THESE TWO HAD MORE SOUL THAN MOST SOUL SINGERS TODAY.
most?
Hall and Oats were heavily influenced by the artists of MoTown.
I don’t think there even are soul singers these days😂
The 70s were amazing, musically!
Blue-eyed soul. I think the term was coined for the Righteous Brothers or Frank Sinatra but it applies to these dudes too.
Next recommended Hall and Oates song: “Sara Smile”
George Michael definitely has the blue eyed soul in his music too! Love Hall & Oates too! You know good music for sure :)
I always thought that phrase was for Darryl Hall.
Hall and Oates - Sara Smile, Out of Touch and Dreamtime!
She's Gone is my favorite H&O song. It has a Motown sound to it.
except they're Philly boys............
@@wendyw4487 right you are.
South Philly Soul , not Motown
Sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know a trick to log back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid lost my password. I would love any assistance you can offer me.
@Melvin Crosby Instablaster =)
I love John Oates voice, and Charlie DeChant on sax is just killer.
Right? Charlie Dechant is a living legend!
@@anitamariaa yes he is!
"I can't go for that" [no can do] is a banger too.
Their 80s stuff is more pop for sure but they never really lost that R&B groove, something like "I Can't Go For That" just KILLS me every time. And then you have your "Private Eyes" and whatnot that is just pop songwriting perfection. They were phenomenal writers, musicians, and good God those vocals. I mean. They were just fantastic, you know? I still listen to them ALL THE TIME.
Was lucky enough to see them perform as the warm-up act in a small venue in Minneapolis, Mn back in 73-74ish. They were so great, I turned to my friend & asked "what are their names again?" cuz I wanted to make sure I remembered, they were better than the headliner we were there for! Shortly thereafter, their first hit song hit the radio, I was ecstatic. Uber talented, and I agree that you need to check out some of the "At Daryl's House" stuff, AMAZING collabs with all kinds of legendary musicians.
Good stuff! Thank you for sharing a good memory.
Used to get lots of air play on “urban”radio stations especially with She’s Gone and Sara Smile. The DJs thought they were black.
Seems like with this many views in 1 hour people are hungry for this music. This rabbit hole goes real deep. Even Daryl alone or LIVE AT DARYL'S HOUSE thanks again.
What can I say, She’s gone and Sara Smile are great classics. Today’s music cannot compare. Maybe one day you could react to, in my opinion another great song by Hall and Oates, Method of Modern Love. So far no one else has reacted to this song. I know you’ll like the way it sounds. Thank you for your honest reviews. Look forward to your next one.
The greatest blue eyed soul duo of all time and my very favorite. First listen to them doing "Sara Smile", then, "One On One", "I Can't Go For That ", "Your Kiss", Maneater", and "Out Of Touch"
This is my very favorite song 🎵 by Hall and Oates, love it 😀 I saw them live last August and they introduced their sax player as the same one that has been with them from the start of their career ❤
They were my first concert in 1978, awesome!
@@brewswillis9783 this was the first time I got to go and my son took me for my birthday. I am 71 and this is the music of my younger years
"Out of touch," "Your kiss", "Private Eyes" are all excellent songs by them also.
Also "Maneater". 👍👍
@@vcole7611 and Sara Smile and Rich girl
You like horns, then you need to check out Chicago! The early stuff.
"Baby Come Back" by Player always reminded me of this song! Please check it out!
"Sara Smile" next. Definitely.
A few really good songs of theirs that I haven't seen too many reactions to from other reactors are: Your Kiss Is On My List (Official video 1980), Say It Isn't So (Official HD video 1983), Your Imagination (Official video 1981), Wait For Me (Live Stereo Montreal Forum 1983), One On One (Official video 1982), Possession Obsession (Official video 1984), You've Lost That Loving Feeling (1980 Cover of The Righteous Brothers 1965 song - Official video), and Method Of Modern Love (Official video 1984).
Great duo, I grew up thinking soft rock, but allow for blue eye soul. I'm 64 and these guys always touched me.
TY TY your reaction was priceless. Sara smile also a BANGER. Thanks for keeping this music alive and hopefully the new generation will enjoy.
By far my favorite song by them. Great groove to this song. You have to look up Daryl's House! Daryl Hall invites different musicians to his house and jam. More Hall & Oates!!
Thanks for the great reacting, Chod! I Can't Go For That or One On One are two more of their songs worth checking out!
One on One is another great Hall & Oates song.
loved the first time I heard it in the seventies.
Maneater...... By Hall and Oats 🔥🔥
This was the 70s! Philly Soul!
