Toyota's Prius+ enabled larger families to also join the hybrid-powered tax-efficient clean and frugal fraternity. With citycar-style emissions and MPV-style versatility, it's the kind of People Carrier that'll appeal if, for you, seven-seat transport must tread lightly on our polluted planet.

A quick note, the B mode is for braking when going downhill and not for generating extra energy during regular driving. That part of the video is very misleading.

I’ve had one of these for the last 7 years and put 300,000km on it in that time. The reliability of these cars is incredible. Other than brake pads and a couple of wheel bearings it’s been absolutely bulletproof

Providing you regularly service them like oil change and clean the hybrid fan filter.

On the Prius plus there is no fan or filter for the hybrid battery.
As for fuel consumption it really depends on how you drive it.
My commute to work is a 115km round trip consisting of mainly flat straight roads averaging 60-80km/h and I can get around 1000km per tank of fuel (45l capacity tank) averaging 4.0l/100km or 70mpg (59 US mpg)
If you drive in places you can utilise the battery more effectively the better the consumption will be. It’s not a great motorway car and gets noisy and thirsty at higher speeds. My only regret with this car is not buying the premium model, other than that it’s probably the best car I’ve had.

Thanks for a detailed and interesting review; I never quite knew how to use the braking mode, but you’ve explained it brilliantly-I will certainly try it!
I find the third row seat is plenty big enough for adults who aren’t ten foot tall. My family have enjoyed many happy trips in a Prius Plus. Also, I didn’t realise that a handy way to put luggage in the boot is to lift up the floor flap and sit it upright!👍
I really love my Prius Plus
and even managed to get 95 mpg out of it! I still regularly get 77-85+ in daily use. The extremely low drag coefficient certainly has a role in its stunning fuel economy. Shame that the pano roof and head up were phased out of the later models.

Interesting video but I have to watch it on mute and read the subtitles because the clarkson type speech delivery gives me a headache

You can have one between 220-300 000km under 13 000€ now. Pretty sweet deal when looking car for family of 5, occasionaly needing 6-7 seats and want low TCO. Model X starts from 50 000€ still.
