  • This is a short Spaas Creek update with some new stuff, only the more interesting parts of the trail, day one of the Spring 2023 DBBB ride. Rides on days 1 & 2 are impromptu rides mostly for trail leaders to pre-run their routes prior to the actual event day ride on Saturday. If you want to see the entire Spaas Creek trail look at some of my earlier videos, I have a couple.. I am on 33’s as is most everyone else, but we did have a couple of stock vehicles as well with a couple including the trial leader on 35s..

    I did the drop off obstacle at 9:00 in a 200 series Landcruiser with no spotter. Made it no problem but I am taking the bypass next time. That spotter was really good.

      I agree, there are many things I'd never do alone. If you don't get nice and square over this one you may roll over. I have always taken the bypass as well. Thanks!

    Nice footage. I'm very inexperienced at offloading and looking to go this weekend (Dec 30/2023) and I have an FJ! So awesome you were following one [I have a 2" lift and 32" tires] in concerned about the rain we've been having up here I Ohio. IDK what they've been getting down there, but it seems likely it could be wetter. And advice you have for a novice looking to try this solo?

      I don't recommend doing it solo, it is a bit harder than easy and in couple of places you could get turned around. Do you have the official #dbbb map? It runs on the Avenza app and and the map can be downloaded from cartotracks.com, even with it you can make a wrong turn. In this video that drop-off is not recommended, This was the first and only time I went on it and it looks like the way to go but it narrows quickly and basically no way to turn around. That FJ in front of me was also very inexperienced but he was on a ride with several experienced riders to get him through.
      We are hosting an easy ride on New Years eve (12/31) (see our Facebook page for details @naturesglorycabin for details) and limiting rigs to 4 additional including us (5), You are welcome to join. It is a very scenic easy ride Fixer-Leeco, New Virginia, Bald Rock loop and back Cave Fork, if we have time we'll do another easy one, Hell Creek. I will be posting the ride sign up tonight 12/27/23.

      @@naturesglorycabin3792 Yeah I was thinking "I think I could probably do that trail... .but I would really prefer to have awesome spotters like that!"
      Unfortunately I'm only going to be in the area on Saturday. I REALLY appreciate the offer I would love to go with a small group. It seems most of the off-roading groups I'm in only host events when I'm busy, And there's usually a ton of people that go.
      Would you recommend one of those other trails you mentioned I might be able to do by myself? (and then if I get stuck you could help me out on Sunday LOL)

      Ok, well we are going to do a pre-run on Saturday and you are welcome to join. We are having lunch at LaCabana and leaving right after lunch. We will be making lots of stops, for pictures & video. This is not an advertised ride.

      @@naturesglorycabin3792 Oh WOW! I really appreciate the consideration. Our timing just isn't going to work out. (we're traveling through the area on our way to Asheville)

      @naturesglorycabin3792 I went through it today! (Jan 2 2024)
      I definitely would have liked some expertise guiding me through, but my FJ ate it up no problem. It was funny that near the end the offset potholes and puddles looked way more scary than they actually were. The rocks at the end were a bit more technical than I was looking for, but it also seemed I was overly anxious about most of the trail due to my inexperience.
      Please let us know when you're doing the next small group! I can shape my plans around yours with advanced notice!

    That looks great! I was planning on checking out the trails tomorrow and I'm in stock Tacoma and I'm solo and was looking for a trail like this. Hate going alone but I don't know anyone who enjoys off-roading so I might as well just go for it. Quick question, do folks go both way on this trail? Any specific sections you might recommend to keep it reasonable, (solo w/o winch)? Looking forward to more of your videos!

      I've been on this trail with stock Tacos and you could go either way. My videos are Slade > F'burg S > N. Pick your way through we've had quite a bit of rain lately. Stop at Callies campground camp store in Slade you may find someone to ride with.