I envy you so much Mr Chod. I've heard nearly every song you jave reacted to, at least the older ones, all of my life. You remind to aplreciate the greatness that I sometimes taje for granted. Thank you for that.
Glad to see you're diggin the music I grew up with. There's A LOT MORE !!!!! Happy listening!!
Sarah Smile is my favorite Hall & Oats song. Amazing. I got to see them live at the Hollywood Bowl a couple of years ago. It was a magical night. :-)
Iconic talents! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏blue eyed soul!
Love Hall and Oats, they were amazing.
Hall and Oates obviously influenced by the Philly Sound. You can hear their love of R&B 💜
Classic!! Daryl Hall got so much handsomer as he got older. 😊💜💚💛✌️
“Pretty bodies help dissolve the memories”… classic lyric!
Great reaction! I grew up with all the 70's and 80's music and I always go back to the 70's and 80's music when I want to chill and listen to great music! Please react to the song "Together" by Teirra! I'm pretty sure you will enjoy it!
One of the smoothest openings of a song ever.
Love this song. Was a late teen when this came out!😁 Great reaction, thank you for the memories u bring ♥️👍
the guitar player in the red jacket - played with so many groups are artists. Was also part of David Letterman show house group
hall and Oates are one the greatest things that have ever happened on Earth
Yaaasssss! Blue eyed soul at its best!
Try “I Can’t Go For That” next. One of my favorites.
Their other great early tune was Sarah Smile. You will love reacting to it.This was the first and still my favorite Hall and Oates tune. 👍🏻❤️☮️
You are right it is a perfect song and the 70’s And sixties were the best musical times! So much creativity and crossover of styles by different ethnic and racial people!👍🏻❤️☮️✌🏻
This is one of my favs by them.
The song runs over 7 minutes, and amazingly the main vocal doesn't even come in until bar 21! Can you imagine any record company executive allowing that nowadays?!
I can't remember if this or Sara's Smile was written after his wife at the times sister died. i know one of them was a tribute to her. the three of them were very close and it broke their marriage apart in heartbreaking ways.
Being in my early teens when the Philly Soul sound was coming through the speaker of my transistor radio was pretty sweet, I tell ya.
I laughed when you said bring in the 80's and knew this was done in the 70's. There sound was different in the 80's, but not way different that you wouldn't know it wasn't them. Some of their 80's songs are: Man Eater, One on One, Private Eyes, Kiss on My List, I can't go for that, ect.
Yes, come on 80's. How about some Journey, Billy Idol, INXS, The Cure, Montley Crue, ect.
THIS IS A 70'S CLASSIC----------------I SAW THEM IN '78, IN DENVER. THEY WERE FANTASTIC .----------------MJL, 74 Y/O
The 80s were good, the 70s was awesome.
The 5 minute + version (with the guitar solo), from the Abandoned Luncheonette album is FAR superior to the 3+minute "single version" (released YEARS later -to follow-up "Sara Smile" becoming a hit).
...but the, REAL, gem from Abandoned Luncheonette is the album-closer, a master-class featuring Bernard "Pretty" Purdie (as on this song) on the drum kit:
"Every Time I Look At You"
Listen to that bad-assity if you, really, want to hear a percolating groove (and a song that switches styles, twice, over its running time!) 🤘🤘
-All of that said: "She's Gone" IS, absolutely: a, TOTALLY, PERFECT song and, likely, the best thing that Daryl Hall and John Oates have ever written together! 🤘🔥⚡⚡🔥🔥🤘💙🧡💜🤘🤘!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love Hall & Oats seen them In concert In Las Vegas Caesars Palace .
You love harmonies?
Beach Boys.
SO many to choose from but I'd suggest to start with Good Vibrations (you MUST know that one) and take it from there.
Hall & Oates are a fantastic blue-eyed soul duo and have been for many years.
Prefer their earlier stuff but its all good.
Best selling pop duo of all time.
I'll give you another hall and oates classic: "do what you want, be what you are"
Love the old pictures!
Have a wee dip into Daryl's House where he has friends and guests around to jam. Has some sensational sessions including Jo Walsh, Smokey Robinson and loads of others, well worth a listen
Yes
H&O are solid gold blue eyed soul!
Thanks! All these years I thought HALL & OATS was a cereal brand...
You may like a band called the Cure,Pictures of you is one of their songs
"LIVE at Daryl's House" is a great CZcams channel where Daryl Hall invites epic singers/musicians to his studio to sing hits. You really have to watch it. Daryl Hall is 74 yrs old now and can sing just as good as he did 30 yrs ago. Check out his channel.
