Shield E. is a world class percussionist. And traveled as Prince's opening act and guest percussionist for years.
Prince believed woman were treated very unfair in the music industry. And was angered that the industry thought a women had to "look a certain way ". He helped some women get their start. I love his song, The Beautiful Ones.
he definitely put women out in front throughout his whole career, right up until the end with his all female band 3rd Eyed Girl who were featured in his later shows right up front with him. Saw a show in 2014 and they were fantastic as the lead musicians and him singing. By that time he was done jumping around and doing splits...had to use a cane but still one of the best shows ive ever seen
He played 27 instruments. Composed the music, Wrote, all the songs, produced, and sang and played all the instruments on about 90% of the tracks on all his LPs.

Seeing Prince live was always a party.
Prince wrote the song with Sheila E. He also wrote The Glamorous Life for her too. He has an album out called Originals where he sings Glamorous Life. It also has him singing Manic Monday (The Bangles), Jungle Love (Morris Day) and Love Thy Will Be Done (Martika).
Prince wrote all the songs for Shelia E ,The Time which included Morris Day Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. He created the Minneapolis sound all his rival groups in Mpls and he owned all the music so much for competition. Songs today are still considered Minneapolis sound like Uptown Funk. Prince didn’t write it but that song is definitely inspired by Prince. I loved being able to see Prince and the revolution and NPG in the 90s live in small venues in Mpls I
Absolutely fantastic seeing Prince Live as he was trying out new music for a live audience in a bar. Or when he’d show up at 7Street Entry unannounced and takeover the stage 7th Street entry was the side door bar in First Ave. Remember how the rumors about where he might be showing up in the middle 80s every weekend?

Sheila Escoveda - daughter of Pete Escoveda, goddaughter of Tito Puente. She's a percussionist who later began singing.
Shiela Escavedo is her name. Her Father and her brother, Coke, had a band called Azteca. I forgot her father's name, and Shiela plays her drums along with them.

Knew she was known as a percussionist, but not specifically the drums. A lot of people think they're the same, but they're not always.
His dancing is what gave him his health issues. He was in so much pain by the end of his life. He never let the pain stop anything while performing.

His performances were always high energy. If u watch "sign o the times" 1987 concert film and "love sexy" 1988 concert ftom germany, which is on you tube, you pl see high energy dance show from prince w sheila e having a drum solo in each concert. This was a Sheila e show w prince coming in for the last song. Usually Sheila opened for prince, then played w him on his show. Another factiod, Tony, Toni, Tone' were going to be sheila s backup dingers, but prince went in a different direction.

Prince is timeless and the g.o.a.t for many of us. Understand he could play every instrument as good as anyone he just had groups to go on tour with and jam with. This is one of my favorites he wrote.

This was actually Sheila E's tour. Prince was the suprise guest. The audience had no idea that Prince was going to perform. It came out on vhs back in 1986.
Big Prince fan and major respect for one of the only female percussionists in the business. Sheila E. has been around for a long time. She started by playing with her dad. Another great live video of Prince is "Play That Funky Music".
If you have not already seen it, you must view Prince playing his guitar in a star studded tribute ceremony. It was in Honor of George Harrison of The Beatles, If i'm not mistaken. The song they are playing is "While my Guitar Gently Weeps". His performance in the tribute starts about halfway through, but then it explodes and he pretty much takes over the rest of the song. If I'm not mistaken,
he was not on a list for being a fantastic guitar player and he wanted to show that he should have been on that list. What a performance, You'll see what I mean!😮❤😊
The list was Rolling Stone magazines top 100 guitarist of all time. Also Prince was being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame the same night as George and couldn't make the rehersal for George's tribute and the producer was a little nervous but Tom Petty told him , "its Prince , he'll be fine ".

When I went to Prince’s Purple Rain concert at the Capital Center in November of 1984 Sheila E was his opening act. She was fantastic! The whole concert was Phenomenal!! The man knew how to put on a show!!!!!

