The Trimui Smart Pro can be found for under $100 and it is quite possibly one of the BEST retro handheld emulators in this price range. Beautiful screen, good firmware out of the box, and the best part is you don't need to do anything to it for a great experience.

Full disclosure, I’m seeing this device can be found much cheaper on websites like AliExpress. I was sent my unit by the company selling this on Amazon so my only option was to provide the Amazon link but by all means if you can find it cheaper, go for it friends. If you still want to support the channel you can by liking, commenting, and subscribing, sharing this video, and feel free to check out any of the other links in the description. Thanks friends
A few notes on this from someone that owns 2 of these, if I may.
The sd cards with games typically are added in by resalers/distributors. The reason I say this is: 1) especially early on these came without one, and 2) watching lots of reviews of it I see differing rom sets and experiences.
The CPU likes to run at a lower clock speed, so typically it's good to set the function (FN) switch to boost it. This allows you to have a lower, more power efficient, mode for playing easier games, but can easily bump it up for more demanding games. I think someone was talking about being able to overclock it even. It does, of course, tend to get very warm in high performance mode.
I don't know why drastic didn't swap for you, stock firmware (I'm on 1.04) will when you press L1 or L2 (sorry, don't remember exactly which right now). I typically set mine to single screen when I can and only swap when I have to (I know, I'm a heathen).
The stock firmware keeps getting better and better, including adding Bluetooth functionality. TBH it feels like they had awesome hardware they wanted to get out to the world, but the software wasn't ready at the time. Pointers for updating firmware: 1) get the firmware from the Trimui Github, not their website, and 2) you can have the SD card formatted exfat, but when you update the firmware make sure to have a SD card formatted FAT32! For some reason it matters when updating only. I hope that saves someone from the frustration I had. Also there is an active and growing community behind this device that are working on things like TomatoOS that adds a layer of configurations on top of the stock firmware, and individual enhancements like Portmaster.
Look, it's not a perfect device, but there is no such thing (out of the box at least?), but it is a great device that just keeps getting better and better.
Yes and the best of all is what Tomato Os is included with the official updates. Vulkan support is the best thing that happened to this console.
I love that you left that accidental drop of the consoles 😆
Great stuff as always Portly!
Hahaha thanks bud
Looks good! Thanks!!
I love my Trimui Smart Pro. Feels great in the hand and screen looks beautiful. So far GBA is my most played system on it and I always go back and grab it over my switch or any other handheld lately.
How are psp games?
@@NoThanksnothanks haven’t done much PSP but gotta say Spiderman 3 didn’t run too well. Maybe with some frame skips or some settings could work better
@@lerrymaine I’ve watched a lot of vids on this thing, it seems like everyone has a different answer. I got one coming to me. Some say it runs great no problems. But I’m thinking there is some compensation in some form.
@@NoThanksnothanks definitely. MegaMan Power Up on the other hand runs perfectly fine. Looks beautiful too
I have the rg556, but trimui smart pro is the console that we bring when we go out, its my sons favourite, probably because of the size.
Plus it's only $60 with games and free shipping on allie express. Beautiful screen too!!!
I love how it handles sega Saturn and dresmcast. Psp is very good now too and dev support is alive, very good chipset
Good quality review 👍 wish I got one before it rose in price.
good review, I like the idea of out of the box working. sucks that it has all the bloat, but I think if someone were to remove the bloat and just upload their own roms, this system would be good for that.
Suggestion. Make a video on how to clear the old stuff out and add better custom ones?
I bought it from AliExpress for around $50. One week later, it fell from my pocket and, despite a light fall, both the right and left buttons stopped working... Know it's pretty fragile
I love this amazing console. I am not an expert, but it is so easy to add your favorites games. I replaced a lot of the heavy psp roms for the games I truly like (mostly jrpgs). GBA games look spectacular. And PS1 games too. I think this Trimui Smart Pro is a little miracle.
I find the clicky dpad actually very good for Street Fighter 2 hadokens and shoryukens similar to the Retroid Pocket 3 Plus Vita style dpad.
Great review!
Would this work well for remote stream gaming using moonlight? The form factor seems like a good match.
I haven’t tested it but after I released this I saw there is a firmware update that ads moonlight BUT I haven’t tested it myself
flashed it to 104. my buttons are good, mine came with no defunct. Just added a glass screen protector and a wrist lanyard. Added a bunch of good games like Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gears, Legacy of kain, Grandia etc etc. Cant wait for 1.0.5
You forgot to mention you can set the function button for cpu performance mode. It can make many psp/dc games perform a little better at a slight cost of power. I kept it on all the time.
