  • OK! Here we go, this is my first try with the Morphagene, I was very excited to finally receive this module, which has been on my wish list for quite a while, so look out for plenty of Morphagene exploration coming soon. I started with a nice loop from Rangoon on the Lubadh and proceeded to explore and figure out how the Morphagene works, and you can come along with me for the journey! This was my first Reel, although I think after filming this I realised I’d made a new reel and still had an empty first reel, but hey, I’m still learning and exploring how this module works! My goal was to create some nice ambient soundscapes from a relatively simple melodic loop, and I think I accomplished that, what do you think? Of course the Morphagene was helped along my Mimeophon and Beads, some of my favourite ambient making modules! Anyway, sit back & enjoy! MM.

    Woooo! I think what you're doing with morphagene is great. Snipping little segments of your recording and playing around/stretching it out, it's excellent

      Thank you! Yeh I’m very much still learning, but I’ve already recorded a few more interesting morphagene patches! I hope they just keep improving, I guess that’s always the goal right?

      Thanks Hessence! Yeh I had a lot of fun just exploring, I’m excited to keep patching and seeing what I can create with this module! It feels like it’s limit at the moment is my ideas, finding more creative ways to utilise it! Which I think is a good place to be, time to learn all I can about Morphagene!

      Yeh I’ve been wanting one for a long time! I’m still learning and figuring out how it works, but already super pleased with it and the possibilities! This video is a bit of a come along with me in my first patch with it, I enjoyed it and I was pretty happy with the results! You have a Morphagene don’t you? I’m looking forward to getting more familiar with it, like I am with some other modules!

    • @megamodularis
      @megamodularis  Před rokem +1

      Thanks Dylan! ooof that is a tough question! I've got to say I don't think I've had the Morphagene long enough to get very familiar with it, whereas I've had the lubadh for longer, so I feel like I can get more out of it at the moment (but I think that might change in the future!) having said that I think if pressed and you had the option between the two I'd lean towards the Morphagene at the moment, even though I love the Lubadh too... I guess it depends too what kind of music your making? Maybe I should do a comparison video between the two what do you think?

      @@megamodularis Thanks for your answer and question. At this point im using Mannequins W/ alot and because im using it alot i actually want to give it some more space (so looking at bigger options) To me the lubadh looks more like a straight forward tape machine doubled up and morphagene as a tape granular splicer in stereo. BUT i don't really know what i actually want in it :/ I do think more comparison's on youtube is actually a good thing but only if you really want to make such video of course.

    • @megamodularis
      @megamodularis  Před rokem

      @@vlenda Yeh you're pretty much right about the Lubadh and the Morphagene although there is some cross-over where the Lubadh can kind of do similar things (with small segments and random tape head movement) and it's new firmware has opened up it's potential a lot, to me they kind of attack similar problems just in quite different ways... Also when you say give Mannequins more space, do you mean, more modules to help it and your sonic explorations of it? like one of these two modules? I do find they're both great for that, for extracting more out of a voice, and creating more interesting textures etc.. And no worries, I'm always looking for new video ideas, hopefully I can figure something out and get it together in a video in the future!

    Hello! I have a question with nothing plugged into the Inputs of your Morphagene. And the gain stage set to -3dB with the new firmware and the sos knob turned CCW to monitor the inputs do you hear very loud white noise or sound like someone is sucking threw a straw?

    • @megamodularis
      @megamodularis  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hey there, let me check tomorrow and I’ll report back with what I find! I can’t remember off the top of my head how noisy Morphagene is on it’s own, but I think some digital modules can be quite noisy (I’ve had issues in the past with modules not getting along, such as the Instruo Lubadh & the Doepfer wasp filter) you could try disconnecting modules to see if it goes away? This is what I did and ended up removing the wasp filter from my modular… anyway I’ll have a listen tomorrow and let you know!

      @@megamodularisgreat, I appreciate it. I’ve just pulling my hair out. I’ve messaged back and forth a few times with MN. It’s completely possible I have terrible input and output gain staging. I’ve been able to set the gain staging in a way that I kind of mitigate the sound but it’s still somewhat present.

    • @megamodularis
      @megamodularis  Před 11 měsíci

      Hey, @@justinwilliams5925 So I had a little test, and found in some situations that there was some audible noise in this kind of setting, firstly it seemed to go away/ become inaudible whenever there was any input or when playing from the reel, for me this noise was also exacerbated when chaining the Morphagene through other modules such as Beads and/or Mimeophon. Although I know Make Noise recently released a firmware for the Mimeophon reducing the noise floor.
      Also at what I'd call 'normal' volume levels, with music happening, I had a pretty tough time hearing any noise
      honestly, I think your always going to get a bit of noise with digital modules, I'd try not to focus on trying to find the noise (it can be easy to do when cranking up your volume/gain) in general proper gain staging is pretty effective I've found too, it might also be worth trying what I mentioned before, seeing if the noise is an issue with only the Morphagene in your case, then adding modules back in until you might find that two modules don't get along and make the noise worse? this can be a pain to do, but if your sufficiently annoyed it might be worth a shot!
      I hope this helps!
