well i mean mods are the only reason CS1 was good as well. I couldn't play it vanilla without vomiting.
Modders were the reason why I have 2700 hours+ in CS1 rather than about 50, thinking CS2 would be any different makes no sense.
As an old mapper many moons ago i just wanna weigh in that those "runny" decals with a sharp edge are usually used on walls, simulating grime from years of fluid running down it, usually rain. Of course you can use it wherever it would look good, i've used it along the edge of roads in the past.

oh, after a long time, biffa is back on CS2
I wish one of the first mods we get is a “blueprints” mod where you can save a modded/ asseted building or road system to a folder and reuse it in other maps as a prefabbed building- so you don’t need to custom make that med clinic every time
That's sort of how the editor used to work in the first one, hopefully with some work the new editor will have similar capabilities.
Its crazy how much of a difference being able to add detail makes to the way the cities look and feel. I truly do hope that the community is able to fix what should honestly be up to the developer. thank you for the video Biffa you are truly the one!!

I love the dirrrty dirrrty decals! The potholes especially look surprisingly realistic for something just pasted onto the surface, the leaky dumpsters are great, and I think you did a decent job of hiding the straight edge on some of the road stain decals. Using the beach/sand textures to create wasteland is really nice too, those little dusty triangles of road on the roundabout, and the reservations/islands on the approach, all look really detailed and like you'd expect to see in real life. I remember when this kind of detailing was something you'd never really done before and the first few times you tried it, and you've just got more and more skilled at it over the years, considering CS2 is still only just getting support for some of this stuff this is really awesome :)

Wow this is just amazing !!! I sometimes forget to do fine detailing while playing ! Being a newbie, imLearning the first city skylines remastered game on ps5at the moment ! But on my next map I will take it slow and detail everything I put in my city! The PC version is astonishing what you can do! 👍 I just unlocked Airport lol 👍😁

Looks great. I decided for myself that I return to the game when CO implements all the things to get even with CS1...like you said, I don't want to loose everything because official assetsupdate crashes everything. Modders clearly show how CO should have done the job in the first place...?
These mods finally give me hope. Once ploppable surfaces come into play i’ll be back on it

12:46 The slightly curved arrow (immediately to the left of the TAXI BUS decal) is something I've always wanted to see used to indicate two lanes merging into one, e.g. at a motorway slip road. I'd put those all over my city if I was playing 😅 Also the giant Yorkshire Tea 'poster' will be excellent if you can find an empty billboard prop/asset to stick it on! (Or even a billboard with an existing poster, if you can just paste Yorkshire Tea on top of it?)
Your custom built roundabout would be called a rotary or a traffic circle here across the pond in the States, Biffa! 🙂
Hey Biff, I wanted to point out another use for some of the stain details you showed off at 15:30 , you can use the grime stripes under ledges on buildings to show some of the staining that naturally happens over time from rain pouring off a surface. so under a windowsill or a balcony some of those vertical grime stains could really age the building.

I had an idea while watching this. What if you did a city build based around your Manor Lords build. The name of the town may have changed over the years, but there are still some historical sites left over scattered about or some of the original road layout remains in the old downtown area. Would be an interesting watch.
A crossover between one of the best games, and one that can perhaps, maybe, (with some elbow grease), be in that list too? yes please.

The dirt decals are a great idea. It almost feels like you don't OCD much when detailing :p 😂

Hey Biffa, awesome video. I want to ask though, at 2:20, when buldozing the poster slowly disappeared until you moved the camera. this happens to me very often, not just when buldozing, rather when leaving something on the screen for a few seconds. Is there a way to disable that? I didn't play CS2 in a month or so, and I don't think it happened before. Thank you!
DLSS was recently added and that can caause it. Also TAA :-)

There’s a 100% chance that Paradox monetises mods. Why else would they go through the cost of development and hosting. Subscription model incoming.
No they won't. They've said won't and that would 100% kill the game and Colossal Order. It's just a rumour started on reddit you can ignore 😉
Yeah no, the community backlash would be enormous. They make plenty of money seeing what assets are popular and then selling us packs, since not everyone wants to spend hours building and curating their mod list, and there's plenty of console players who can't get mods.
The only thing I've seen here today that I would use is the replacement for TMPE. That was a must-have. I never used decals in CS1, although some might be nice. The fence tool is nice, too, but not necessary. I'm not a detailer.

I've installed those mods, but I'm not sure where to get all the decals and things to import with the extra assets importer. Maybe (very good possibility) that I'm not doing it right.
They are also on pdx mods. Once your sub to them the game will automatically import them 👍

Yes, you can use parallel on any networked asset: hedges, fences, road lines, bus lanes... very useful if you've drawn a custom carpark with an access lane: set the parallel, draw a solid white line (or whatever your flavour of preference) and you'll have both sides marked perfectly parallel. Same for drawing hedged in paths: parallel the hedge and put in your custom path.

I am a heavy detailer and I love what these modders have done, but the cities are still the same because we need the asset editor. For example if I want to build a UK city then that's impossible. This is definitely not everything detailers need, but is for sure a step forward.

it is really a shame that the game is so reliant on modders to get good. It is not like the developers didn't have the huge mod data base from CS1 to pick up from. And on top of that they charge you outrageous amounts for pitiful content addition. Paradox is just a big scam relying on free labor from modders

No, that's just the decals (or marrkings) you're removed :-)

Biffa, you finally get to do a round-about and you don't use the round-about markings. 🤔
Question: How would you rate this game against CS1 in its current state? I kinda want to buy this but 2h trial is not enough for these kinds of games. I heard assets are not officially supported yet so I'm not sure if fanmade intersections are available at all.

some of those bigger decals are probably meant for big american billboards. It would make sense why they're so huge. Is there a scaling option? I didn't notice.

I'm trying to get into this game but the grim color palette and hedges that look like old newspapers glued to a fence really put me off.
Still hopeful, but many more improvements are needed to make the whole thing a pleasant experience for me..
cities mods have always been top-notch, with integrated UI buttons and custom icons, nothing looks like it's not a part of the base game, it was a wasted opportunity to not consult modders during development.

They've said console is a 'maybe' for October. After the way the PC launch went I'm sure they will want to get it right and it will take as long as it takes.

I don't know how to explain it bus CS2 somehow looks less detailed that CS1 when all the way zoomed in. in particular the grass, it doesn't have the blades of grass that CS1 did
Love the base Detailing mod, but I started installing the added Extra packs like graffitti and my game would take forever to load the mods, which is strange. I might be installing it incorrectly.
They take a long time to import the decals etc on every load yeah 👍

Given they're about 150 miles apart that must be a very confusing roundabout for someone around the Barnard Castle area.

Sadly, i will continue to play cities one until cities 2 can work while looking better, with mods cities skylines just looks so much higher fidelity while being more smooth