Their stuff in the '80s is a bit poppier. Still good though.
They were excellent song crafters, and multi-instrumentalists to boot...
This is just great. Just great.
When you don't want an intro to end you're probably going to like the song.
Soo many hits... keep them coming.
thought it was a soul group called Haulin' Oats when I heard this on the radio for the first time.
I've seen you mention how you're impressed when a drummer can sing as they play. You need to check out some of the band KISS. Peter Criss as Catman does it very well.
Also Eric Carr as The Fox who came in after Peter, played drums and sang aswell
The Philly sound, Hall & Oats and Todd Rundgren
Always and Ever my favorite H&O song. Not even close. Only thing close is the Live From Darryl's House "I Can't Go For That" with Celo Green. Northern Soul, as pictured in the dictionary. EDIT: OK, I forgot Sara Smile, which is #2 and pretty close to this.
Just a great song!!!
Daryl also had a terrific solo album "Three Hearts in the happy ending machine" 1986 "Someone like you" "Dreamtime"
This is, essentially, "the perfect song." 💜💜💜🧡🧡
...To hear them cover an even wider range (with the same soul and funk), check-out the closing track to this album [their sophomore release: Abandoned Luncheonette], entitled:
"Every Time I Look At You" 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥⚡🤘🤘
(featuring the, rightfully, LEGENDARY, SUPERB: Bernard "Pretty" Purdie on the drum kit! 🤘🤘👊) -So durrrty, 'll make ya Mama whitewash the inside o'your brain, after you listen to it! 😜😁😏🤣😂🤘🤘).
These guys were all over the radidio (and MTPee) in the 1980s ...but their '70s stuff is the far superior music and composition.
...and they're, still, doing it today!
[Best '80s songs from -and THANK YOU for saying it CORRECTLY, Mr. Wilburn!:
Daryl Hall & John Oates (Sure, everyone uses "Hall & Oates" as 'operative shorthand,' but that has never, actually, been the name or designation of the artist. Ever.)- the band:
"Adult Education"
and
"Kiss On My List"]
"Sara smile" is a good song, but the first time Sara was introduced was off of "Abandoned luncheonette" ('73.).."Las Vegas Turnaround" was the song and Sara was a flight attendant, and to me is an even better song. That was their best album. I was in HS, and me and a buddy wore the thing out..They didn't really catch on right away...They had maybe bigger selling albums, and hits, (aside from this one) later on like "Man-eater", "Sara Smile", "Rich Girl" and a bunch of others, but none of their albums were ever as good as Abandoned Luncheonette. (Maybe bigger commercially, but NOT better)...The whole album is great..."She's Gone" is off of AL, and it was what got our attention, originally.
Come on now...who can not like Hall & Oats? Yeah, I'm talking to those 2 dislikes. Wtf? Really?
Earwax buildup.
There songs are great rabbit hole them😊
On CZcams look for Live From Daryl’s House! 70 year old Daryl ( looking 40) has had countless top groups and singers in every genre jamming with his house band. It ROCKS!
I suggest you watch them and CeeLo Green killing it on their classic, “ I Can’t Go For That”
Thank me later! 😘
Band Chicago "I've Been Seardhing" sudio version lots of brass great song.
You'll dig "Sara Smile". One of their really groovy songs from the 70's just like this one.
A great record.
You need to here; Sara, smile, Maneater, and do what you want, be what you are, you’re welcome 🎤😎👍
They have alot of perfect songs
This song reminds me of Player "Baby come back" which you should react to
I can see you enjoyed
Sarah smile ✌️♥️
Great reaction!
DO a deep dive on Earth Wind & Fire "Fantasy"
'Sara Smile' will also send you away...'One On One' another
Sara Smile is another good one
The most successful duo in history
Please react to I can't go for that no can do live from the APOLLO. Talk about energy.
If you react to I can't go for that no can do, please do the live version from the APOLLO. It is amazing. Thanks.
"One on One"!! by H&O!
soooo much this!
He runs a place where artists can get together and play. It’s called Darryl’s house. You should check that out! 🎶❤️🎧
Genius'
I like their singing style
I'm pretty sure that is a Rhodes Electric Piano you're referring to :)
Do the live version of Wait for Me by Hall and Oates. Daryl’s vocals on that are stunning!
Now you need to listen to Sarah Smile!!
There are some great live performances of this song. If you like this you should check out some Daryl's House episodes on CZcams. Daryl Hall has a studio in his house and invites other artists over to jam. Those sessions are heavenly.
