    The reason why playing from the back had less success against past Pep teams and this Liverpool side is that they had maturity and discipline in the back. For Man city then, Kompany and Laporte made sure that the team was not as vulnerable on the counter and with this Liverpool the same could be said of Virgil and whoever he is paired with. Yet still this strategy sometimes work and it is not only about Mourinho. Liverpool dropped points to a ManU playing from the back and lost to a Napoli built around absorbing pressure.. Liverpool may have been the better team against Tottenham, but they were also lucky to grab the win.

    Jose will grind out results against the best teams and bully the smaller teams with superior player quality and tactical play. However, Spurs were way off it yesterday and Jose knows that. He likely did not believe that the back 4+2 could thwart Liverpool's attacking 2-3-5, and that the team could recover well in high transitions - Liverpool are just too quick and skillful and that's just how it is. Keeping it to 1-0 and saying that "a throw-in and a Lo Celso missed chance prevented them from beating Liverpool" is enough for him to galvanize his players for the remainder of the season and provide impetus to their cup runs.
    Jose's "grind'em out" style of football is likely still effective; Even Atletico play the same type of low block-counter football and have had a lot of success in recent years. His biggest problem is that Klopp and Pep are taking turns to ratchet up 98+ points season after season, so a team that finishes with: P38 W26 D9 L3 P87 doesn't win a league title any more. Jamie is right in that they are probably 5-6 players away - they have to find a few workhorses in midfield and replace their backline and goalkeeper. Son, Kane, Moura, and Alli are enough to win PL's and CL's.

    Levy hasn’t got a clue. It’s a repetitive cycle where you get the team playing and then you can sense that they are just going to fall apart. Success comes from everyone contributing at the club. The warning was there when he didn’t buy anyone in the 2018/19 season. The first thing you do when losing in the Champions League Final is to listen to the manager and bring in those players he wants at the club to go one step further. We have a bunch of clueless old men running the club who no doubt have loads of dosh but haven’t got a clue where to spend it. If you leave it to Daniel Levy he will go in interested in the player...but then sits down and negotiates a reduced price in the player...or reduce his wages.

      In the first few weeks of Klopp's tenure he beat Chelsea away 3-1. This was at a time where Mourinho's Chelsea were difficult to beat. A couple of weeks later he beat Man City away 4-1. One of the few teams to thrash City that season. A month later he reached a League cup final, yes he lost, but there was forward progress. Liverpool were unable to pick up points against the big teams. This season Mourinho has played against Ole, Lampard, and Klopp and picked up 0 points. Picking up points against lower teams is expected of Spurs.

This is the last chance saloon and he’s already blaming lack of investment when he was made aware he’d have to do spend normal money like everyone else bar Pep. Complete fraudster.

This was the second time he's had a full week between games to work with his players, and there is already a massive difference and they played much better. There's no shame in losing to this Liverpool side, everyone is losing to them these days. What matters is how they actually played, and I think Tottenham did a great job defensively and had some great opportunities going forward that they should have really put away. That's better than most sides have done against this Liverpool team, and should give them a bit of confidence which it's clear the side need. Ultimately I think people are being way too critical of what is a very young side under Jose, Klopp didn't build his Liverpool side in a few weeks. Spurs have struggled recently with results, and i think that a back 3 would suit them more than a back 4 would. having Toby, sanchez, and tanganga playing as 3 CB's would be solid. allowing the wing-backs to attack more and deliver crosses in without having to worry as much. just my opinion. but i'm not the manager, so I just support my club and hope for results. However, one cannot excuse the lack of signings. look i get that the stadium was just built and we're tight on money, but we can still be cheapskates as we have been for a while now. take punts on young, promising players, and players that are out of favour.

    Jose Mourinho still needs to sort out the 4 key players that contract expires at the end of the season out of the five he started with. These are the Centre-half, Jan Vertonghen, Goalkeeper, Michael Vorm, midfielder Christian Erikson and loan deal Giovani lo Celso. Was Giovani lo Celso long term replacement for Christian Erikson or more competition in the midfielder and to give one of the other midfielders the chance to play back-up 2nd or 3rd forward choice. Then the boss got to consider is he good enough to keep or no.
    Plus nobody really knows who was the replacement of his back-up forward number 2 a key player that got them into final of the champion league from last year. Then it the new right-back from his academic, given his breakthrough season where he plays many games because of the last right-back as left.
    Either way at the start of January or most likely in the summers of 2020. If these players don't sign a new contract or the boss feels they replacements are no goods he has to either buy players or choose the academic players he believed they can become the stars of future and give the same or even better performance. Then at the end of the season, he has more pressure with the next season of players who has end of the contract as well.
    End of season and the begin of summer 2020 Is going to be a busy time at Tottenham. Furthermore, the boss will likely try to buy key specialist players that would either improve the defence of player or attack. The fans deep down know last year squad is good enough to win the champion league and the current boss knows that too, but he has this season a new right-back given more chances and a missing forward most likely a midfielder playing the backup position. Still, we don't know who was his replacement to guarantee the silverware this year's or some others cup.
    What would the number of players would he require to replace 1 or will it go to up to 7 by the summers of 2020.

