At the age of about 49, I've enjoyed potatoes my whole life. I mean, when I think about it, I actually really love potatoes. And lately when I eat potatoes, I end up analyzing the flavour, the savoury and sweet blend, the texture, and just the general awesomeness of potatoes. And now that I'm turning 50, I realize that I've really fucking loved potatoes my whole life but just never really thought about it in great detail. The same goes for Billy Duffy; this awesome musician and composer who just played a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. Not the whole soundtrack, but the potato-part: the steady, realiable, NEVER disappointing, tasty, savoury but still sweet, healthy parts of the soundtrack. Sure, there's been metal, death metal, technical metal, some blues, a lot of pop, electronica and a spot of country in my life too, but The Cult have always been there, ready to set things straight. Billy, you really are sorely underrated, but holy fuck you are loved!
Billy Duffy will forever be a God in my book! I have one of his signature Gretsch White Falcons which I ate bean soup and sandwiches for months to save up for and it has been worth EVERY penny!

Was re-learning old Cult songs on guitar recently, and I'm still impressed by Billy's innovative approach. So much more than simple power chords - lots of suspended chords, inversions, and passing notes. Just a really tasteful approach to ballsy rock guitar. One of my favorite players and a big inspiration for me as a guitarist.
Billy Duffy underrated? He is not underrated, he has a strong and respected name in the industry and amongst guitar players. These typical “underrated” coments in CZcams are quite disregarding

Saw Billy yesterday rockin' live with the Cult. Like his father was, he's also in construction - constructing R'n'R-masterclass. He would never allow his fans being disappointed about his playing, so he works his ass off every evening. Love his attitude.

Got his autograph decades ago at a club on the strip. Ian and Billy were there watching a band called “The Front”

Not many bands have more than 7 songs I love. Just seen these guys in Leamington Ontario. So glad I finally caught them. One of my favorite bands growing up.

Most rock guitar players just play major and minor chords and power chords (notable exceptions being Alex Lifeson and Queensryche). This guy does inversions, sus chords and add 9 chords. And he's melodic as hell. This dude is legit. Funny that he went from liking great music like Free and Queen to liking awful Punk music and became such a fantastic inventive and melodic player in spite of that.

It’s so weird to find out this man is not a God. You here him speak and he had similar life experiences that I had when I was a kid worshiping the cult and seeing all their shows. It makes you feel even more connected to the music than I was before if that’s possible.

I would love to know how he goes about integrating Native American-sounding melodies into the music they write. Things like ”ceremony”, “white”, “ sweet soul sister”… I can’t think of any other band that does that. Long Live The CULT
He’s a great storyteller as well. I never knew he was so articulate even though I’ve loved Love since its release. Great guitar-work I’ve enjoyed nearly all my life and will do so till I die. His description of Sanctuary being the gateway while Phoenix was a path to the future was poetic. I never knew they were learning as they went along. When Love came out I was fifteen and the album seemed birthed out from some unknown nirvana. Only now in my early fifties have I come to realize what a unique beast Love is. There’s nothing else out there like it. I always suspected Rubin was the culprit behind the absence of psychedelia on Electric! Edit: BTW, great video production!
Your right Rubin was the culprit, however there was a recording of the whole electric album done with all the psychedelic styling in it and it sounds beast ! Then they went with Rubin and he stripped down their whole sound , I like both versions although I’m more inclined towards the psychedelic recording personally 😊

I love Billy Duffy. I’ve been a fan since 1989 when fire fire woman was in the charts and I was 13 years old. The guy is so down to earth.
I was 14. Played the Sonic Temple cassette endlessly through 89 and 90. Easily one of the best rock albums from that time.
