No exaggeration Darren, that walkthrough video changed everything for me. I never found that type of intro with Premiere, so I had a hacky utilitarian knowledge. Starting fresh with DVR via your video was a totally different experience. Thank you so much!
Appreciated. Thank you and good luck on your journey with resolve. You wont regret leaving premiere!
That's how the Color page should be explained to beginners! When I was starting with Davinci Resolve (and editing) last year, I was really intimidated by the Color tab. The term 'graded' seemed so pro and advanced that I didn't even want to think about that... But after about a month of learning and working on my first video, I gave it a go, watched some of your tutorials and... the Color Page is actually very well designed and when you grasp the basics, the grading is a LOT of fun and really powerfull finishing part of any edit. So to all my fellow Beginners > Don't be afraid! Watch some of Darren's tutorials and you'll be surprised how quickly you will be able to improve your videos.
Glad to hear you are getting on with DaVinci resolve Color!
One of my lecturers told me about your content and I'm so glad he did, there's some really good stuff that has expanded my knowledge as well as some nice overviews of what I already know to act as a refresher. I've made it a routine to come and watch some stuff before I tackle any big projects. Thanks for doing what you do, your channel is the perfect resource.
Working my way through the tabs. I love how concise your videos are!
Been using Resolve for over a year now. Watched a lot of Casey Faris to get me started. Your videos have are just as easy to follow and they have changed the way I do things for the better.
Loving these short walk throughs as I can refer back to them quickly, some people rattle through ‘how to’s’ far too quick to follow, this is clear and well paced.
pleased to hear.
Great Video,Easily Over-stood And Informative. Thank You
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant, Darren. Your videos are the first ones I watch on CZcams when I come to the website, and this video only confirms why.
Really appreciated Daniel.
Hi Darren thanks for the great explanation of nodes and the basic tools I finally understand how they work
Thank you very much! You distilled the important and essential tools needed when starting out.
I know a bit about Davinci, but your contributions deepen my knowledge. That is important. Looking forward to more videos!
Just one tip from watching this video has taken my video editing to the next level! THANK YOU!
Great to hear! Enjoy!
Which tip?

I hope that one day I meet you and say thank you❤️❤️
Good to hear from you Stanley! Hope you are well my friend. Look forward to the day we meet too...you were one of the first subscribers!!!

Thank you so much for all of this brilliant content. It has made resolve a lot clearer while I've been learning it and I've finally had the confidence to release my first documentary on CZcams. Thank you again.
Great to hear! So pleased you tried Resolve,.
Your channel is a gem. Thx sooo soooo much!!
Thank you. Appreciated,.
Thanks a lot for doing these videos and share your work !
My pleasure!
Seriously you are the only person on CZcams that can explain colour grading in such a straight forward way that can be understood. Too many others go through things way too fast to try and understand for a newbie.
I’ve been struggling with getting my colours right with iPhone Dolby Vision HDR videos and they always look washed out and flat. Any tips on how to set up my project correctly for this and get it looking good for HDR video for CZcams? Thanks
This is the best tutorial. Thank you for breaking it down basics.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much Darren. This was so helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic! So helpful! Wished I'd have seen this kind of video when I first started DVR. Many thanks for your patience with newbs.
You're welcome! More Newbs stuff coming - I also have a beginners playlist. czcams.com/play/PL6VNHhfsVYJawp385IIyLemQL_ZBzgN_5.html
I'm a complete newbie and sooo thankful I found your tutorial on my first date with Davinci Resolve! Finally a compact and easily understandable overview of the basics. Thank you so much!
you are very welocome and enjoy Resolve!
I prayed to the universe for a mentor for color grading and here I am. lots of love and appreciation.
appreciated!
very nicely explained.....great advice on nodes, they are an "idea" you have...try it and if dont like you can turn off or re-set without affecting your other "ideas".
bravo! great teachin thank you!
You're very welcome!
Thanks a lot for valuable Content.❤
very welcome!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of Davinci Resolve. You make things look much more comprehensive for a beginner in the Color Panel. You are my go to reference when it comes to Davinci Resolve.
You're very welcome Richard. Thanks for kind words!! Enjoy your journey with Resolve!! Darren

That was the best 13:23 of my life. Well, almost! Thanks!
Thank you Darren 🍻
You are welcome Aniruddha
This was extremely helpful. The color grading page is a little intimidating for newbie’s like myself. Looking forward to viewing your other Davinci Resolve videos.
enjoy! there are well curated playlists Ive created that are kept up to date. Enjoy my channel. Thx
great video fro me as a starter
Thanks . I am a pharmacist and enjoying video editing for family stuff and very basic editing but I like learning and know about possibilities... I have heard/work with the most complex dosing schedules for patients being discharged after multiple organ transplant. But never heard about a node. Pretty cool. Good teaching style.
Glad it helped - wish you all the best. darren
This is fantastic content. I've watched loads of your content but sometimes get lost in some technical lingo. This was perfect for my ability level. Would love a playlist / course / syllabus of your content on which order to follow your videos in 😊
glad you enjoyed. click on the link here for masterclass updates bit.ly/2RrjvpN - new masterclass coming in 2024! Playlist is up to date - check channel for that!
Thank you very much
Very nice beginner instructional video! I’m not new to video editing, but I am new to DaVinci Resolve. Some of the other sections were easier to learn, but the color page was a little more intimidating. Not anymore! Thanks Sir!

