    Thanks for tips. One hint: Render in Place DNxHR SQ also supports alpha channel (at least on Windows), so it might be a good compromise to choose without the need to switching between LB and HQ all the time. Or at least space saver for all transparent items.

    I am brand new to video editing, so please go easy on me if I ask a stupid question. I had a laptop that wasn’t sufficient for editing, but before I knew that I was doing a lightsaber video from a tutorial in davinci resolve 17. I had no issues until it came time to render. Fast forward and I got a new desktop that has the necessary requirements to edit. The version of resolve was 17.44 but when I use the polygon tool to create my saber exactly as I did on my laptop with the previous version of resolve 17, it creates the effect in every single frame of the video instead of just where I added

  • @LaszloParkanyi
    @LaszloParkanyi Před 2 lety +2

    If you have timeline(s) with lots of "Render In Place" clips (that are huge), is it a problem when archiving the project? What I do is apply "Decompose to Original" before creating an Archive project to save disk space. When using Render in Place I change also the clip color so that pre-rendered clips stand out from the rest.

    • @HikingWithCooper
      @HikingWithCooper Před 2 lety

      Good question. There are so many issues with archiving. I can literally never get past the first asset before it errors out. Apparently you can't archive a project if it has a still image?? Would be great to see an archiving video that works through the issues rather than just showing it done when everything works the first time. Hint hint, Billy LOL.

    • @LaszloParkanyi
      @LaszloParkanyi Před 2 lety

      @@HikingWithCooper I have had no problems with still images in archived projects so far... Resolve's archiving method is great.

    • @HikingWithCooper
      @HikingWithCooper Před 2 lety

      @@LaszloParkanyi Oh I agree. It is very impressive. Both projects I've attempted to archive have errored out at the very first asset. The research I've done has indicated that this is not uncommon. I'm hopeful that someone will do a video on working through those errors

  • @kukukachu
    @kukukachu Před 2 lety

    You were right, this was actually really useful. I'm surprised you didn't say to pick the H.265 option as that has been the best method of rendering for me. If I do it in any other way, I get weird artifacting when exporting. I guess this could be different because it is rendering in Davinci, but I don't know.

    All this ("Saver" node, "Auto Domain" node, render in place, etc) look like things that could and should be automatically handled by DaVinci, as opposed to manual chores for the editor...

    • @BillyRybka
      @BillyRybka  Před 2 lety

      Not really, the saver can take a lot of time to render and you don't want to render something that isn't finished yet. So if it was automatic then you would waste a ton of time

  • @josefbures4583
    @josefbures4583 Před 2 lety

    Hey thanks for the tips. I usually have auto caching transintions set for the project... That works great for me and I don't have to think about rendering anything in place at least for the transitions of course. Cutting those little bits around the transition in case I wanna change something later in the whole clip later on doesn't seem to be the smoothest solution to me. The other tips are awesome. Love your work. Thanks again.

    The saver and loader are definitely something I'm gonna try moving forward. Thanks. I've been trying with the proxy and auto proxy and those have done nothing to improve my performance. Maybe it's a bug.

    • @Bearleii_Sober
      @Bearleii_Sober Před 2 lety

      Update: tried using the saver node thing but the render time was extremely long. It was going to take 5 hours to render a less than 20 second comp. If I render the whole project, it takes an hour. Basically, I can render the entire project 5 times in the time that it takes the saver nodes to render.

  • @kropjesla01
    @kropjesla01 Před 2 lety

    the second tip is very usefull for me, although untill now I used multible timelines in a project. a complex clip with lots of processing would have its own timeline. I then render this clip en bring it in the overall timeline that just does cuts and stuff... this is in a way a workaround. but last year i had a project with lots of rotoscoping (like 30 layers) that might have been better with the "save" node!

    • @BillyRybka
      @BillyRybka  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh man, 30 layers of rotoscoping 🤮 That sounds PAINFUL! Id utilize a tool like RunwayML for rotoscoping, its way faster and it doesnt make me hate my life 😂😂 Yes the Saver node would For sure help with that!

    problem ive had for two weeks now: yknow how when you press play while editing, fusion effects render a bit funky depending on what ur doing, but then once you let it prerender its fine? that happens, but when i export it looks funky the same way it does when it hasnt prerendered. thoughts, my g?

    • @BillyRybka
      @BillyRybka  Před 2 lety

      So if it pre-renders weird, odds are you just need to move it and it will cache again. Also you can just render in place so that you can see what the completed effect will be without all the lag.

    • @itsrainingnans2187
      @itsrainingnans2187 Před 2 lety +1

    Hey Billy! Was curious when it came to the Auto Domain node. That definitely helps when you're within the Fusion comp, but if you look at the Media Out node in the viewer, it still retains the resolution of your timeline when working in Resolve. Is there any way around that, or is it the one bit of extra rendering we have to be okay with after we've cut away the rest of the fat?

  • @sinyx.3525

    Hey Billy! I just have a quick question. Normally when you move the red playback line with the mouse, the soundtrack plays the sound in the speed with which you move the playback. Weirdly my Davinci Resolve doesn't do this anymore. Do you know if there is any option to turn this on and off? Maybe I accidently hit a key bind I don't know about. Hope you can help :)
