Don’t all college RBs have trouble with pass pro? And his ability to hang onto the ball will define his NFL career.

On Chris Simms predraft podcast both he and his host independently chose Lloyd as the best back in the draft. Simms was comparing him to McCaffrey in the passing game and he can make people miss or break tackles in the run game.

The Green Bay Packers new runningback Marshawn Lloyd is coming to the NFL with relatively a few opportunities in the passing game. However, Matt Lafluer sees that element as a key part of his contributions to this Green Bay Packers team. During Marshawn Lloyd’s final 2 seasons at South Carolina and USC, he totaled just 43 targets during that span. For some context, at an average of just over 21 targets per season, that figure (21) in 2023 specifically would have ranked 99th out of all runningbacks. Similarly to AJ Dillion when he was coming out of Boston College, he had very few ingame reps in the passing game, but as Brian Gutekunst mentioned following Day 2 of the 2024 NFL draft, having scouts at practices, attending the All-Star games, as well as watching at the NFL combine gives the Packers the confidence that AJ Dillion, now Marshawn Lloyd could impact the passing game. While Marshawn Lloyd’s opportunities in the passing game this past season at USC were somewhat limited, he certainly made most of them, averaging a whopping 17.8 yards per catch on 13 receptions, for a wide receiver, 17.8 yards per catch is an impressive number and is almost unfathomable at running back. Marshawn Lloyd has good speed and has proven to be difficult to bring down, whether that’ll be through his elusiveness in the open field, or contact balance, which contributed to him ranking 26th last season in average yards after contact while recording 7.1 yards per rush. The Packers believe that Marshawn Lloyd has reliable hands, and we’ve seen what he can do with the ball. However, with his limited opportunities in college, there will be a learning curve that comes with the route-running aspect of it, but the Packers infrastructure and Marshawn Lloyd’s skill-set should put him in a position to maximize that potential. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛

Highest fumble rate by far in college football over his career. I think it's one fumble ever 36 carries. Half that will run him out of the NFL in a hurry.

I don't watch much college football until the draft. I watched the tape on Lloyd. He is going to be electrifying if he stays healthy. A game changer. He's got the stuff of running backs of old when they use to be the highlight reels of the league.
Perhaps he wasn't called on to be a receiver often but he obviously has that skill coming out of the backfield. Marcus Allen like. Will be an all time great packer running back if he remains healthy.
By the way, Eddie Lee Ivery would have been a Hall of famer if he hadn't torn his knee up

After I had a good look at Lloyd’s highlights, he’s a true beast! He’s going to learn so much from Josh Jacobs! If he can be like McCaffery, that’s a massive steal!!! He was much higher than Braelon Allen smh but like damn though, the guy can RUN!! Mind I say this, he loves competing against former teammates so he’s looking forward to go up against Williams! He’s got such an amazing attitude too!! He’s truly glad to be a Packer! Go Pack Go!!!

DJ and chris simms thought he is the best rb in this draft class. he is up there also for me. clearly he is more creative compare to the other top guys. Of course his oline was pretty bad so he needed to be creative... also he watched caleb scrambling like crazy so he might have got a bit from him!!!! id say him, johnatan brooks, the smoothest in this draft class, and my sleeper blake watson who went undrafted, are my top 3. i had jaylen wright, isaac guerendo and audric estime were my next tier. marshawn will have an immediate impact thats for sure behind jacobs. it seems aj will be relegate to only short yardage.

When I watched his game tape, he would be patient for just long enough and when and sees the seam he puts out a speed burst and he is gone. While I was writing this, Andy is saying the exact same thing I just said🤣

Dillon is mediocre at best. He was so far below Jones in ability. Thats why it looked so good when Jones was in there. Dillon was an awful draft pick that high.

Dillon may not be a star but hes a dependable veteran player who still provides value on and off the field. Hes an excellent 3rd down pass protector which is invaluable in this league. Plays hurt and rarely misses games. Decent enough hands for a 250 pounder. He was PFF's 2nd highest graded rb for the entire 2021 season. And everyone knows about his leadership and closeness to the Green Bay community. Every team needs guys like him. Not sure why everyone is in such a hurry to kick him out of town.

    • @aaiirssjoy

While I get what you’re saying, when Jones was in he was phenomenal objectively speaking. The most natural runner accelerating in finding lanes with good contact balance to finish. Dillon or not, Jones was just too good but just couldn’t stay healthy (fumbles sucked too).
Dillon is a number 3 at this point. Reliable and can protect but yeah boy is Lloyd a breath of fresh air as an electric 2 while Jacobs does most of the work. We can actually rip off runs where we outrun opponents with long speed for once.

For Dillon to have success the Oline is going to have to get better at run blocking, he's not a shifty RB that can weave through traffic. If he's going to be successful they are going to have to make holes at the line of scrimmage, once he gets to the second level with a head of steam he'll get the extra yards imo.
