  • My work horse has a problem of coolant in the oil so i thought i would make a vid of how to change the head gaskets and hopefully fix the problem it will be a 2 part series the motor is just a stock 3.8L V6

    just taking my heads off now and yep, water gushed out of back left head bolt hole. Must be normal. my gasket has no water issue. Thanks for the video. great help. Cheers.

    They very rarely do head gaskets it's normally the lower intake plenium gasket that causes coolant and oil to mix

      @Benny Hutch was it getting warm with the leak?mine is but it still recons its got good compression and is only slightly making a milkshake

    The "little do-flakky" is the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Valve. When it dies it makes the engine surge, usually makes u think its the fuel filter when it's not. Not that I've ever had that happen....

    As soon as ya see a blocked up water jacket in the commodores safe to say its inlet manifold.. that pipe is your heater outlet pipe .. top effort.. be sure to have a set of fuel line removal tools next time lol

    make sure that pipe in the belt tensioner seals properly too, I had to replace the tensioner on my VS!, what a pain in the Arse, lol

    Ok cheers, its what i was thinkin but i had drained all the coolant out of the motor and was confused why there would be coolant coming out of the head

    oh & @ 12:17, that's the electronic EGR Valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) which feeds exhaust gases back into the intake to make the car "Emit Less"

    The car wizard guy (you may have seen him) says it's often an intake manifold gasket. I have no idea how an intake manifold gasket has coolant cores in it but whatever....

    9:56 lol frickin GMH, If you have no water in engine oil, or smoke out of exhaust, & car runs ok. before you do any big maintenance job, Check your Radiator oil cooler, the rubber seals, can deteriorate and cause brown sludge in coolant. my vx commodore had that problem.

    If its only leaking a bit and still runs try nulon head gasket seal;its kept my car going for 8 years ;I have put maybe four bottles in over that time and run 70000k's;I wouldn't drive it hard tho

    most of the bolts on the car arent metric like the intakes there 3/8 so be carefull next time
