I hear you. I purchased the white Shape of Heart during Black Friday at a phenomenal price ($160.00 and then I had some cc points that brought it to an out-of-pocket of $120.00). It has what I think is a similar material, kinda’ matte, but I don’t feel that it is “light”, it feels quite substantial. With that being said, if I had paid the retail price (the place I purchased it from has it currently selling for $378), I would have been disappointed.
Hey Tiff!! So glad you posted this video sharing your authentic reactions and thoughts on this pen! I think that if they were going to use cheap plastic as they do on the regular line of Platinum Century 3776s (like the laurel green, which are light, but they are lacquered finishes), they cannot be pricing this pen at $430. The diamonds are probably just cheap crystals, too!! XD So, Platinum, please inform us of the rarity and quality of the materials used on this pen...it will help us justify the cost! Now, on a more serious note, I do notice that my "matte" Sailors are lighter and feel more plasticky and hollow than the regular lacquered Sailors. The Imperial Black and my PGS Sound of Rain pens are quite light. But for the Sound of Rain PGS, because they are small to begin with, that lightness feels fine. The lightness of the PG Imperial Black felt a bit cheap to me, but if I were to guess, I'd say it still feels more substantial than this Shape of Heart. So this same finding should be true about the matte shape of heart vs the lacquered shape of hearts from the previous years. Should consult with Seemonay and others who have the 1st shape of heart to see if the weights are indeed different.

It’s a bummer that you are not happy with your new pen. That can’t be a good feeling. I’m new to FP’s and I just unboxed mine, but I loved that it was light feeling. I do a lot of writing and have a bad wrist and it feels pleasant in hand for me, but I also didn’t pay that much for mine. I got a deal and paid closer to 300$ but I can see why you think it feels cheap. It is very light. Mine writes like a dream so I’m happy with it so far.

I appreciate the honest thoughts. Mine came in yesterday and I absolutely love it. I also have the shapen of heart Ivoire and the Silhouette so I knew what to expect with the matte finish. I agree that the price point is just a little too high, but this is a pen that spoke to me so I was happy to pay it. Whether you decide to keep it or sell, SOMEONE will love it!

I was able to find this pen, in stock 😮, a couple of nights ago at “Japan with Love” for $326. I haven’t dealt with this seller before so I’ll withhold judgement until I receive the pen. Shipping to the US was reasonable ($20). It’s out of stock now but it may be worth keeping an eye on this shop to see if they restock. I think all the hype and this lovely colorway has pushed the price on this pen artificially high to $420.
I completely understand your feelings. I’m a big Pelikan fan and now that I’ve got a few different models the M200 pens but don’t cut it for me. The materials are beautiful but don’t have any heft and I don’t feel good about buying any more of them. As you’ve said before, we spend a lot of money on these things and need to feel good about our purchase.
I feel the same way you do about the 200 series of the Pelicans… I got one at a good price to try it and see what it was like. It’s such a good writer but when I was at the pen shall I try the 400 600-801,000 models and honestly I will be saving my coins until I can get the pen that fits my hand much better. No regrets about buying it at what I paid but it’s definitely a one-off. My pens are my happy place and I’m going for joy with every purchase 💖
I love new pen day! I loved the look of this Platinum ... until you said it doesn't feel right. Of the pens you had on-screen today, the Sailor ProGear was my favorite. Remember, that pen comes in Matte Black and it is wonderful. I have around 50 fountain pens and my Sailor ProGear Matte with a 21k MF nib is my favorite. Also, Sailor nibs are incredible! I’m in total agreement with you. It is very plastic in feel and look. It looks and feels cheap for quite an expensive pen. It writes well but gee whiz - that feeling that you paid “for that” can’t be overlooked

For as much as I seen it cost it does suck that it feels basic :C I’ve never owned a shape of heart (or any 3776 FP for that matter) and this color scheme was the only one I’ve seen that I was excited for so I’m little disappointed that it feels cheap. For that price too 👀. I’ve been searching for it that’s not over $400 but maybe I don’t need own it if there’s people feeling this way about it 😅

Looks like more of a “satin” finish than a true “matte” finish to me.

I understand your disappointment. The pen seems not to have the quality feel and heft, although it has wonderful trims, nib and colour.