Prince coming off the high of Purple Rain. He MADE a bunch of artists, including Shiela E. Then and now, there was really nothing else going on like what he was doing. Pretty sure Prince was a James Brown fan, and he put in the work to be a GREAT dancer.

So you’re absolutely right. Sheila E. is a world famous drummer who is also a vocalist. She was encouraged by Prince to do more singing and she went for it. “A Love Bizarre” was written by Prince. Prince had a slew of protégés that he would write songs for and I guess he loved the songs he wrote so much that he would often perform them in his own concerts. The backing band is Prince’s mid-80s band The Revolution and they are on their 1986 “Parade Tour” with Sheila E as a special guest. This tour would actually be the last time the band would tour with Prince as he disbanded them on the last show in Yokohama, Japan. Sheila would become Prince’s full time drummer the following year and into 1989 and then on and off again for the next few decades.
I saw Prince 3 times in concert but it was really a 2-3 hour Show just like this. Good Times 💜💜💜

The Revolution is the band he played with during is Purple Rain days. He considered them the Mt. Rushmore of bands he played with. Sheila E is a drummer but also would sing. At one point early in Prince's career he proposed marriage to Sheila E.
The Revolution was his first band from 1979-1986. Sheila E. was part of his band on the Lovesexy and Sign O the Times.

Sheila is a drummer & percussionist but Prince had her sing and record a couple of albums. Prince wrote Love Bizarre for her and most of her songs. This was her show but he made a special appearance to do Love Bizarre with her. He per usual took over. His concerts were always high energy when he was younger. He could dance, sing, produce, arranged and play multiple instruments. The man could do EVERYTHING at a high level. To me he is the GOAT!
Prince is tops. People do compare MJ with Prince. I don't. But if there was a choice, there is no choice. Prince was a talent beyond comparison.
His death hit me super hard, like I'd been punched in the gut. That rarely happens. I knew at that moment we'd likely not see a level of talent that high again.

The Revolution was Prince's band in the mid-80s. This is how they got down live. Sheila was one of his drummers and briefly his girlfriend. Jerome is from The Time, which was another band in Prince's stable that he produced under his Jamie Starr alter ego and had a contrived rivalry with. Morris Day was the lead singer of The Time, and actually has a song called "Oak Tree" that went with the dance. So, Prince talking about chopping it down to make the Wooden Leg was all part of the world building.
My Minneapolis roommate took this small town kid to First Ave, Prince’s main venue, in 1984. What a fun eye opener! Anyone wanting to understand Prince better should find the uncut version of his movie Purple Rain, a musical classic.
This is actually the last stop on her “In Romance 1600” Tour in San Francisco. She is in fact a drummer and was one of his best drummers up until the time of his death. I was very lucky to see him at the Rock over Germany festival in 1995 from really close up, maybe 5 meters away in fact, and it was one of the best concert experiences of all time. He was so unexpectedly small, but so incredibly charismatic and talented and captivating that I will never forget it.

Sheila's father is Pete Escovedo who was percussionist at SANTANA. In the 80s I was also a Michael Jackson fan but Prince was always a special artist for me with a special band "The Revolution" that I really appreciate much later. "A love bizarre" was a dance track that was in the music charts and were played a lot in the clubs those days. Of course Prince produced this song for Sheila E. He did the same for his bassist "André Cimone" with the song "Dance Electric" that was a perfect Minneapolis funk sound track - also a club banger in the 80s. Prince also produced the 80s charts song "Mia Bocca" for Jill Jones. Prince had a lot of influence on the 80s music club scene.
I was lucky enough to see Prince LIVE TWICE in my Lifetime. I still have the taffeta flowers that fell from the ceiling from one of his concerts. I patched those puppies all over some jeans and wore them to the 2nd concert a decade later! :-D #luckyB

Nice reaction. While I was growing up the nightclub about 6 blocks from my house always had a sign that said "PETE ESCOVEDO AND BAND PERFORMING TONIGHT". By the time I was a teenager, it became "PETE AND SHEILA ESCOVEDO AND BAND PERFORMING TONIGHT". I wish I had been old enough to see them at least once.

