Wrong place and wrong person to go and talk to. I wouldn’t know how Mr Omar or Doc would respond but you already know Vanessa and Rochelle are tight so of course she be on her side. Plus as Rochelle would say “it’s the principle”. It starts off as dishes next it’s gonna be moping the floor or cleaning the toilet and yet Drew and Tanya still get to set around and do nothing! Plus remember the episode when Drew was going to skip school to meet Gretzky and in the opening it was a montage of Drew and Tanya breaking stuff or hurting themselves and Rochelle blames Chris for not preventing it.

I love the personalities between Tonya and Drew. Tonya, although she loves Chris, she's still in the immature stage of her childhood; wanting to selfishly take one of Chris' belongings: his radio. Although Tonya protests against Chris leaving, as loving sister would, she still doesn't seem too concerned.
Whereas Drew is more mature, and decides to give some of his money to Chris. Whether it be only $1 or $5, it's clearly an act of selflessness, and he seems genuinely worried about his brother.

I mean at least when men do it they walk out of the relationship all together but they know they are in the wrong and their stupid, when a woman makes such decisions they voluntarily doom their children to a lacking and unfair upbringing while thinking everything's good and believing their a great example for mother's and woman power cause they dumped the man. Of course this is when it's voluntarily, obviously no one has a problem with single mothers when it's out of their power and they doing everything they can to make ends meet.

Rochelle would hate me and we would fight every day if she were my mom. Chris didn't sign up to be a third parent to HER children! Chris was totally right! It's not fair for him to be cleaning up all the time when he works, goes to school, and looks after his younger siblings. I hate when parents do this. Make the eldest child automatically become another parent. That ain't right. "It's just dishes". If it's just dishes, Drew and Tonya could do them. It's not about dishes. It's the principle of them not having to do shit while Chris does everything!

"Chris, you are a child. Parents don't negotiate with children."
This is the problem with black parenting/family culture, period. The number of blown out of proportion arguments I've had with family because they have this backwards mentality where they view you having a difference of opinion (as a human being with your own views, value, and principles) as disrespecting them, challenging them and "talking back to an adult."
Reality check for these "don't disrespect your elders", "it's my house, my rules" people:
    1. Let go of your ego. It's not about me being a child, in any capacity. This is simply an interaction between two humans. My age or the fact that I'm a younger branch in the family tree should never invalidate or mean that my point of view and feelings should be dismissed.
    2. Holding that "I'm your parent/your my child" nonsense over my head is BS. You chose to have a child. The child didn't choose to be born. So stop acting entitled like I'm meant to be eternally indebted to you for a decision that you made that, in reality, was made by you to solely suite your own interest when you made the decision.
    3. If you want to use the "this is my house" crap as leverage, then don't be surprised if either, you and your child become distant, or, if when that child grows up and throws that same crap in your face when they're then the ones in the position of leverage.
    This episode was important.

Im the oldest out of the 7 children that live in the house, two of them are 16 and 15, they are capable of doing basic chores and cleaning up after themselves. The others are literal children still, from 1-5 but I always have to clean up after all of them, because "you're the oldest you should just listen." Uhhh im a high school senior with multiple college courses and a part time job. I go to school, go to work, do my hw, and HAVE to babysit after all of that. But because the two other kids didnt want to do their dishes, I HAVE to. All I said was "it's not my day to do dishes." And he lost his shit on me, so all I said was "Can you just please leave me alone? Im tired." Then he went on some tirade, so I just locked my door, but that set him off, we got into a shouting match and he got physical and said some really not so cool things. He said that he hated having me as a son, that I was an ungrateful lazy kid, and that as soon as I turned 18 I was out of the house. All that because all I said was "it's not my day to do dishes" I left, but my mom begged me not to, but being at home hurt too much.

I also noticed that she seemed to have some kind of unspoken resentment towards him and I later found out that the he and his siblings had different fathers and then it started to make sense.
I think his mom probably was hurt more by his father than the others and took it out on him.

So you shouldn't take the time to listen and understand your kids and wher they are coming from? Maybe when they re real young but once they get a little bit older and start becoming their own people with their own opinions you should understand where they are coming from and talk to your kids. That shit is what messes up kids and makes them turn out shit or what makes people not be able to think for themselves.

Parents need to listen to their kids. That’s why kids grow up to resent their parents because their parents think that since they’re the authority figure they can treat their kids any sort of way and expect their kids to sit back and take it.

This episode gets me. Like WTF Chris should not do dishes/chores all the time when there are two other siblings there to help. Did nobody think about taking turn scenario if Chris does it this time then Drew or Tanya does it next time and then the third sibling does it and then start back over at Chris. How hard is that.

This is just proof to kids that parents don't _really_ know what they're doing. They try but they screw up most of the time.
I love how they had to break down the expression "Cutting his arm off for putting his finger in the fan". Not _just_ because she didn't understand the metaphor, but because she didn't understand how kicking Chris out was too heavy of a punishment for not doing the dishes until they explained it.

THIS!!! Parents need to learn not to dump all the responsibilities on the first born child/girl/whatever ever. It is not a child’s responsibility to clean/take care of the children YOU and YOUR PARTNER decided to bring into this world. Have some common sense, a child can’t take care of a child. It’s okay to ask a child to clean after themselves and maybe their sibs every ONCE IN A WHILE, but when it gets to a point where a child feels stressed about always being the only one doing it, YOU as the parent have taken it too far. And honestly this point can’t be stressed about enough.

And that's the biggest issue with this episode. I am for obeying your parents and back talking against them should not be encouraged but if chris has been the only one who has done the dishes and drew and tonya are old enough to do them, I wouldn't blame him for back talking. Why should he be the only one. Rochelle is wrong. Period.

@0:21 I don't think people caught what Tanya said here. Even though she knew darn well that Chris was leaving because of doing THEIR chores, she still implies that Chris is being stupid and should be doing their chores. Why didn't she offer to start doing her own chores from now on? She even asked for his radio, as if he was going to be gone forever. It's perplexing at how Rochelle instilled herself into Tanya.

Being the oldest child sucks. I took care of my lil brothers, kept the house clean, worked when I was of age and my parents treated me like shit, would swear I was lazy. I'd get off at 10pm on a school night and have to come home and clean the kitchen eventhough my lil brothers were already there. Then if I said something, I'd get the shit kicked out of me. Me and my parents bumped heads often in high school, nothing I did was ever good enough and when they decided to put me out. I ran for my sanity and never looked back. I didn't talk to either of them for almost 2 years.