I prefer the original hardware for the system for PSP stuff
Agreed. I have a psp, psp go and vita, all modded and they are dedicated for psp/ps1 and vita games. Also have a ds lite, dsi xl and 3ds xl for ds/3ds games. I use the type of handheld reviewed here for everything up to ps1 on the go. Just my preference, but psp/vita and ds/3ds games are just not easily emulated and require some console specific inputs/form factor to get the most from them.
Awesome video; On a side note, has anyone ever told you resemble Jack Black.
Several people throughout my adult life, yes haha
I wouldn't put NDS in the video description if it is not going to run that good. Otherwise everything was a very good video and the sleep function I think is the most solid selling point
Superb device. I'm using it for a while and it rocks!
Great review. I think the form factor is cool, but since it’s less pocketable, I prefer the 35xx H for most retro gaming on the go and an Odin2/retroid p4 pro for this form factor with added gamecube/ps2/wii emulation.
Anyway, never thought I’d own so many portable gaming consoles. 😅
#somanygreatoptions
I hope the community comes out with a custom OS that will add a video player app into it. Watching anime on this our be Amazing
Actually I looked at the Trimui website just after releasing this video and there is a firmware update that adds a video player lol
The analog movement for Mario64 is more of an issue of N64 emulation not being able to replicate the n64 analog stick movement, nothing to do with the quality of sticks. I remember looking into this when playing DK64 on the wii u. It's cause emulation need something to convert digital movement into analog or something along those lines.
Interesting! Thanks for the tip, friend
I like it!
Are there Sony 1 games? Is there a Sony 1 "Goal Storm" game? I would be glad if you answer!..
Does have donkey Kong 64 ? Or Pokémon stadium
For the older Pokemon games like Red, Blue does anyone know if you can adjust the settings to give it colors as if you were playing these games on the Gameboy color?
whats better this one of the anbernick RG35XX PLUS? i got the anbernick for the price but never heard about this console. is It good or better?
It depends on what you want out of these systems. The RG35XX Plus is great and very cable but the game boy style shape can get uncomfortable more quickly and it doesn’t have any thumbsticks even though it can play N64 and Dreamcast. But it is still a very solid device
@@Portly yeah its notw worth it, I like my PLus , very useful and I like it i play mostly gba games
$99 on amazon? This device cost and is from aliexpress for $50
If it exceeds 50 dollars. Here in Brazil we pay 1 for ourselves and 1 for the government. Absurd fees (92%)
Yea it goes below that on big sales, goes a bit over 50 with taxes
@@wulf2863 best price ever seen was $44, there a google sheet in my bio
That’s why it’s always best to shop around…
Best price was $44 during the sales (bio)
I am not picking it up for 2 reasons.
1. It sounds like you are a lot less positive/excited about this one, compared to the something something H. Also the nintendo ds issues is a big one for me.
2. I already bought the something something H, after watching your video about that one, and the one which looks like the included nintendo switch controller. (Possibly with your link? Not sure, had to change regions as I am from the EU. So the price increased to almost 120 euro, and not sure if affiliate link worked with that transfer).
Anyhow, excited to try out the H and see how that functions.
Totally fair! I do really like the Smart Pro and will likely use it quite a bit, but I do admit the H is probably what I would choose simply for the small size and better DS performance.
Your loss ...its only $60 on allie express...with games!! And free shipping...its a steal at that price..the build quality is great!! Which I was surprised
I got this only cuz the H is way too small if you have big hands, I returned the H and bought this one
It’s alright…
Looks like a Vita kinda with the sticks
35xx h stock os much better than any current customs cfw’s available right now
Really?
Amiga emulator work on it?
NDS sometime they game cannot play😢😢..version 1.0.4..model number TG5040😢
You would want them to put a z1 extreme chip in the trimui , then the price will be $900 usd
What lol
can someone tell me if this can run a few ps2 games? :( im so ready to buy thissss
To my knowledge it wouldn’t be possible. PS2 emulation on handhelds I believe is currently limited to Android handhelds which are a bit more pricey
yo brooo thank you🫶🏻🫶🏻 such a perfect console imo it does great anyway for its specs and price 👍🏻
No I don’t.
Is that persona lol
And what's the problem with putting custom Firmware on any device? Takes literally few minutes. Pointless argument
Maybe for you personally, but a lot of my viewers don’t have a computer and want something they can just use out of the box. So the argument is not pointless for those people…
