She's the highest grossing female director of all time, but she's still figuring this all out. From unpaid indie actress to helming the cinema event of the decade, Greta Gerwig's unique path is a story of ambition, creativity, and a lot of growing pains. Passionate for the complexities of womanhood, this video takes an up-close look at Gerwig's filmography, and her human approach to telling stories. A coming of age story never really ends, and Greta Gerwig's humble but ambitious philosophy is a lesson we can all learn from.

A 2024 Dodford Production. - Zábava
The strongest take from this video is how consistent Greta is on her message since the beginning of her directorial career. So much respect for never changing and sticking to a mission that she is trying to express through films. Each film shares similar themes and it's not just "remaking the same movie" over and over. Impressive.
Greta is an intellectual mess - so much wasted potential; why are people really hailing her as a great director? (The highest form of) Cinema is achieved when there's philosophical harmony, something Greta's films seriously lack, especially Barbie. She seems to have the hand (technique) but not the head and the heart; she can't accurately represent themes and ideas causing her films to lack spirit. This is so undeniably true that Barbie became a self-parody satire loved by conservative audiences... there are even people saying Greta is antifeminist (?!) and Werner Herzog thinks "Barbie World" is "sheer hell"; that's how effective her message is, so there's nothing impressive about it.
@@KVLTFILM So, you're saying that her message was not effective because a couple people got the wrong idea? The opinions of a few people, and even someone as prestigious as Werner Herzog, do not diminish the impact and significance of Gerwig's work. Barbie made it's mark, whether you like to think so or not.
@@recreatio Not only, I'm saying it's a symptom of unclarity and inarticulacy. Heh, I don't deny it made its mark, unfortunately.
She sucks
This is an editing masterclass. Your ability to capture the emotion of growing pains is outstanding, Danny. Thank you for inspiring a future generation of storytellers!
Zoomers talking about editing again. But, you didn't write "literally" so that was a pleasent surprise. Heheh.
Wow, thank you!
So I knew her when we were in our teens, we ran in the same crowds in theatre, we performed together in 2 ballet productions where we actually hung out offstage. She was basically actually how she was portrayed here, but a little bit mire hyper and all over the place.
She’s trash
Heard this video got nominated for the oscars
Very smooth ad placement, wasn't sure it was an ad at first
Greta has a way with realism in character. It's wonderful, since with the most movies, it's clearly actors portraying characters. But with her work, you find it more as being real people on screen, watching through their actual lives. It doesn't mean they're any less eccentric or unique, but it give a connection and truth to those characters you can easily relate to. It's especially apparent in Lady Bird, but even in the pink dreamscape of Barbie, you feel the same real human aspects. Not an easy feat to get right every time.
Dodford knocking it out of the park again. Just like Greta has her real characters, the subjects of the documentaries are yours. Already eager for the next one, let's go 👏
her characters feel so human and I love that! thank you for the comment 🫶
your videos are like an art-form, truly impressive
This dropped JUST as I finished binging dodford’s videos, I’m so excited!
Hope you enjoy!
Wow, what a beautiful video about such an inspiring woman. I cried like a baby in the end. Kudos!
This video was so wonderful to watch and see your content grow, genuinely cried watching how you told her story
Man.. Ive only commented on your channel a handful of times but i must say, your videos are so inspiring both in subject matter and the way you write/edit them. Truly beautiful work man 💐
This made me cry. It is simply beautiful. I love how you portray emotion and just how people are, their aspirations and goals and success.
Thank you for your work and incredible documentaries. Your editing skills are something I strive to eventually achieve myself. Seriously I love it!!! Secondly I didn’t know much about Greta other than than she lived in Sacramento which is about two hours away from where I live. After having learned what she went through to achieve her dream she’s become an inspiration for me to pursue my dreams. Thank you again. Think this came at the right moment for me
P.S. The ad placement was seamlessly edited. I’m in awe
Second watch, you're an inspiration dude. These are amazing, keep your head up, the algorithm will figure it out sooner or later xox
I love your videos so much; they're in a very small category of media that gets my full, single-screen focus. They all hit pretty hard, but this one felt more real than usual as someone who (barring tragedy) is gonna have a daughter soon and is completely overwhelmed and terrified but also so excited.
