How is that Chinese man's father! He is a legend. Every Father should be like him.

It’s sad to say that sometimes family members are the ones who tear families apart.

Good on these people for living THEIR lives, not the lives others imagine should be theirs.
I'm impressed with Mr Zhang's attitude, especially in the context of Chinese culture, he's absolutely right. Well done too, Mrs Zhang for evolving in a positive way!

How wonderful that a Chinese father could accept his son’s homosexuality so immediately, but I suppose being a commercial pilot, he would have been more exposed to different cultures and ideas that exist outside China than the mother.

I came out to my mother in 1979 and her one concern was that she "didn't do anything wrong" by me being gay. I told her that if there wasn't anything "wrong" with me. It's all very complicated and I think I was lucky that I had such an accepting mother. Very compelling stories from the group.

Loved hearing everyones story. Having been raised in the same religion as Sacha and Sherri Im aware of the work and support they now provide to people leaving the JWs and other high control groups. Ive never met them in person but have been aware of them for several years and Im in awe of their natural compassion and kindness to people. Thankyou for having them on your program.

Preventing conflict in my experience with people of extreme oppositional views has always been to veer as far away from it as possible .. to avoid it whenever it arises. That doesn't mean to conform to or accept how the other party believes, but to just not bring it up or engage in an argument about it.

Every person is an individual and as parents we should respect their view and not ostracized them for their way of life or thinking providing they are not harming others . I am 68 years old and I don't need to believe in God to be a good person. It may sound unbelievable but many atheists who are philanthropists around the world specially in England, have left their heritage to reputable charities national or international.

At almost 38 years old I still haven’t come out to my father because I don’t want to loose him. He is not an idiot so I would be surprised if he didn’t know but I grew up being told that he would disown me or my sister if either one of us “became” gay. My Mom and her whole family knows and have been very accepting since I came out at 14. At this point I’m embarrassed to still be partially in the closet but I love my father with all my heart and his approval has always meant everything to me so loosing him is not an option so I will probably never come out to him, it does make me sad that he really has no idea who I even am as an adult because I have to hide so much. It also doesn’t help that my sister agrees that I should never tell him and has actually lied to him before when he asked her about my sexuality.

My heart breaks for your pain, I know people who have been “disowned”, I can’t imagine not loving my child for being gay, and just letting you love who you love.

I think your dad knows and is in denial. He doesn't want to deal with it. If he doesn't acknowledge the truth, it's not the truth.

You can love someone without approving their lifestyle. By failing to acknowledge your own accepted morals is far more dangerous to your own soul.

I couldn’t understand what that older woman with a daughter she was estranged from was saying? Laws rights and beliefs? Was she trans or was her daughter?

    • @ThisbeandPyramus
      @ThisbeandPyramus Před rokem +10

Her daughter was MTF trans or was with a FTM trans man.
Her daughter refused to allow for any difference in opinion from her mother insofar as the current dogma of broader trans community.
Her mother couldn't accept being completely subservient to that dogma and insisted on the right to resolve conflict through discussion and compromise. Daughter would accept nothing but absolute obedience.
Obviously, they had differences of opinion regarding distinctions between sex and gender and how science breaks down on this at the moment (science isn't "permanent" - it grows as it learns). Laws are constructs of society as the society deems fit and (my guess) is that Isla (the mother) wouldn't accept her daughter's views of current law as gospel.
Isla = a genius. That daughter is sure missing out!