You're very welcome!
Brilliant!
thanks
Thank you Darren...
Very welcome.
Excellent
Thanks again, what an absolute awesome video, Im already to this point, I want to go deep down to all these color page scary graphs and etc, do you have another video which explains these options in more detail.
Excellent!
Your approach makes it easy to understand the complicated stuff, thanks Darren.
And don't be shy to make other videos with that same approach, there are probably other intimidating areas in Resolve that would need a clear, simple and to the point explanation / demystification, and that would be of great help to new users. Thanks again! :o)
.
Thanks Ben. Yes I got asked a lot. Will continue to mix between more advanced and beginners as plenty for everyone then!
@@DarrenMostyn Sounds like a win-win situation! You'll get more beginners on your channel with those intro videos, then they'll get better and watch your more advanced videos! I Will be watching those videos in the coming months. Music composer here who's been into photo/video also, and I purchased Resolve Studio to make videos of my music. Your tutorials will be of great help to me! Keep-up the good work!
Thanks, Darren - for demystifing DaVinci Resolve for us. Much appreciated. Love your content, and greetings from the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 :D
Glad it was helpful! Thank you of kind words.

New sub from Belgium here. Thanx
Thanks for the sub bad frank! Always grateful!
Hey, really love Your content on colorgrading, great stuff! I really wish You would make monitor calibration tut with calman in resolve (with x-rite calibrator or similar). There are some videos about it but often times "teacher" dont know half of the settings etc. So i suspect i have some settings wrong and my monitors calibration is not the best it could be. But ofc display cal calman has got not the easiest settings to understand. All the best!
Newish user here, L Plates flapping.... both of these newbie vids have been great - thank you.
Glad you like them Martin. Appreciate the feedback as trying to deliver what people want (aswell as what I want to deliver!).
Although I have been working in Davinci for quite some time and feel comfortable in the color page, I learned a new shortcut for applying a grade to another clip! 😊
Great to hear!
Thanks man.
No problem Dave!!
Thank you I just watched the beginning. I have been working for the past two years with film pro which now is a piece of crap I bought the lifetime subscription that no longer exists. Anyways, I am going to switch over after watching your video and I just want to thank you and I’ll probably be watching a lot of your videos learning. Thanks thanks again have a wonderful weekend. What’s left of it and I guess I will see you in the next video.
Welcome over to Resolve. You wont regret it. All the best, darren
Nicely demystifying, nodally speaking.
Glad it worked my friend! See you in a few weeks!!!
thank you
Great stuff Darren! I’ve been dabbling with colorgrading for the past year and its crazy that there’s still so much to learn! Question: how do you determine when you should use layer nodes and parallel nodes? Are they not similar?
Thanks. Not a quick answer to that one - it's more deep than how most people explain it!! Ill do a video one day!
Thanks!
Thank you - thats very kind. Glad my tips working for you!! Appreciated! All the best, darren
@@DarrenMostyn You're welcome Darren. THANK YOU for sharing your expertise, professionalism and joy for this art form!
@@WindTreeStudios means a lot. Thank you.
Mostly on the strength of your videos, I downloaded DaVinci Resolve. I've already done a little test video of footage I shot in FLog2. I can't get over how much more intuitive the workflow is compared to Premiere Pro! I took the same footage I used to create the video in Premier Pro and the process was much faster, from editing to color grading to creating output.
I've been toggling between your videos and my test project and it has been really helpful! I'm concentrating on basics now, but look forward to using more advanced techniques like tracking. I'm thinking of going to Studio just to buy the package with the quick edit panel, though just using the keyboard seems fast and easy.
BTW, since you do broadcast work, my introduction to editing was in 1968. I was hired by a local television station to run audio on weekend news broadcasts as my high school job. They quickly added processing and editing news film to my tasks. I've since done both editing projects at my design school and also some directing and non-linear editing for instructional videos at a medical school. Now I just have fun!
Thanks youtube for bringing me here and thanks for the great video
Aww - thats a great quote - thank you , means a lot!
You help alot, I was lost om the colors on davinsin resolve
Thanks
