My reaction to Season 1 Episode 25 of Re:Zero - Starting Life in another World. I'm always happy to see a season finale leave on a satisfying note, even if there are clearly still plenty of directions for the story to go and questions to be answered...

According to the author , If subaru is never summoned in the rezero world , then Emilia and felt dies in s1 ep 1 and also crusuh camp lost the battle against white whale and lot of shit will happens in rezero world

Great reaction.. And it was Such a good ending, And I am soo glad you didnt do the directors cut. A lot of fans always push the reactors to do that, and they actually end it off on a bad note(as you already know by being so much farther ahead). I think ending it the way it is, is so nice to have him actually get a happy ending after ALLL the misery he suffered throughout the season. And there are like 35 Volumes ALREADY, and I think its in Arc 8, with it supposedly ending in Arc 11. So the show will go much longer than S3 if they finish it all unless they skip like 20 volumes and spoil the ending for the LN people lol
Something interesting about this checkpoint in particular:
This is the only checkpoint that is set in a moment in time that was surpased multiple times in other lives, but didn't became a checkpoint before the whale's death.
The other checkpoints were stablished in a moment in time never reached before. This is interesting because it proves that the thing that sets up checkpoints is not based on time but in results or achievements.

In the end.. this story is really about Otakus, incels, parasocial stans and white knights..
Subaru is delusional about the world and how it is supposed to be, he feels entitled to be the main character, to have a beautiful woman summon him, to have her fall for him, to be with Emilia..etc.
Betelguise felt that all his diligence for the witch entitled him to her love, when she probably doesn't even know him. Like the fans of a Vtuber or streamer... he was just a stalker fan of hers and she had no relation to him. This show peels back the layers of societal norms and social graces and shows the true ugliness of these kinds of people that is bubbling beneath the surface.
Like when Subaru had his uber-cringe moment with Emilia telling her that she owed him everything and she should just obey him and she could never possibly repay him..
Or when Betelguise went absolutely feral after being rejected by his idol..the witch. Subaru even admitted to Rem that he was an empty husk of a man who was arrogant, entitled, demanding and useless.. when he proposed for her to run away with him, he was forced to admit how shallow and terrible he is by nature. His façade and bravado completely shattered.
That is what this show is really about. Exposing the ugliness inherent in the fans and viewers themselves, and illustrating it to force us to look deeper within ourselves and avoid the same outcome for ourselves. The entire rest of the plot is secondary to this, I think.
On an unrelated note, it's also an inversion of your classic isekai where the main character has everything handed to him on a silver platter and is OP as Hell from the start.
This type of show has been overdone thousands of times and this show is a direct subversion of the tropes typical to them. The girls don't automatically fall for Subaru, in fact they all think he's scum, he has no Excalibur or magic (that works), and he is not the chosen hero like he thinks he is.. the story isn't even really about him, it's about Emilia.
Every win he has, came with great sacrifice on his part and had a huge cost. He was forced to be a hero when he started with nothing at all. And that is kind of the point too. He started from zero, and look how far he has come.
Sure that's your incredibly cynical take which spits in the faces of everyone in the show who doesn't believe Subaru was just a trash person from the start. Like Emilia, Rem, Beatrice, Julius(arc 6 spoilers), Ram, Petra and more villagers.
But depressed and traumatised Subaru says that was ALL there was to him, so have your re zero as suffering porn take I guess! Enjoy reconciling how you like a show where the obsessive abusive stalker Subaru with no other motives but to get in her pants... Gets in Emilia's pants?
The actual story is about a guy emulating the toxic ideals he thinks he's supposed to picked up from media, as a facade of the douchey strong male hero going around harassing people, to hide the trauma, fears of being alone, loss of his peaceful life with family which come now the people he's come to live in this new world are constantly under attack with him powerless to do anything suitably heroic which doesn't make them worry about HIM in turn. When his powerlessness is fully hammered in and he's terrified of ending up alone and hates himself for being a burden, he exposes his worst tendencies over and over to pretend it will just go away, hurting Emilia, Rem and others in the process, and yet they realise this isn't all there is to him. Like he tells Rem, all there is to him is this weak cowardly piece of shit burden, and yet Rem is angered because that is not the Subaru she sees at all.. Telling her that he did all he did out of the worst motivations is spitting in the face of the woman who fell in love with him, however clingy and unhealthy her current relationship with him is, because she doesn't deserve to be told against her knowledge that she fell in love with a lie. That would be saying Rem has no mind of her own and is a gullible fool to love him. It disrespects the other characters to say Subaru's most depressed thoughts are objectively true.

@@chaosmastermindthe character development wasn't Subaru being one way then another he was acting worse in the middle while denying his true feelings. That's why it's good characterisation lmao he DIDN'T become a completely different person but dropped a harmful facade.
That's why your take is bad, to make it you have to argue that Rem, in a moment she's framed as correct and loving, is just an idiot.
Also good character development isn't someone stopping doing things we hate and redeeming himself instead, it's someone changing realistically. Since Subaru doesn't simply change but our understanding of him from before then as well as his actions are also consistent it's much better than him just becoming someone who isn't a piece of shit. Knowing it was a charade to hide his vulnerability which is itself obviously what he thought was best to copy from media and what he thought he should be like, it shows that what we hated was that societal influence which was harming Subaru all along as well.
One last time but season 2 ep 4 literally spells out that Subaru has always been putting on an act, so do you really believe he was 100% truly the person we saw back in season 1's worse moments? The lines are ten times as powerful because you can analyse them as projection. Petelgeuse's "You were slothful and your love failed to reach him" is like that, so is Subaru's "You should owe me a greater debt than you can ever repay", which is actually how he's felt towards Emilia ever since she died due to his first failure, after helping him, and ended up taking him in, healing him again, showing more concern and giving him a home when he had absolutely nothing in this world(in volume 4 Subaru actually spoke to Al and learned he became a Vollachian slave/gladiator for over a decade after being taken from Japan further contributing to his breakdown in that episode, he was told how lucky he is to have people care for him). HE feels massively indebted to HER. And noone notices, even though he's obviously in pain after saying that and it's not truly how he saw her.
s2 is kinda boring af unlike the 1st one
