      I realize that this kinda content will not resonate with everyone and that is ok. Really doing my best to make it clear that my video's are based on research and not hands on experience. Honestly just can't afford these at the moment. Trusting I'll get there but not there yet. I do love research and comparing devices though and I also think that having a summary of the findings of some of the top hands on reviews in one place could be useful to some viewers. Hope the above makes sense.

    After nerding out for several days on content showcasing both devices I went with the 556. Wow do I freaking love this thing. The insane price to performance ratio, ultra comfortable form and ergonomics, larger overall but still very compact size, and much bigger and better OLED 1080p screen were the deciding factors for me. And I'm having zero issues running PS2 games, they look and play awesome.

      Awesome, feedback like this makes me lean more towards the 556 when it comes to deciding between these devices. The only thing that drew me to the RP4 Pro is the better performance but after researching it a bit it seems to be a minimal difference and the fact that the 556 is cheaper just makes it a more compelling choice. Thanks for sharing.

      @@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh Anbernic can easily offer a firmware update or two to get even more performance out of the 556. But there's nothing Retroid can do to increase the screen size and resolution of that inferior screen. Not only that, but the 556 comes right out of the box as the most comfortable handheld you could ever ask for. You have to spend even more on left and right grip extensions to make the Retroid more comfortable. For me with the Retroid you're paying more while making too many sacrifices and compromises just to have a slightly more compact device with better thumb sticks and only mildly to moderately better processing power than the 556.

    • @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh
      @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh  Před měsícem +1

      That's really well said and i have to admit that i did not consider firmware updates. Those could eek out some more performance. I gues the choice will largely come down to how badly you want a PS2 gaming capable device that is pocketable at the end of the day. That will largely be infuenced by when you want to play your retro games. If you want it to play on the go i could still see an argument for the RP4 Pro. What;s your experience like with the size of the RG556, do you think it would comfortably fit in a small day backpack?

    • @davidsapir9638
      @davidsapir9638 Před měsícem

      I picked up the 556 as an upgrade to my beloved but dated 5 year old GPDXD+. Still looks and plays great after going everywhere with me for all that time, and as far as compactibility it's unbeatable. Neither one of these devices can touch it in that one regard. That said, both the Retroid and 556 are still much more compact than not. If compactness is a major must have feature the Retroid is more dimensionally compact for sure. But not by much. For me I was more than willing to sacrifice a little compactibility for the 556's phenomenal price, ultra comfortable ergos and much better OLED screen. I honestly think the 556 is the most perfectly sized handheld I've ever played. Not too big, not too small, but just right with a perfect screen size. The Retroid's 4.7" screen size is even smaller than my GPD's 5" screen and its screen resolution is the same. That's not the screen I want to be playing PS2 games on. But on the 556's 5.5" screen they look so good. And it's very slender too. I have a black hard case on it's way that was only $10 on Amazon, and it's dimensions aren't going to take up much space in my EDC satchel at all. Like the Retroid the GPD XD also has a rudimentary rectangular shape, and I can tell you the 556 isn't just a little more comfortable to hold and play, it's waaay more comfortable. And wow is it an incredible rush to be playing PS2 again after so many years on such an incredibly affordable and awesome compact hand held like the 556. Seriously I can't love this thing enough. Last night I ordered an SD card for the 556 from Aliexpress that's nothing but PS2 games, 480 of them. I figured if I only love 10% of them the price was still worth it. @@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh

      That sounds awesome. Figured it would not be too much of hassle to carry around in a small backpack so its good to have that confirmed. I can imagine that playing PS2 games is a rush. I never owned a playstation when i was younger. Went Straight from SNES to PC. So ihave really enjpoyed discovering and playing all the old games since i have started playing around with emulation on my PC again, especially the PS2 ones. Still want to track down Chrono Trigger and Play it. BNot eve sure what console it was on but i have heard it mentioned so many times in the retro community i feel like i have to try it.Thanks for the detailed feedback, you are busy making a RG556 convert of me.

    The RG556 is in stock at Anbernic because the demand is just not their for their high end handhelds. The RG28XX on the other hand will probably be a big seller for Anbernic.

    • @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh
      @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh  Před měsícem

      I would say that is a fairly accurate assement. Not Shure why though the 556 is cheaper and Eve though it is not very pocketable it sounds like and awesome handheld. I have to say I just found out this week the Odin 1 is available for $199. That would be a muck better handheld to get in terms of performance for roughly the same price as these. It's a different beast for sure but should give you better gameplay with the Snapdragon processor it has.

      @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh  Před měsícem

      The 405M is quite impressive especially for its size, its processor is less powerfull than the RG556 but it can do quite a bit with it from what i hear. I also love the look of the metal shell and it looks super pocketable. The 556 would be able to play more demanding games though with a price difference of about $20 i would rather opt for it so you can get the better screen and processor. But if you love Anbernic and you want something super pocketable the 405M would be a good choice. Have you seen my video on on it here? czcams.com/video/U7LD717smN0/video.html

      Hi There, it is awesome when you discover these. A whole new world opened up for me. i do not own any of the handhelds i reviewed as yet, at this stage i am doing summary overviews of some of the top hands on reviews out there. From my research though i could recommend the Trimui Smart Pro to fit your description of what you want to play. It plays Most PSP and PSvita games, especially with the new firmware. Sells for between $60-$80 depending on where you buy and it has a comparable shape to the Vita. it will probably still struggle with the top end PSP games but from the reviews i checked it would probably be able to play about 70-80% of them. If your willing to spend a bit more one of the units in this video will do PSP and PS Vita for sure. Hope this helps. You can check out my overview on the Trimui Smart Pro here: czcams.com/video/8ZnrG-GA83c/video.html and Here: czcams.com/video/-Qt2cWghIiQ/video.html. The best thing for this would be a used PS vita. Vita emulation is so new that it’s not really a viable option on these.
      PS vita is backward compatible with PSP and runs them and PS1 games natively on the hardware.

      @@justjoshininjapan700 Thanks for the feedback. It raises a point that i did not consider. You are correct in that PS vita emulation is pretty new so emulating it will be hit and miss. Personally though i am just not crazy about purchasing second hand harware that probably doesn't have any warranty on it, I just never have been, but i have to admit most of the time there is no issue with devices bought. I checked E-bay though and the average for a 2nd hand PS Vita is abour $150 which makes it almost as much as the units in this Video. I gues it will come down to how badly you want to play the entire PS vita catalog. Appreciate you raising that though it is definitely something to consider if you want a retro handheld that can handle PSP and PS Vita well.
