- If you haven't heard of Pai in Northern Thailand, you are missing out! Nestled up a crazy winding road about 3hrs from Chiang Mai, this small town has a population of only about 4,000 people, but it is a very popular place for travelers looking to get away from it all. It has a very hippy, bohemian, creative vibe going on and great for people who want to see more remote natural beauty in Thailand. I liked it so much that I decided to skip my flight from Chiang Rai!

I just know the dad had NO IDEA what marrying to mom and inheriting a restless daughter would do to his life. I joked he got a "different virus" from his daughter, the 15 year old Japanese model. When she took off to Tokyo to do modeling, that had to be the beginning of a realization this was a very DIFFERENT sort of daughter! And now, they are off to Hanoi and the mountains of northern Vietnam! Does he tell stories in town?

Hi Alina! There's no place like home, and there is no place like Pai, Thailand! Sometimes we unexpectedly find special and unique places when we are looking ahead to other plans. Pai has such a cool vibe, and the surrounding landscapes and natural features are awesome and wonderful. Remote northern Thailand is truly a lovely getaway for you and dad!

I had been living / vlogging from a Hostel in Old town Chiang Mai, where I stayed for about a month,. I was told I must visit Pai before I left Thailand. I was told, once there, I wouldn't want to leave. Well after a week, HE WAS RIGHT ! Hahaha, I booked a month and soaked in the place. Of all the beach trips and travel, this one place gave the, "rest O weary traveler and be at peace" place. It felt like the real Thailand, where time stood still and you felt welcomed.
Once you are back home in Canada, if you decided to build a home I'll bet you will have some interesting architectural ideas after staying in Asia.👍😎🇺🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦
It's beautiful that you are guiding your dad through S.E. Asia which I presume is a very exciting adventure for him, given the vast differences between this area and Canada. Also I think he did great snatching up noodles with chopsticks, given larger egg noodles aren't very easy to grip. I am sure your dad will enjoy Chiangmai, given it's still a cozy city despite its larger size relative to theusual sleepy tourist centers. And finally--- WELCOME BACK TO BKK!!!

Welcome to Thailand, Alina. I am Thai, I've traveled a lot to work in many areas of this country but I confess to you that 30 years of traveling, I've never been to Mae Hong Son, exactly Pai also, ha ha.. I know Pai is one of the most famous places to visit. You are cute and lucky.
The city of Pai - Thailand is very interesting. Especially for people who suffer from the stress of big cities. And only 30 USD/day. My favorite breakfast: Veggie Breakfast (06:09). An ideal place to rediscover the fullness and beauty of life. Loved the suggestion!

From Chiang Mai I was to Me Sa Valley, which was also a remote place. At least in the days, I was there. It was so relaxing to hear the nature without all of the motorcycles.

When I came to Bangkok in 2000 to live a Thai friend gave me a resort stay at Pai. I flew to Chiang Mai and the flight was cancelled. I knew i couldn't do the van ride due to motion sickness and back to Bangkok. Now my wife has retired it's on the to do list.
Pai felt like i was in the middle of nature in the middle of trees and mountains. it had a really good vibe like you describe in the video. It was the most isolated place I've stayed in thailand for sure.

I pedaled from Tham Pla, Mae Hongsonm and stayed at resort on the right just before you cross the bridge of Pai river. They had a swimming pool filled with hot spring water. It was so relaxing for my tired muscles, and I started fresh next morning

I've been watching your videos for a long time and when your dad joined he didn't seem very happy. After all these trips he seems very happy and even looks younger. I came to thailand when I was 21 years old in the early eighties…I was in the navy… I fell in love with the place back then and told myself I would retire there one day….we’ll I have been retired here now for 6 months.. I’m in southern Thailand now… I have all my paperwork in order and I’m going to get a bigger bike and start touring soon… I’m really into photography and want to go to as many temples as I can and photograph them…. Pai looks like a wonderful place… I’m sure my travels will take me up there in the future….your young… so enjoy this time that you have for exploring before the business of life gets a hold of you… it took me 40 years to get back here…. Great video… I hope to be up there soon….

Have you been to Koh Phangan? It’s a very similar vibe to Pai, many Yoga resorts and relaxed hippie style island. Don’t bother with the Full Moon, there’s so much more to the island. Natural landscapes great hiking amazing beaches cool restaurants and relaxing lifestyle 😊

Pai is actually next to where I am, Lamphun. I like the way you narrate and the places you've been to are really interesting places that anyone would love to go. I alo love to see how you take care of your dad and bring him to these places and another important thing... you've got really refreshing lovely face and soothing voice.

Ah, many fond memories. Pai is truly a gem, more so some 15 years ago. I've been there several times. About 3 hours by van from Chiang Mai with a toilet break halfway. There's so much to see and do in Pai itself but especially if you travel to Mae Hong Son. Too many tourists for my liking but it wasn't like this until recently. Check out Yoma and the Quarter. Also Blue Ox and Brookview chalet. The overnight train ride from Bangkok to Chiang Mai is an adventure by itself.

I have been following your travel videos since you were in Cambodia, and each place you covered is beautiful in its own way. In 2002 I went to Thailand for 3 weeks. I ended up staying for 1 year . I miss Pai and many other places in South East Asia. I never regret doing that.

I went to Pai for the weekend and stayed two weeks. It's a magical place. You've captured the essentials, but I would add that it has really good live music and a good jazz club as well as some great party bars that are smaller and more intimate with floor lounging spaces. I've been in Chiang Mai for 10 years now. Doubt I'll ever leave.

Day time temp would be quite high but pleasant at night. But then there is Songkran Festival 13-15 Apr when you be wet all day having fun splashing water on strangers.

The BIGGEST problem with Pai is.... TOO Many Tourists! Too many farang, for sure. Why do you come to Thailand just to hang out with the same people you left at home? Makes no sense, really.
Pai used to be incredible. Let’s hope chiang dao doesnt go that way. Compared to UBUD, Pai is paradise as far as tourists
