Plasma guns? I came up with a weapon, based on a real idea, just reworked, that'll nuke those aliens to extinction in a single blast.
And I came up with the weapon as a replacement for MACs in Halo to fight the Covenant with.
The science, you just need to have 19.2 tonnes of material at 50% the speed of light to do the same amount of damage as a 3,000 tonne slug going just 4%. Both cases, you produce a thousand times more energy than the Tsar Bomba, as a gun.

Except thanks to the bad Ai it’s clear the alien specifically goaded him into this unsanctioned act of war to justify total war. He puts all of humanity into an uncertain dangerous future by ensuring this personal Vendetta, however justified, is now a species wide attack leading to conflict. Even if there’s a part 2 this man is an easily manipulated idiot that might get lucky.

Plot twist: The Yardiran Fleet isn't here to make war, they're here to seek a peaceful resolution. Sirius was acting on his own and their Empress had no knowledge of his actions until it was too late. She has come to offer her own head as recompense, knowing that if a war of vengeance breaks out between them, best case scenario is that one of their species survives but just barely. She wants the bloodshed to end on both sides and is here to beg for the end of the cycle of vengeance between them.

The war lasted for decades. Admiral douglas didn't live to see it's ending. His sucessor, Admiral Laura Grant, was the one to order the glassing of the last Yaderan-occupied planet, causing the race to go extinct, within the following two weaks, as the remaining ships of the Yaderan fleets were taken out one by one. No call for surrender was accepted, or even responded to. Other species had offered to come to aid the Yaderans, or shelter their refugees. Every time they did, the Humans glassed two of their worlds, told them to surrender and hand over any Yaderan refugees they shelter, or share the fate of that species, or share their fate. Most backed down. And those who didn't, were hunted until they were extinct or surrendered unconditionally. Out of the 4 species that stood by the Yaderans, only the Vakhulan outlived them, to find themselves enslaved by the Humans, and used for labor in asteroid mines. Their militaries disolved entirely, their governments forced to bow to human law, they were allowed to keep their planets, in exchange for a 30% cut of their entire planetary economic output, and manpower for the asteroid mines, to mine out the metals and minerals to build even more warships, even more planet-busters...
The peace-treaty between Humanity and the Galactic Council, after the extinction of the Yaderans, quickly summarized and simplefied, ammounts to this: Humans get all the planets, resources and technology from the Species they defeated, no longer respond to Galactic Council Law, and the council promises to never again turn down a formal Demand from Humanity, no matter how ridiculous, and if a Member of any species ever fucks with Humans again, Humanity has the right to wipe that species from the stars.
Or to summarize it even further: "You fuck with us, fuck you and die"
Yeah, the aliens ships were undetected until they were already over planets, and everybody has orbital bombardment tech. The war lasts 3 weeks, over 50% of humanity’s planets crippled beyond the ability to aid in the war within the first 6 hours. Douglas, having responded to the news of the attack by wasting invaluable time talking to the empty grave set up for his son, was summarily shot by his lieutenant as the casualty reports began coming in. Though Grant didn’t know it, he’d have reached for his own sidearm and done the deed himself if she hadn’t been faster. The aliens plan to goad an idiot who never should have been given command of so much as a bus to as a complete success. The galactic council mourned as a race they could not stop from waging a justified total war (after all, the humans had just killed far more than a few children, to the point that the total number of human children killed to this point could be considered a rounding error of the larger number) annexed the entirety of human territory and gained massive amounts of reasources… and an abundant source of food. The council now had a very real risk of being subsumed entirely as their most dangerous member grew beyond the power of any to control. Scholars believe that over-reliance on AI had eroded human judgement in the millennia before the total war, explaining how somebody as easily fooled and impulsive like Douglas was ever given a command.
So humanity became remembered as the doom of the galaxy. “HFY” became a popular meme on the Galactic Wide Web. “Humanity, fuck you.”

If the bugs wanted to win, to truly defeat humanity, they should just ignore them. One world gone, big deal, bugs don't care about eggs. The empress could have broadcasted to the galaxy that the scientist was acting alone, even if he wasn't, and that the bugs are willing to offer peace.
See, that would really piss humans off. No war to vent their anger AND it shifts the moral high ground to the bugs, if humans attack they'll be seen as the bad guys. Humans NEED that moral high ground to justify their atrocities, otherwise they go limp as a wet noodle lol.

Yeahhh, so this guy went and started a war with another race, and somehow doesn't get court marshaled. He also somehow gets to dictate to the galactic council what 'deal' humanity is willing to cut. Did the writer forget to mention that Douglas is the Emperor of Earth or something?
Worse. The fact that he got the recon assignment despite the obvious conflict of interest speaks to a hideous amount of politicking and influence peddling in a starfaring navy. And he even has time to play marine.
@@sablevoi would suggest looking into the US war with the barbary pirates and how the president at the time put his finger on the scales by sending a 1700's version of a diss track to the pirates leader.
It’s obvious to actual human readers (though probably not to the ai that wrote this) that the scientist COUNTED on Douglas being this predictable. He knew he was coming, yet a single ship is there to defend an apparently high value target. The “they didn’t think anybody would do it” doesn’t track because they knew somebody who would. This was a juicy bait to justify a total war, what with the humans having genocided far more children then they ever did. That’s why he’s completely nonplussed through the whole thing and why the invasion has already begun. It’s going according to the aliens plan.
And the idiot who the aliens could easily predict just got put in charge, and while worlds burn under attack by ships undetected until they were already in human space, he wastes time jerking off over his dead sons empty grave, the absolute shithead.
Public orders and REAL orders are two different things, You don't send a stealth battleship ship full of aggrieved parents to "Recon" the species that tortured their children to death. The Recon mission "orders" was a psyop to achieve surprise.
Disappointed no part 2 conclusion. If they are going to be like this I will quit watching and subscribing.
