  • Description:
    Mycobacterium Tuberculosis is one of the most successful pathogens infecting over 1.7 billion people but only a fraction of these develop TB. The reason for this is your Immune system. In this video, we go through immunology basics, the immune response against TB, granuloma formation and consequences of reactivation.

    Thank you! I couldn't find a nice in-between information anywhere which didn't either skip past most immunological steps or go into waaaaaay too much detail (which freaked me out).

      So to be honest most of the information in the video comes from immunology and pathology textbooks….. i don’t really have actually textbook recommendations but I would recommend using the textbook that is recommended for whatever you’re studying and supplementing it with other resources (articles, videos, lecture slides, notes, etc).… it’s sucks but generally you can’t find all the information in one textbook… for example, I know people that remove the spine from a textbook, punch hole all the pages and bind them using a ring binder so that they can add information from other sources….. hope this was helpful … wish you all the best …

    Do B cells play any role with immunity against TB?

    • @thecaffeinatedmedic7762
      @thecaffeinatedmedic7762  Před 3 lety +1

      That's a really good question..... B cells don't play much of a role because MTB is predominantly an intracellular organism and hence you mount a cellular response rather than a humoral response...... However, b cell do play some role... MTB does have an extracellur part in its life cycle so antibodies would be useful... Secondly b cells help modify the t cell response because they do interact with t helper cell...

      @@thecaffeinatedmedic7762 Actually I'm doing a project on immune resposne against MTB and thanks to you I got to understand the processes. But if you could give me a clearer idea of what role do B cells and CD8+ T cells play, it would be much appreciated. I found out that in cytotoxic T cells there's an insufficient up regulation of perforin and granulysin expression but I'm not sure if they play some major role
