- I #carved a whale out of #epoxy and #wood. I used various woodworking tools to powercarve this whale out of 11.5 gallons of epoxy resin. This is one of my most unique sculptures to date and one that features a tremendous amount of woodworking and epoxy resin working. Follow along to watch this whale come to life!

What about a giraffe with cool patterns? Btw, it looks like a city inside the whale, next lvl awesomeness.

A flying saucer, a pyramid, a virus, one inside of the other. No joke. Super essoteric, but cool.
If I commissioned a project like this, with this much time and effort, and the artist STILL made time to make me something super special, that thing being sourced from leftovers from the actual project...that’s so meaningful man. That would mean a lot to me and I hope your clients have appreciated as much as they should.

I love it and using the leftovers for something wonderful too is a great idea.

Yes! I love sanding, actually. This is one gorgeous whale. Next, I'd like to see you carve a foal.
Like others have said, I have watched hundreds of epoxy and wood projects (lockdown pastime!) and this is by far the most beautiful, original and difficult project I have seen. If there was a master's degree in epoxy you would be the masters' master! Well done!
I love this! I really love how the end piece looked like a city skyline inside and made me think how the built environment has impacted on the natural environment.
I love that style it's definitely the first time I ever seen anything like it, and the coasters are awesome too

Thank you so much David! Been watching your channel for years now and I am a big fan!
the word "amazing" is not enough to describe how gorgeous is this sculpture ... i'm shocked !
A perfect balance of wood and resin. I especially love the pieces of wood that are "floating". You were wise to include "exotic" wood - it adds addition spectrum of colors and tones. Congratulations on a job well done.+++++
Thanks a lot, Blake - I was just planning on watching a few minutes while I finished my coffee and ended up watching the whole video. Now my schedule is all thrown off. This came out amazing.
I love all the safety precautions you take working on the project. The explanations were great as well
I am amazed with your sculpting capabilities. I once tried to carve a hand showing "thumbs up". Its on my channel. I was carving it for a long time and I couldn't believe how hard is to carve out "the right things" to make it look lifelike. I know exactly how a hand should look like, but seeing it in a piece of wood is a whole another thing. Then grabbing a dremel and start shaving off everything that is not a hand is a pure witchcraft! But it turned out quite nice, taking into the account my abilities.
thats awesome. Hands are actually really difficult to carve because they are always bent in different directions and angles with lots of folds and creases.
As a person who loves the ocean and the life that lives in it, I gotta say this is BEAUTIFUL! I love it!
The depth to that piece is mesmerising, truly beautiful

100/100 for design, skill and sheer effort! The wood composition in conjunction with the sculpting work is simply genius, and you're obviously a grandmaster with all types of tools. Beautiful work! I love the use of penetrating epoxy to suppress bubbles long before the bulk pour!
Another way to address your epoxy wastage challenge would be to build your normal mold, and carve or build up displacement blocks to fill in the bulk of the wastage areas. Foam or wood can be used, just make sure they're well secured. The advantage to this is that you don't have to worry about the mold failing catastrophically and spilling all your epoxy out. Both methods are used in various types of casting. What you did is similar to a custom mold tool for laying up composites. Using plugs to fill voids is used in metal sand castings when a void needs to be cast in the middle of a part.
Auto Detailing, Woodsculpting, Epoxy, all sanding is fun sanding. It’s the best part
First off, incredible work as always.
Second, I think I might be alone in this but I find sanding to be very therapeutic.
I use a full face PAPR mask, some good noise cancelling headphones with an audiobook and just let myself get lost in the work.
Watching a piece slowly transform from a rough carve to polished finish is probably my favorite part of the process.
You’re not alone on sanding being therapeutic, one of the projects I was working on just wasn’t going how I wanted it so I just decided to sand the parts that were done and it improved my mood

Incredible. It looks like an art museum piece. Just beautiful.
One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
You are truly an artist!! Remarkable piece!!!
Very inspiring. My best friend "the whale" had conniptions, seeing the making of a whale sculpture that ended up with curved wooden "ribs". Too close to memories of old wooden whaling boats and all that, but I told him it was a symbol of the whales overcoming the old technology, and I think he's fine now.
Given the price of Epoxy, I might have gone for some sort of central wooden core, with the wood radiating out at different lengths, guided by a bent wire armature, and then building a compound curve female mould out of rings of plaster or cheap poly resin , painted with release coatings.
Looks like I will need to do my own video and put my ideas where my mouth is :-)
Thats awesome. I think you need to do a video. I will definitely watch that!
