It helps so much to understand credit. I had great credit that was ruined by a sudden cancer diagnosis many years ago that left me unable to work for a long while. After slowly building back up after recovery, I can attest that it can be done, just as you say. I listen to you frequently and have saved so much on everything from insurance to food, still living a simple, frugal, and happy life.

I paid off my mortgage early, had no other debt, and because I paid it off and it closed my account my fico went down 60 points! Then my dog had emergency surgery so i applied and got a credit card to pay the $4000 (intrest free) and it went down another 40 points lol. I was just under 800 now I'm under 700 but no other debt, paid off on time. What the heck?! I swear they make up the rules as they go. I've already paid off 1200 in 2 months and it only raised my score by 6 points. Seriously you can't make this crap up.

I showed my daughter how to use the credit card 💳 as a debit card. She got a credit card when she was about 18 years old.. got approved for $500 limit. That’s plenty at that age. 😆 she has a great credit score and she is almost 22 years old. She is also debt free and is frugal too. Super proud of her. ❤

Banks won't lend for a small amount for a mortgage. They told me 30k minimum where some banks want 60k minimum mortgage. I had thought that I would borrow the 30k and first payment put 20 k right on it. The problem with this though is you have to pay the points and fees based on the 30k. In the end I just went for a cheaper house. I also piggy backed my son who refuses to get any kind of credit card. He now has excellent credit. My excellent credit score never helped me either but maybe for my son it may at some point.

Happened to my mother in law. Divorced a cheating husband who had been in business with both of their names on it. He filed bankruptcy and she got stuck with everything. Took her 10 long years to pay it off plus he never paid his child support for his 5 kids. Just moved away and lived with a sugar momma until she got sick of him and then he found another stupid woman to take him in. Some people are beyond irresponsible.

My approach has always been .. don't use that credit card UNLESS you ALREADY have the cash to back it up. If you don't have the cash.. Do NOT use the card.

Now I'm not going to play the credit "game" ever again. There's ZERO BENEFIT for responsible use. Credit and FICO are for people who have money and spend it regularly. Poor people will NEVER WIN.

Don't really understand how they come up with the scores, kind of seems random at times. I look at my score on Citi Visa that I have. The score fluctuates from 786 to 802, most of the time it's at 786. I pay the card off multiple times a month with no balance ever carried over. I own house free and clear, own older Toyota Corolla, only bills I have each month are utilities and other living expenses you generally can't get away from. I do get notice saying not enough information on loan payments paid or something to that effect. I don't need loans. I wonder why my numbers are always the same ones, been like that for years.

We own the house and both cars outright. We are currently saving for our next vehicle with the intent to pay cash, but since our 2011 van has only 60,000 miles on it we have plenty of time to save up the cash for it. The 2007 truck has a lot more miles, but I expect it will go another 50,000 and it is only used in town. Both are Toyotas so I am not really worried about breakdowns since we maintain them well. I figure maybe around 2030 or so we might need to buy a new vehicle, but we will keep saving until we actually do or they make us buy something electric. All that to say, I have no idea what we need a FICO score for. It is in the high 700's to low 800's. We have one credit card we pay off each month. On occasion I will do something 12 months same as cash or 18 months same as cash, but I always have the money in the bank for it, because that is something that boosts the credit score, but I still don't know why I need it.

Piggybacking still works however it's no longer as beneficial as it used to be. If you let someone piggyback off you, you might want to hold on to the card. It's not necessary to actually give them access for them to benefit. Besides loans and rentals FICO scores are commonly used by prospective employers and by insurance companies. Car insurance premiums tend to be higher if you have low score and some job opportunities may be denied due to low scores. It's in your interest to build and maintain a decent score. You don't need to carry a balance to do so.
