  • This is my Humble review of the Ember Smart Mug version 2, almost 1 year after owning it. What I enjoy about it and what I've disliked. I go over battery life, the app, and some things I didn't expect to enjoy.

    I recently got this mug as a gift and I really enjoy it. It's cool to the touch when the liquid is hot hot. Wish the cup is like 18-20oz but I guess that would reduce the battery life faster. Also I am a lefty so I pick up the cup often with my left hand so I can't see the light indicator as it's on the other side. Overall would I pay the retail price? Probably not tbh unless the battery can last like 3 hrs, but it would be a nice pick up at like 75 bucks. I do enjoy my morning coffee more though.

    @ScissorVixens Před 2 lety +3

    Oh damn...was ready to purchase one of these mugs BUT one of the positives you noted is actually a negative for me. One of the things I love about a fresh HOT cup of coffee first thing in the morning when it's cold in my apartment (Winter) is wrapping my hands around a HOT mug and feeling the warmth of the mug on my cold hands. Of course, that comes at a cost because if you can feel the heat coming from the coffee mug...it's obviously dissipating heat and soon your coffee will be cool. I was hoping the Ember mug would allow it to feel warm on the surface while keeping the coffee at a decent temperature but according to this review...the surface of the mug won't feel warm to the touch.

    Nice review, thank you.
    Don't know if you are into technical details but do you happen to know what specific material the exterior is made of?
    And more specifically the area where the LED is:
    Is that area more transluscent than the rest of the mug, and that's why the led is visible?
    Or is the whole mug equally transluscent but it just happens for the leds to be behind there shinning?
    Or is it that this area specifically is some acrylic molded on top of the rest and the light just shines through?

    • @thehumblecanadian431
      @thehumblecanadian431  Před 3 lety +1

      Those are all really good questions! Short answer is I have no earthly idea but now I can't stop wondering! haha. My guess is there is that there is a small acrylic coating over what I'm guessing is metal and the acrylic is what's translucent. I think the LED shines through a small cut in the metal housing.
      All I guess by me so if anyone's seeing this that knows better feel free to chime in!

    I've had mine for a few weeks and love it. But I did find a strange issue with it... It doesn't seem to like it when you put in liquid that's cooler than the temp it's set at. I had it set at 135 and put in coffee that was probably 110 and it thought the mug was empty. Not sure if you've had this problem. I messed around with the app and eventually got it to start heating the coffee (it was a latte) but it took a looonng time to heat up.

    Yeah the app isn't great, I find I have to reconnect the mug most times I use the app, but the app is really for setting the temp and seeing the battery life, and updating firmware, you don't need it to drink your drink.
    I can't find many faults with the cup, I did notice after drinking about half a cup and then using the charger the tea felt slightly hotter, but I could be imagining it.
    At first I thought it was a bit of a gimmicky product, but it's noticeably better having your tea stay hot for 20-30 mins (or longer if don't drink it so fast).
    I think if anyone gives me a regular cup of tea again I'll throw it in their face.

      Haha, when I get a regular cup from a friends place now I always drink too slow and it goes cold, definitely spoils you a little eh.
