In Episode 87, I cover Cheap Trick's "Dream Police". The song was written by Rick Nielsen and released in 1979. It is the first track on the group's album of the same name. The single peaked at #26 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Dream Police" dates back to 1976. It was one of 22 songs the band had written for their first album but it didn't make the cut.
The Dream Police album was completed and ready for release in 1978 when a funny thing happened. Their record company decided to release the live album At Budokan in Japan due to their rabid fan base there. The U.S. demands for At Budokan grew so great that Epic took a gamble and issued it domestically. That live album was the big breakthrough the band had been waiting for. Seemingly overnight everyone knew about Cheap Trick. This sudden fame left Dream Police on the shelf. Despite the delay, Dream Police was the instant, and perfect, follow-up to the band's new-found success. In many ways, Dream Police solidified every aspect of what Cheap Trick had been working towards since day one.
I have always been a huge Cheap Trick fan as I thought they sounded like the American Beatles as they were heavily influenced by them. I believe Rick Nielsen is one of the most underrated songwriters and Robin Zander has one of the most unique rock n roll voices, often imitated but never duplicated.
    Gear used in the video:
I used my custom-made Rick Nielsen Dream Police Explorer guitar. This guitar design was based on the guitar he used in the Dream Police video. My guitar parts were played through my Eleven Rack which was recorded, mixed, and arranged through Logic. The video was edited with Final Cut Pro. I used the Moises Music App to remove some of the guitar parts from the original recording so I could add my own recorded parts.
I use Ernie Ball Strings because I want the best like many of my idols like Paul Stanley, Jimmy Page, Billie Joe Armstrong, Angus Young, Joe Bonamassa, and Paul McCartney to name a few.
Thank you for your support of the channel and for keeping the music that created the soundtrack of our lives alive and well.

Thanks. Cheap Trick played a lot in the area that I live when they were starting out as the town they are from is only 30 miles away from where I grew up. A fact you may like is that they signed with Epic records at a bowling alley in Waukesha Wisconsin which is 7 miles from where I live. The bowling alley is still there all these years later.

That's a fantastic piece of history! I hope they were bowling while they were signing the contract. If I lived in your area, that bowling center would probably be my 2nd home.@@AQMusic10
