Billy can you do a video on what settings to use to make DR run the render cache part of fusion quicker, i do limited fusion in clips but it still takes ages on my M1 Macair. I dont understand how to set up and use proxy, optimised, half re playback etc. Think it would be a popular video.

Hi I just bought the hp computer all in one model 27 cb0244 and I download the free version of DaVinci resolve 18.5 I trying to edit a video from my gopro 11 that is recorded in 4k and the video stopped every 5 seconds do you think this is a good computer to edit videos on this app DaVinci 18.5 from gopro camera in 4k

I downloaded DaVinci Resolve 18 for Windows today after watching another video of yours. A message came up on my screen "Unsupported GPU Processing Mode" which I have no idea what it means. So then I click on 'Update Configuration' and I don't know what I am supposed to do. Can you help please???

Nice video and if I used Davinci Resolves I'd totally sub, but I've seen the interface, it's hella different from Premiere and I'm not interested in learning new software after Vegas Pro and Premiere. But good video.

One thing I'd like to add is, and it's kind of showing how much of a noob I am, don't forget to leave "overlapping video space" for the transition. I'm not sure why DVR needs them (the old Movie Maker 2012 is doing them without the overlapping need). So, to get better with DaVinci Resolve, I played around with a 60min video of a paddling trip I did in Lake Como and after I was done with all the cuts and some special effects, I tried to add simple transitions and... NOPE! Argh!!! "Why not" I asked but... stupid computer didn't answer me... B-WORD!!! So, I've decided to re-watch a bunch of DVR tutorials videos and figured out the overlapping thing. I lost about 3 days trying to understand my problem.
@Travelling Sebi. It has been a year since you commented so I hope you're still around. I have seen videos that mention the transition problem if you don't have overlap but I cannot get my head around that wording. Clips don't overlap. One clip ends and another butts up to it and starts. There is no overlapping if the 2 clips are on the same track. How do you film your videos to get the overlapping? And if Resolve refuses the transition, can you not just put an Adjustment Clip on the track above the join of the 2 clips and put your transition in the Adjustment clip? BTW, I know the Trim method to fix this, I just don't understand why it is necessary and why it fixes the problem. Trimming both clips doesn't add more space to the clips- it makes them even shorter. 🤔
@@jer3006 What I mean by "overlapping video space" is, while filming, I'm not waiting a beat after pressing the record button and waiting again before pressing the stop record button on the camera. I basically do the "ROLLING.... ACTION..." and the "CUT... STOP ROLLING..." at the same time. (hope this makes sense)
So then, when I go on DVR and try to add a transition between two clips, too often for my taste, it doesn't work so, I do the trimming trick and I have to cut stuff I don't want to cut.
But, I'll totally try your adjustment clip trick. I have never seen that one before. Everyone from Billy to Casey, Alex and Patrick only talk about trimming to fit in a transition, so, thank you for that one.Hopefully it will work for my footage.
@@travellingsebi Sebi, thanks. Ahh, you give me too much credit. I don't know that an Adj clip above a junction is all you need for a nonworking transition, I just think it ought to work. So what you mean by overlapping clips is, after a talking head stops talking, keep filming for 10 sec. of just-stand-there "dead" time. And for the next clip, hit record, stand there for 10 sec of dead time, then start talking. So the dead time of 10 sec at the end of clip 1 and the dead time of 10 sec at the beginning of clip 2 is what is needed to make transitions not get rejected by DR? That doesn't make sense. How does DR know when there is or is not dead time on 2 clips? Why doesn't DR just slap the transition on there anyway? Or is it because one of the clips just simply isn't long enough for the transition to fit its length on the clips? No, that can't be it or trimming the clips would just make it worse. Sadly, I just don't understand the physical reason why trimming clips solves the problem of the 2 clips being too short for the transition to fit. I just don't understand the issue, argh, argh, argh!

Couldn't wait to get back into editing. So after watching you.. I bought a great laptop to edit with..dell xp 15.
But.. DV resolve 17 free version downloaded and failed to work. Says make sure cpu set to direct (I think). I ticked that box. But it says something about the screens being mixed.?
I tried the 16 version and again wouldn't work.?
I have 16 free version on my other laptop, so i transferred by USB stick.. worked..but can't see the video.. only sound.
Loosing the will to carry on.. spent a lot of money.. and can't try befor I buy resolve?
Does your video card meet the minimum specs? Resolve works very well (aside from tons and tons of crashes) so this is not a typical problem.

@@simonjacksparrow No, the paid version functions the same. If the free one doesn't work, the paid one won't either. I would fully uninstall Resolve then load again. There could also be a computer issue that might be resolved (hehe) by reinstalling Windows. I had an issue where Fusion didn't work at all and reinstalling Windows solved it.

How hard was it for you to become a freelance editor
Well, i have been learning editing for years. So I made the decision to start pursuing it as a career and just went for it. The hardest part about freelance is the inconsistency of work. So I wanted to make sure I had clients who paid every month. So the only kind of clients who do that are youtubers/podcasters. So I started editing for youtubers and also doing their video optimization. The more success they had, the more clients I got. What set me apart is that I knew how youtube worked. So I could help my clients in every part of the process. I was doing that while I was making this channel. We still have 3 clients as of right now. We used to have 7. They would pay every month for their services. We were fair to ourselves with their prices. Of course in the beginning we had to do work for less, because we wanted a reputation. But it got to a point where we didnt need the clients and if we were gonna take on another one, they were gonna pay. Right now we are trying to make this youtube thing happen, so its a bit more rocky, but its good :)
