    I really liked the relationship dynamic between Worf and Ezri, how it went from him wanting absolutely nothing to do with her to him and her developing a strong familial brother sister relationship. Almost have to feel sorry for anyone that breaks her heart and have Worf find out about it.

    When Ezri asked Worf "How many times he had to cover up the crimes of Klingon leaders because he was told it was for the good of the empire?" Really hit hard for Worf, not just he got exiled for siding against the empire during the Cardassian invasion, but he was told to accept discomendation and labeled a traitor and label his father a traitor to protect Duras and by extension the empire.

    • @fingerboxes
      @fingerboxes Před 3 lety +8

      Worf has extremely complicated views about love and sex. He is, by all appearances, of average libido for a Klingon, but because he didn't grow up among other Klingons and went through puberty living among humans, he only knows about Klingon (and by extension his own) sexuality from the ideals that he was taught. He was taught that Klingons view mating as sacred, that its function is to produce children, and that he must marry his mate.
      However, anyone who has grown up in an extremely religious house will have learned the same lessons but will also know from experience that basically no one does that. My parents actively taught the whole "missionary position for the sole purpose of procreation" line, but my mom had numerous male and female sexual partners both before and during her marriage to my dad and my dad probably had at least one male partner. If Worf had had the opportunity to grow up among Klingons he would probably have learned that the Klingon relationship ideals are just that--ideals. Just because it's what they teach and what they believe on paper, that's not how people behave.
      But since he didn't grow up among Klingons, he grew up among squishy and not interested humans, he didn't get the chance to internalize those messages. So now he thinks that any time he wants to mate it must mean he's ready to marry and so is his partner. He struggles to decouple the idea of lust from the idea of love. He had this problem with Alexander's mother K'Ehleyr, he had this problem with Deanna Troi, he had this problem with Jadzia, and he had this problem with Ezri. However, even though it's difficult for him to do, he does eventually accept that other people don't see mating in the same way that he does. As he acknowledges to Ezri in the Cardassian prison, to Jadzia mating could mean many things--not just what it meant to him. Jadzia makes a similar point to him on Risa, telling him that he doesn't understand Klingon mating as well as she does because the Dax symbiont has had more Klingon sexual partners than Worf.
      In my opinion, Worf really does love Ezri but doesn't understand or know how to process love. At the end of the day despite his jealousy and confusion he wants what's best for her. It's unfortunate that his early life didn't set him up to understand his sexuality in a more nuanced way.

The Klingon Empire should have fallen long before the Dominion war... but the war would break the empire, considering their casualties and losses. The next civil war WILL end the empire. Now, the average Klingon MUST decide how to embrace or refuse this change... the fact remains, the empire is Doomed.

With a smart, patriotic and courageous leader at the helm the Empire things will improve drastically with reforms and forward thinking. Having Worf by his side as ambassador will also make this easier. The war has also taken the paper alliance with the Feds and forged it into tempered steel. And with the losses it will also spark growth and opportunity Empire wide for if a forest is to thrive a fire is needed to clear out the deadwood. Can Worf be Federation ambassador to the Klingons? Not only is he a Klingon, but he is of the House of Martok. Is his first loyalty to the Federation or to his House, not to speak of his personal loyalty to Martok.

    Ezri makes an excellent point, both Gowron and K'mpec were willing to let Worf's family take the fall for something they knew wasn't their fault, the Duras family was corrupt and power hungry but they weren't nearly as powerful as the High Council gave them credit for, they murdered K'mpec and tried to usurp Gowron but ultimately the only one who paid for their traitorous ways was Toral!

    In the Next Gen series, we learned a lot about the imperial powers that surround the Federation, the Klingons, the Romulans, and the Cardassians. The positive aspects of their cultures were strongly emphasized. The negative ones were only presented in terms of their negative effect on the imperial peoples themselves, as here where Dax talks to Worf about the corruption at the highest levels of Klingon government. Never, ever, ever was so much as a word said about the subject peoples suffering under these brutal tyrants heals, with the sole exception of the Bajorans.