This is the single best video essay I have ever seen, and i do watch too many of them. It has inspired me to pick up a piece of writing I had put on the side fo YEARS, because I was just too scared to do anything with it. My only fear now, is that I am sure I'll never even come close to edit the short movie as good as this video.
OMG this is so beautifully put together
That was next level. Absolutely incredible edit and storytelling.
I really dig this video style that edits many clips together to tell a story. It requires more work and engagement from the viewer which is a good thing and rare nowadays. it's like how blockbuster movies nowadays don't have confidence in their audience to get it, but movies like No Country for Old Men are considered classics and they age very well. At the same time, I do miss the old video style with you in it. This video style feels almost a little impersonal, and narration would help bring a stronger connection with the viewer. Also, I think a narration helps with setting the tone and mood better. Arguably the videos that "put you on the map" were the Nuardwar, Glover, and Spielberg videos. And I think the reason those hit big was because of not only your editing but perhaps more so your narration.
Obviously, don't change your style just to appeal to more people. But I think it might be cool to sprinkle in a video here and there that has narration, just to keep it diverse.
We appreciate how well you've articulated your insights. You'll always have our support.
Oh Dodford will you ever make a video that doesn't make me cry?? you're a fantastic editor and so emotional with your cuts and clips, keep up the phenomenal work!!
this is exceptionally put together wow
Your editing is on point 👌🏿 subscribed
I always give these videos my full attention because they're crafted so perfectly that I don't want to miss a moment.
Damn man, the quality on your videos is wiild.🤯 another banger for sure.
That was beautiful and absolutely amazing, I love Greta and I think you depicted her journey very well with only the editing💕
waW this was incredible, you are so talented! Thank you, what a joy to watch🙏many Blessings to you
By the end I was getting emotional! Amazing.
this was so phenomenally put together thank you
These videos are changing youtube, such a great story that you have put together. Each video you post is better than the last.
Oh man... What a crisp video ❤
These videos are reinforcing my opinion that editing is the most powerful skill in the creative arts. In music, writing, and -duh- videos it's all about how you divide things up and put them together again. Thank you.
Amazing edit! I feel like you really captured what Greta is about. I will definetly come back to this video
This is really great, man. I'm sorry it's not finding as much success as your other recent work, it deserves to. Hope it takes off.
I started crying omg this is such a good video
Amazing project, kudos 🎉
A big round of applause to Script and Edit: Daniel McMahon, Research: Mia Zimonjic, Additional Research: Adam Bright,

Great Job Man. You make this video with Great Efforts From Thumnail to Content. I just Love this
thank you for making this
Greta and Dodford, what a wonderful combination
I spend hours, days editing a tiny number of clips into a 6 minute video and it still looks dreadful. Dodford you is a boss! Hats off to your sir, have a great weekend. Another banger
Beautifully edited ❤ And did I hear Son Lux at the end?
Barbie's marketing budget was more than the films budget. Cultural moment or have we all been manipulated by a massive advertising campaign?
There's no A roll on this video
That's when you know dodford is good
Crazy inspiration
Every video from this channel feels like an academy winning documentary.
you really ran with that stock footage of the flower and lady bug, but i still loved the video
This is, as usual, a masterpiece.
CZcams is lucky to have you here, rather than produced on Netflix.
is a good day when Dodford upload i love you dude!
incredible edit. I'm coming back to this video often because I really admire Greta.
Award-worthy video! Well done

do you use screenlines to hide the quality of some of these clips? just wondering
ive been waiting for this to come out like a movie premiere
this video was incredibly good, i love it, I even tore up a few times, thank you for making this, after all the hate Barbie and Greta has recieved I hope more people watch this and chenge their minds, also , now I want to watch the Greta's cinematografy.
