    Among everything this episode really soured me on the entire series. Don't get me wrong, Chris has done a lot that he rightfully faces consequences for. But this episode he literally does nothing wrong. Julius (who is a great parental figure in other episodes) advises him to just roll over and take it, despite admitting that his own son had a point. Rochelle is her usually self with her obnoxious levels turned set to max and even comes clean that she doesn't have a valid reason beyond "because I said so". She pushes his buttons just because and stubbornly refuses to even consider that all Chris wanted was some help. Then the episode ends with nothing resolved and Julius repeating the same thing from the beginning. Like I said there are tons of times where Chris gets what's coming to him, this isn't one of them.

    • @CHRISTIANNWO
      @CHRISTIANNWO Před 5 lety +64

      It is about "being the bigger man." As in, it's not about being right, it's about doing what's best.
      In this case, the mom wanted her oldest son to do a minor task: do the dishes. Chris flat out refused, completely challenging his mom's authority. Eventually this leads to Chris being thrown out, putting himself and his family in danger, causing the entire family grief.
      The point of being the bigger man is to squash the little things before they become into bigger things. If Chris thought it was unfair, he could of talked to his parents privately, instead going about it how he did. Chris had to learn to be "the bigger man" the hard way.

    • @Ray_V

      @@CHRISTIANNWO Maybe if this was a random confrontation with some punk on the street you weren't gonna see again, I may have agreed with you. But I can't. Being the "bigger man" shouldn't have to be a situation that needs to occur with your own family. Julius's response that he needed to apologize because she would make him misreable is just a poor parenting, especially when he says twice that he agrees with his son.
      Rewatch the episode, immediately after he said no Chris does his absolute best to respectfully explain his reasoning. Rochelle mocks him, threatens him, and then says she'll call his father. Even after admitting she has no legitimate reason she further antagonizes him when he's trying to cook for himself and throws him out. If anyone was the one causing grief for the family it was her.
      At the end Chris learned nothing, his mom didn't bother listen to anyone but herself, and nothing changed. "Being the bigger man" got him nowhere.

    You don't ever apologize to make another person feel better off their own improper or incorrections. They need to learn they aren't symbolic to perfection while also taking a dose of humbling by reanalyzing the situation and asking themselves did they do something wrong as their left alone and no one is backing their selfish behavior. Without it your empowering them to maintain an heir of empowerment based off weak people fearing another's rejections or ridicule. Even when they are in fact wrong. Lying to a woman just to keep and establish peace doesn't make you a man in fact it makes you much lesser than a opposite; a weak woman.

      Chris was right, his mom had a problem and for being her son, living there, the situation was his problem too. We all have/had unperfect parents, some people even hard to call "parents" or "familly", cause the way they treats their relatives. Still, you have to make a choice. I think it's better to clean up some dishes and a table, know what i mean ?
      Your parents are not the person you're going to make a life with. It's a cicle, one day it ends. Normally it ends in early age, you live about 20 years maybe a little more or less, and then you are "free". This episode was a real gift, watched when i was about 14 years and my mom and i was like cat dog. My mom had hard times and it is a person who needs love and help. Maybe like anybody else. But she raised me in real young age. Today i'm an adult and I can understand more the difficults she had. I could understand this more clearly as i grow up.
      ** It's not about accepting unfair things, it's about moving on **
      You can't win everything, neither change people. All you can do is help and take care of yourself, just moving on for better days.

    Honestly, I can relate to Chris in this episode because I'm always the one having to do everything like washing dishes, giving my mom and brother drinks, etc. My mom is basically the real life version of Rochelle which is not surprising. Me and my mom argue about things like this, but my brother has to de-escalate the situation before it goes too far. My brother is basically Julius in this situation because my mom always brings him into the argument when she doesn't get her way.

    It ain’t about the damn dishes! It’s the principle of the matter! Chris busts his ass helping around the house, helping w/ Drew and Tonya up to that point, managing work AND school, getting up early to catch three buses to go to a school where he only has one friend and he gets bullied, profiled, and victimized on a daily basis.
    The LEAST Drew and Tonya could do to help them is to start cleaning up after their own damn selves. They’re certainly old enough to start doing it! And if Rochelle wants what’s best for Drew and Tonya, you’d think she’d get the idea to do the same w/ them that she and Julius do w/ Chris! Because in spite of all that shit Chris has to deal w/, look how good he’s turning out! He takes it all in stride, keeps trying his best, and has a good code of morals and sense of right and wrong. A big part of that is because of the responsibilities he has as the oldest in helping his parents manage the house and his siblings while they get to do whatever they want. As a result, Drew, while still a good kid, is a bit careless and prone to doing stupid things now and then (ditching school to try and meet Wayne Gretzky and giving his parents a heart attack thinking he and Chris are missing.) And Tonya… Good Lord, what a freaking brat!
    Rochelle puts so much on Chris that not only is she screwing over him, she’s screwing over Drew and Tonya too because now they’re not learning or being instilled w/ the same values of responsibility and discipline that Chris has!
