What head and cam are you running if I may ask? That's some pretty impressive numbers from a 998cc mini 👍🏼

Easier to put in a 1275, surely, 60bhp

Hi, it's a 12g295 head, chambers opened up a wee bit, bronze bullet guides, ports smoothed out, took fair bit off the face of the head to get 10:1 compression, 270 piper cam. cheers Marty

agree with you there easy power, but how many 1275 lumps around and all fetching a premium, can get good power from 998 and there's a lot more around still for reasonable money, my son learnt a fair bit from doing this project which gives him more of an understanding.
is was 68 at the flywheel according to tuner, can get more out of the 998 but becomes a pain to drive unless your flat out racing and we built this for the road. cheers Marty

Love the 998 engine,I'm using one with an old rally cam,on targa rally's,more than enough power ,just want to now , what's the tick over like, and what dizzy you are running
      ?

Hi, sounds like your having great fun with your mini and the Targa rally looks good, were in the process of building a rally car at the moment to be used initially for club sport and going to see were it progresses from there. is that the old 544 cam your running? the idle speed has to be increased 200 rpm so around 1000 - 1100, is a little lumpy but not too bad, because we are running quite high compression we have got away with almost standard dizzy, it looks like it,s got a slightly softer primary spring so timing advances a bit quicker and a total of 11 degrees advance on our dizzy which is 22 at the timing marks, ended up around 12 degrees at idle on the dyno which is more advanced than I thought it would be but that is were it runs best and safe from detonation. hope your rally goes well, Cheers Marty

You didn't say which rolling road you used. Do you recommend?

Hi, It's my son who knows Steve at Blenheim so that's why we took it there, haven't tried anywhere else, any tuner should be able to sort your car out or diagnose any issues, old classics are a bit more fiddly because it's mechanical changes not software so good to go with someone who's used to working with mini's. but DYNO is the way to go for the best tune up. cheers Martin