    do not worry, if he get a good player like Militao or Drogba plus Kane. Erickson will leave, change player number 8(he is not good enough to play for top 4 team), and get 2 proper midfielders - this team will be dangerous, because from defensive football to counter is the most plausible way. Liverpool win most games, because of fitness levels, not because they better set up tactically. Chelsea won Europa league by beating attacking football. Liverpool against Barcelona last year, pundits want to say that Liverpool was playing on front foot? They did not see the ball most of the time, especially first game.
    Tottenham in the final of Champions league final made a mistake going forward full force in the first 15 minutes.

    personally I admire what Jose tried to do against Liverpool he knows his team better than anyone and he knew that if he would go toe to toe with Liverpool they will tear them apart so rather go conservative and hope that chances such as Sons and Lo Celsos are tucked away, everyone would be hailing Mou if he took 2 or 3 points off Liv he kept them at arms length other than that good piece of footwork from Firmino it was an evenly balanced game

    Pochettino this, Pochettino that. Liverpool have won the last 4 games against Tottenham before this one. It’s not like Pochettino was dominating Liverpool every time the played. Is everyone forgetting Pochettino with the same players were being dragged into relegation battle and didn’t win away game for almost a year.

  • @HasAfzal
    @HasAfzal Před 4 lety

    This isn’t what Mourinho needs, it’s what Spurs need. Poch worked miracles with that squad they were punching above their weight far too long. He said time and time again that they need investment but he didn’t get it until last season. The team has gone from the youngest average age in the league to an aging squad. Look at 4-1 when Spurs thrashed Liverpool at Wembley. Hardly any of that Liverpool team exists because Liverpool have gotten rid of their deadwood and evolved their squad. The Spurs team has been the same the past 5 years. It needs an overhaul but it’s now evident due to how many injuries they have. Rather than being reactive Spurs need to be proactive in the transfer market.
    I guarantee you once Spurs sign younger players they’ll go back to their high pressing style and playing out from the back. If you look at Jose’s first few games they were playing out from the back but he soon realised he doesn’t have the players to do it. Once he gets younger players in they’ll be able to press high but for now he has to just sit deep and hit teams on the counter because they have good attacking players

    • @jsmarty1
      @jsmarty1 Před 4 lety

      Joe White it’s not that you’d get an improvement on Kane, but long term, just from selling Kane, Spurs can make 3 good signings for about 140-160m. Theo Hernandez: LB, hot prospect from Milan, in brilliant form. Probably could get him for 40m. Bruno Fernandes: very good, fairly young midfielder from Sporting Lisbon. Probably around 60m. Timo Werner. One of Germany’s best players at the moment. Has a release clause with a max of around 50m. Get him immediately. Just from selling Kane, you’d get these 3.

    Spurs fans will have to decide whether they want trophies or 'good' football. Also, I disagree with Neville using City as an example for progressive football. Sure, not many teams are successful against City when dropping deep but their attacking talent is utterly ridiculous. They are probably the best at it and using an outlier to justify his argument is stupid.

    5 players? People were saying if Mourinho had the Spurs squad, he could easily challenge for the title compared to the United squad. Of course it needs improvement in midfield and fullback areas but 5 is pushing it. That being said, he set up Spurs the right way for that Liverpool game considering the injuries had.

    He came into a new club mid-season who had been just miserable during the season. The team then suffered massive injury problems (Kane was out for a while, then son at he same time, heir goalie was out for a stint, lo Delos was out for a while) and didn’t even have a proper striker during an important stretch to get into the top 4.with this 2 I believe this year Jose starts to really get into the squad and can see who is gonna work and who isn’t. Next season is the tittle season (he needs to win the premier league or champions league) because that’s what he was brought in for.

    • @joegriffiths9163
      @joegriffiths9163 Před 4 lety +4

      His point was that over the last 3 years it's not been an effective way of playing against City. Nearly every teams has tried to hit them on the break and City still amassed 198 points over two seasons, the only team to have a good record against them is Liverpool who play attacking against City. If you look at Liverpool with Klopp, most teams teams try to frustrate them and hit them on the break but in the last 18 months the only team that beat them was City and they did it by attacking and pressing Liverpool. Just to quickly go back to CIty, the counter attack has only been somewhat useful against them since they've had a centre back crisis. So his argument that sitting off teams to get points is gradually becoming less effective against the best sides in the league. So maybe, Jose Mourinho will have to adapt his style and become more aggressive to keep up with the points totals these teams as accumulating if he wants to win the title with Tottenham.
