As an old Ford parts manager I have sold a lot of parts for these. What a great looking truck. Thanks for sharing.
Are there parts still available for them from Ford?
They're NEVER complete. A Highboy truck is like a good marriage, you work on them and try to improve them until the day you die. It's a labor of love. Nice job, by the way!
Gorgeous truck, thanks for sharing it with us.
Sweet ride! I was hoping they'd talk more about the build. Since the body was placed on a different 4x4 chassis, peeps like hearing about the details!
Sorry, Maybe next time
They don't talk about the build because they didn't build it....they bought it like that
That is a beautiful F250 nice job guys!!!
They never made a 427 "cobra jet". Those were 428's, later 429s and even a 351C CJ.
It’s a shame to hear a fellow Ford guy say stuff like that isn’t it? The 427 is awesome enough as it is but to hear someone call it a CobraJet just kills it
Yeah.....a fair amount of confusion concerning the Ford 427 FE (Ford Edsel) V8 engines. Maybe the confusion comes from the 427 FE V8 being used in the Cobra cars. In addition, the 427 FE was later equipped with the SOHC heads. Lot going on with the Ford 427 FE engine. The Ford 427 FE V8 engines were possibly the most awesome and powerful V8 gas engine ever produced, including the Chrysler 426 Hemi V8 and the Chevrolet 427 V8.The Ford 429 V8...quite different with O-Ring seated heads.
Had a '72 F-250; wore the 360 out, put in a 460, wore it out then converted it to diesel with a 4-53 detroit and a 2 speed aux (direct and 30% over) box. Best truck ever; sure wish I still had it.
I had a 1970 hi boy with a 428 out of a 1968 mustang some dude put in it before me. When I got it the motor was shot but when I looked into getting it rebuilt a guy offered me a couple grand for the block cuz it was rare so I traded it for a long block 390 and a reman C6 trans. I loved that truck, we had some great times together and went through a lot of shit but eventually the gas bill was killing me! I sold her and not a day goes by that I don’t miss her. 😦
That is badass, keep up the good work man.
Great job!, hope I get my 67 like that!.
My favorites truck of all time .
That truck is badass!, cant wait to get mine done!, Good video!.
Did anyone else notice the smoke coming from the steering column at 5:21? Awesome truck! I’ll have one someday.
I thought maybe he had a cigarette...then noticed the red wire peeking out....i had a similar experience happen in a ford Explorer for a few seconds, then disappeared and never happened again....he's got a nice version of a highboy anyhow.
Yes, noticed that as well.
That was a great find. Nice up grade on very beautiful Truck that the look of a reginal.
Amazing Ford 4x4 truck.
Beautiful
Best looking truck on CZcams
If you think about axle swap , mite consider the 1978-79 dana 44 , 60 or 70's , comes with anchor posts for front and rear anti sway bars
have u ever seen a factory tilt wheel for one of the 67/72 fords and power steering, power beaks, ac tach in dash full cluster , roses etched in the interior trim, cruise control , wiper delay all the parts bolt right in a 70 3/4 ton high boy. i got a 70 class c motor home with a 428 bad c-6 trans and it came with all these parts for my 250 dollar rust free 70 highboy with dana 60/80 lockers tool box on side has a good clean body and a 390 in it that i traded for it with a free car that i had.plus my truck has full chrome trim and is a ranger. one thing it is rare because it has the tool box on side with out the camper special package
What type/size tires/wheels were on this beast; it looked great!
Great looking truck is had a 71 for a bit back in the 90s not all beat up but needed alot , a bit more then I could throw at er. With that said I'd want to think the ultra low gearings
In that thing I can't see the 429 being beneficial. Mine was stick had a 400
From a stang even that was alot for that. 4.56 finals.
Awesome truck guys. I've been looking for similar truck lately due to Wheel taxes being implemented in Wisconsin. Collector plates only one-time fee. My current truck sits most of the time anyway so I figured why not find a classic and give the state the middle finger, since they are triple taxing me for owning a hybrid car.
Make sure to see what you can do with whichever plate you get. The state police here love to pull over vehicles doing something you shouldn't with different plates. Depends on if they're antique, collectors, vintage, restricted etc. If you want a daily driver, I'd make sure to get a regular plate from your DMV. All the others have restrictions. Sure you pay a one time fee, but you can't take it to the store to get bread neither. Just double check for your own sanity later on. 👍
Nice 250!
Cool truck !!!!!
Seems pretty rare for a highboy to have an automatic at that time. I think the majority had manual transmissions.
Sweet
That looks good
I think so too
Is that smoke coming from his steering column at 5:17?
That's a damm nice truck, although if it were mine it would have a manual transmission, possibly a BW T5/T55 and bigger exhaust.
I also like the Jeep in the background because I have a 1973 Jeep J4000.
The automatic is a turnoff. And a definite no from me. C-6 sucks
Most highboys from this era had manual transmissions, so this is kind of rare.
