Mount those scratchers to the inboard side of your skis. You will have to reverse sides, put the left scratcher on the right ski and vice versa. Mount the scratchers just ahead of your spindles so you can hook the carbides on top of the ski behind the spindle when not in use.The snow & ice will spray under the entire track especially on the front recurve of your rails where your sliders tend to wear out the most. This works far better than rail mounted scratchers by far. Ur group of riders have used this set up for years very successfully!
What is the difference between left and right? are the threads reversed one way vs the other?
Glad you found a spot to put them. I bought a pair of those, but they're still sitting in my shop - couldn't find a spot to mount them. I tried ski-mounted scratchers this year and were surprised at how well they work. They seem to put more stress on the plastic skis than I expected and I don't know if that will eventually damage the skis. However, they made a big difference in cooling temp.
You definitely need scratchers on these machines they tend to run hot on ice. They seem to work were I installed them.
Check out. One Rig Design. They sell a piece for your rail so you dont have to drill into it..
I mounted mine exactly where you did (the final location, not where you drilled them in the video) I had two people sit on the sled to bottom out the suspension and the torsion spring moves forward and hits the scratcher. Not sure this configuration will work when you land hard.
Another good one .
Thanks, are you still able to ride in Ontario?
Rock Ovitt unfortunately not where I usually ride . I have to trailer about 3.5 hrs to that region since I live in Southern Ontario ( Niagara Falls region) . Now I would have to trailer about 7 hrs to get to the open trails .
Doktor Dice Thats to bad, guess there’s always next season.
Rock Ovitt I haven’t ruled out a final 3 day trip to Quebec . 12 hr drive for me ... but with the craziness going on with the Covid situation I’m gonna be off work a few weeks anyway ... so I figured why not !!!!
Doktor Dice that’d be a good time to go if you have the time off. My work hasn’t shut down as of yet I guess only time will tell. If they do I’ll be putting some miles on!
Not everyone reads all the comments, you should have mentioned in the video that you moved the mounting location from where you drilled it. Not sure the final location will work with the suspension
Mine has been working for 2 year like that now and no issues.
Im just getting into snowmobiles, so I apologize for a dumb question, but what exactly is the "skid"? Looking to get some of these for my Indy LXT. I love the looks of your sled by the way.
@kdsberman The skid is basically the rear suspension assembly, pretty much everything you see in between the track.
Now if I’m not mistaken the LXT is a 550 fan cooled? If it is, the scratchers will not help cool down the engine temp. It will help lubricate the hyfax though, which is the plastic sliders that is on the bottom of the skid.
And thanks!
@@rockspowersports That is correct, it is a fan cooled. I was hoping to get the benefit of added lubrication and cooling of the sliders for times I go out on the ice when there isnt a lot of snow. Thank you for the help!!
@@kdsberman No problem, I think they will work good for your needs. I’m still using them and they have held up very well so far.
Your vid at like 2:35 shows a different spot of mounting? I bough Trail Blizzers and I think that have been a mistake, I cannot find a spot to work for two holes that I feel comfortable with
The first spot I drilled the scratchers were not digging In the ice enough. That’s why I moved them.
@@rockspowersports Ok, thank you for replying. I'm hoping the no-drill mounts from One Rig Design are compatible with Trail Blizzers
@@reesesalen5033 I’ve never tried them, hopefully they will work for you!
Should move to AK there Rock to rural AK youll get to ride everyday i put over 3,000+ miles every year on my snowmobiles
As much as I like snowmobiling I like running my wheelers in the summer here too.
@@rockspowersports i do the same year round
@Edward Abraham lll I’d like to visit Alaska some day for sure!
@@rockspowersports i ride ATVS all summer long and Snowmobiles all winter long im from a village of only 225 ppl everybody knows everybody an theres only 1 gravel road through the middle of my village theres only 1 truck in my village 2 or 3 utvs an all the rest are atvs an snowmobiles