Another incredible project! I know it takes some time for all your videos to get picked up and do well but don't stop! You obviously put a ton of work into these videos and it will eventually pay off. Your editing style combined your storytelling abilities are unmatched, keep up the great work!
Dodford you are amazing man, keep doing what you are doing❤️
In your editing course, do we actually learn how to edit like you or just the basics
You are improving in every video! Really great work!

Great editing, that’s good work!
The ad spot seemed really awkward in the middle of the video
It's the wait for the next one that kills me. Love what you do, Dodford. If you need a video editor's help, I'll be honored to collaborate at any point!
Amazing video like always Dodford! You deserve millions of views and all the success
What an honour it is to be able to feel in love, inspired, passionate, excited and a hint of sadness- for a whole 22 minutes. Honestly I still feel it. This feeling continues beyond the length of this video.
Words are useless for how I feel. I just feel, in love, watching this. I unconditionally love what I just experienced.
Thank you for making the videos the way you do. You aren't making them "logically for retention", you're making them with heart, passion & curiosity.
I rarely get chills with CZcams videos, but I did at 20:00 especially seeing you & Jasmine in there. Such a beautiful emotion to experience and feel.
thank you Matt 🥰
wow! truly an amazing video! thank you so much! love Greta and this video
This video is SO good. So inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
Where do u get all those videos?
Thank you for making this I feel so inspired! I've always been inspired by Gretta Gerwig, but I feel reignited. Today my lease for my first apartment in LA started and currently I'm in Michigan...I've still yet driver my ass across the country because I have to work until the 9th and pack up my entire childhood room. It's people like Greta Gerwig that make my dreams feel possible, it's people like her I inspire to be.
amazing edit! did her justice
Yesssss - you're so good. Love these so much.
These just keep getting better and better
This is SO well made. Thank you!
Greta is gonna become one of those classic directors whose movies will be studied in film schools.. her directing style is so unique and realistic and refreshing..
The hype for this video has been crazy
💯 It’s Dodford thoooo
This was absolutely wonderful and you really captured Greta’s journey so beautifully and she’s one of my favorite directors I can’t wait to see what else she makes
dude it’s astonishing the work behind your videos but I gotta be honest, I haven’t loved the last ones bc they’re so fast paced it’s hard to keep your focus on with so many things happening. I like it more with voice over so that you’re guiding us through the correct direction and the flow of the story, again, it’s great how you manage to tell the story solely by quotes and stuff but it gets tiring quickly. You’re trying to fit so many things in the video there’s barely any time for the story to breathe. I hope you find my comment well, you definitely have the resources to create great stories here on CZcams but you’ve leaned more into the fast paced style of TikTok, it’s almost like you’re desperately trying to not lose attention and although that might work for other content creators it’s just frustrating with documentaries
Nice to see Dodford back in action
reporting for duty 🫡
@@DodfordYT Aye Aye Captain
Incredible video, this channel never fails to deliver
YOU CAN'T IMAGINE HOW HAPPY I AM RIGHT NOW. WHAT A FREAKING MASTERPIECE...
I cried
Just beautiful Sir.
Another classic Dodford. What shocks me the most is the views. You’re a talent and you should get far more than you get today. Do you think you’re going to follow the same trend as others and upload to X? I did with my last podcast and tbh it’s did well enough that I’ll do it again. Worth a thought. Also, Shia LaBeouf would be an amazing one for you guys to do. That guys an enigma. Congrats on another wonderful portrayal 🔥🎥🫶
Apologizing ahead of time because this will be a long post. I appreciate how you showcase how the films they have made or star in are a part of who they are and it's not simply just a job they do. It allows me to give them further appreciation and respect for their craft and understanding of the choices they made. Just a beautiful job in breaking it down simply and delicately that an artist is much more than what we see but also someone we can relate to.
Keep up the great work.