I wanna see the blue Ford behind it and a video
guys, can we get into specific steering parts you used from the end of the drive shaft to the actual axle? I'm getting really lost in my build and was wondering. I heard you say pitchfork steering or something like that.
I like but I won’t subscribe because you never posted my extremely rare 1/6 only made in Brazil only SR Country 67/72 Bumpside Bronco with factory turbo diesel, intercooler and Dana 44 and 5 speed Clark transmission. Cool truck indeed .
South Australia 🇦🇺
Great looking truck. So glad the Ford nation is out there. Only Ford guy's i have is on here. My buddies all Chevy only🙈
we are growing brother
I has never ceased to amaze me how most people get so biased over a particular automotive manufacturer (brand) instead of analyzing each individual model and intended purpose and use of the vehicle. You are on the "right side of the fence" when it comes to light duty 4WD trucks. Your buddies simply do not understand. Their truck preference is probably clouded and overshadowed by their engine preference.
Tell your friends the following information. I understand why so many guys like Chevrolet trucks...most likely because they like the Chevrolet gas engines. I like those engines too, but I cannot stand most all of the Chevrolet 4WD and GMC 4WD trucks, except for the 1967 - 1972 model years, and maybe the 1964 - 1966 trucks.
The only good Chevrolet 4WD and GMC 4WD trucks were called "Action Line" and built from 1967 - 1972. Why? Because it is the only GM pickup truck body style with round wheel wells to fit a round rim and round tire. This is important on 4WD trucks to maximize the balance of large tires with minimum to moderate lift to maintain a very good "center of gravity".
GM never built crew cab trucks 1972 and older. The first crew cab came in 1973.
Tell your friends to go Chevrolet / GMC truck shopping here ------>

In the early 1970's GM engineers designed the "Square Body" trucks, 1973 being the first model year of production. The square / rectangle wheel wells for a round rim and tire placement was and still is the proverbial "round peg in a square hole". This design greatly handicaps the installation and use of large tires without increased suspension lifts, thus compromising the "center of gravity". Cutting the fenders and wheel well openings to install larger tires ruins the already poor aesthetics of the truck.
In 1988, GM engineers further handicapped the off-road capability of their 4WD trucks by using IFS axle (poor axle articulation / wheel travel); low stance (poor approach, departure and breakover angles); low hanging frame rails (can cause the truck to "high center" / teeter totter on uneven terrain off-road).
In short, with the exception of a few model years, virtually ALL Chevrolet 4WD and GMC 4WD trucks have very poor off-road capabilities...actually have pathetic performance on uneven terrain off-road compared to Ford 4WD and Dodge (Ram) 4WD trucks.
On the race track, I like a mean 1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro, especially the ZL1 version with aluminum block / heads racing engine, but would not kick the L72 cast iron block heads to the curb. That said, I would still opt for the Ford 427 FE V8 in a 1967 - 1968 Mustang. The newer Camaros and Mustangs...I would choose the 2014 - 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 with the 7.0L engine. That car with superior suspension system has more potential than the 2016+ Ford Mustangs.
I have a name for that truck,Ridin the storm out
How much, I really do love it
What brand and spec hydraulic roller cam does it have? What brand aluminum heads?
I like to have it
What size lift is on it?
Why would you need to lift a highboy
What brand, size tires? Are those factory steel wheels?
I would love to know that as well!
The additional lift was just absolutely dumb....
Dana 44 front axel with lift blocks.... I know how it drives and That is not very well. That poor FE big block was so cold that it could barely drag its self around the block. Get new leafs and bushings. Reinforce the shackles with a bead of weld and get rid of those lift blocks. Then tell me how it drives...... Dana 44 are cheaper to rebuild then superduty axels
There was never a 427 made that would just barely pull itself around, you must be thinking it still has a 360 in it😆.... hell the best Street Stock engine we ever ran in the Sled Truck was a Ford 427, back in its day that truck was untouchable. It’s a 1970 CrewCab F250 with a 4spd and a 428 now, the 428 isn’t half the engine that 427 was though
@@warrenmcelroy4718 them FE big blocks do not preform till they are warm. So much damage happens when they start and go. Always let big engines warm up and idle down. Especially FE CT agricultural engines with the larger 1 and 1\16 crankshaft. I imply that it didn't have power till it was warm. I didn't say nothing bad about our flagship ass whoopper the 427 FE. Yes I said OUR because you must bleed FORD blue just like me too leave a comment like that. And it took a FE CT "side oiler" 427 to build the cammer engine that Shelby and the FO MO CO race team loved so much. Just trying to imply to them kids to let it warm up! You sure can't tell em what to do these days now can you?
Where did you see front lift blocks??? He said Atlas springs and ADS shocks.
Put it in the mud see what it can do ..😁
That's all I want is an older nice truck I don't want to buy no new ones no more they're just too much money and they build them like s***
and you couldn't afford an extra gun of paint to spray inside the box?? The rest of it's great
He said original patina.