Yes, Sheila E. is a drummer. In fact, back in the 80's I saw Eric Clapton in concert on his 25th anniversary tour when he was playing all his powerhouse songs from his "Cream era" and Sheila E. was his drummer. Opening song was White Room! Oh yeah! Sheila E.'s a drummer!

Sheila E is a drummer and she’s also a daughter of a brilliant musician. Her father was in the band Santana. Prince wrote this song that appeared on her album. Prince wrote MANY songs for others as well including The Time, The Bangels and The Family just to name a few.

This is from Sheila E.'s excellent 1986 'Romance 1600' concert, which I own on VHS and have watched countless times. This is the closing performance. Prince and his band, The Revolution, appeared as special guests. Britt, you ought to react to Sheila's performance of "Sister Fate" or "Glamorous Life" from this concert. She's playing percussion and singing.

Sheila has played drums for Santana, Lionel Ritchie, Tito Puente, Prince and more. Prince was the best concert experience ever!
"Turn around" is when the music goes into a breakdown and some times comes back to the groove, changes groove or as in here is the finale.

ETA: Prince doing all that dancing and leaping off amps and speakers in high heels is what caused him to have painful hip problems that he took strong prescription pain pills for. He ultimately overdosed and died.

This concert was a Sheila E concert to promote her Romance 1600 album. Prince & The Revolution came out for the encore for two songs: "A Love Bizarre" & "Kiss". The "Kiss" footage is so far still unreleased. Kiss was Prince's huge #1 hit from 1986. The concert was released in 1986 on VHS. I remember renting it when I was in High School in 1986. The part with "The Oak Tree". You need to watch Purple Rain. The rival band in the movie was The Time and was led by Morris Day and Jerome was also part of The Time. By the time the movie came out Morris Day quit the Prince camp and thought he could do better as a solo artist. The Oak Tree was Morris' single and new dance in 1985. (There is a video for the song). So when Prince said he was going to chopped down the Oak Tree that was a dig at Morris Day and why the audience lost their minds over the whole skit. And just for reference The Revolution was Prince's backing band from 1979-1986. Great reaction video. It was truly a blessing for me to be a teenager during the time Prince was just starting out and became the genius we all now know. Literally every few weeks was another Prince song, video, performance, appearance, etc. and he did this for decades, so much wonder, joy, and entertainment.

Prince is my all time favorite entertainer, hands down, and you nailed it when you said there will never be another like him. We are so incredibly lucky to have lived in the time where he existed 💜 I saw him live 8 times, and each performance was better than the last!
The man never got due credit for his sense of humor. He obviously took his craft seriously but there was always a prevailing element of pure fun in his performances.
Prince was only about 27 yrs old in this video. Later in life he had chronic hip pain from jumping off of things on stage in those high heels.

Brings back memories of the early eighties. Going to a different club every night of the week and dancing our asses off. I met Prince at a party about the time he released his first album. I was in a fashion show and we used one of his songs (Soft and Wet). He walked into an apartment about midnight (dark sun glasses and two big guys behind him). He was not well known at this time. I blurted out how much I liked the song and I thought he was very talented. He looked up at me over the top of his sunglasses and walked right by me LMAO! Not a word. lololol

I've seen Prince at least 5 times or more in Maryland (Capital Centre), Washington DC and Virginia. The first concert was the Purple Rain tour in 1984. I NEVER sat down at any of those shows💜💜💃💃

I went to this. I can see myself dancing. You just see the back of my head at the lower right corner of the beginning. This was Sheila E's gig. When P came on here at the end, we swarmed the front of the stage.
The "Oak Tree" reference around the 13:00 mark is in reference to a song (and dance) former Time frontman Morris Day released after he bolted from the band. "Chopping down" that ol' Oak Tree was Prince's playful way of getting in a good-natured(?) dig at his longtime friend.
Turnaround is a musical term. What he did after he said turnaround was turnaround.
