Coffee has always been both my favorite drink and also my hobby. But I’ve always avoided decaf coffee. Today I am going to try some decaf. I drove out to Fogline Coffee in Arcata because they are the premier coffee roaster in Humboldt. If I am going to drink decaf, I want to try the best.
And since I was driving through Arcata, I had to stop at my favorite hiking spot, Arcata Community Forest.
If you are interested in trying Fogline coffee yourself, the company does offer a mail order. Here is a link to their website: foglinecoffee....

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

The rain and the frogs with a nice cup of espresso sounds so peaceful
Indeed!
It so good to watch you enjoy the small things in life…The weather and frogs chirping most of all a good cup of coffee..actually I’m tired of all the manufactured entertainment. Just sitting on my porch and enjoying watching the birds and the sun set makes me enjoy life….
That’s so nice to hear. Being able to simply stop and enjoy the moment has been the best gift these last couple of years.
@@StaticCamperVanvery nice but frogs croak lol not chirp but that was cute nice
Be careful with decaffeinated coffee. The reason is for the following: In Europe, coffee is decaffeinated with steam but in the U.S. corporations decaffeinated coffee with chemicals that are toxic. This also includes decaffeinated tea. B12 is what you need to put back into your body because coffee removes B12 from your body.
Maybe you missed the part where I spoke about the issue with decaf
I love the fact that you talk about coffee and this is one of the reasons why I follow your channel. Thanks Scott!
Lots more coffee talk in the next episode!
@@StaticCamperVanhello ?
@@beverlyford7281 yes?
$18.00?? Scott. You must be kidding!! Boyfriend I’m 68 years old and absolutely love coffee. However, I have never spent $18 on a pound of coffee in my entire life. I’m so happy for you that you could afford to do that. I truly am.
Coffee is one of his small pleasures. 🤍
A one pound bag of really good coffee is lots of cups of really fresh is so much better than $5 bucks or more for a cup at Starbucks...
A pound will last him a while, gotta have some treats in life. 😊
Some people buy whiskey, Scott buys coffee.
I’ve paid 20.00. I never buy coffee from places like Starbucks ,I always make my own .So 20 bucks is cheap compared to that .😃
Het Scott, My sissypoo started getting those heart flutters a few years ago. She switched to drinking only decaffeinated and the problem went away.
The Mexico decaf they have is my all time favorite decaf, it’s a mountain wash process and it’s heavenly!
Oh, I haven't tried the Mexican decaf. Hopefully it will be in season next time I'm back in Humboldt
Oh, how joyful… The sound of what seems like 1 billion frogs… Thanks for sharing… Another great video! And, enjoy that coffee…💜 29:46
Those frogs were so cool, couldn’t get enough of them
I quit coffee for several years. Getting up in the morning realizing I no longer had coffee to look forward to…. was more than I could take. I’m drinking again but I go out of my way to rehydrate. The coffee dehydrates me really easy.
Hi scott that spot and view is so peaceful I hope that decaf works out for you also it's really cool that you find places to cook your dinner & sleep pretty much without a door knock at night
Lots of vanlife folks in Humboldt. It’s not looked down on here.
Scott, get your butt to the doc! I have atrial flutter myself. It laid dormant until my ulcers got too bad because they were misdiagnosed. It's not normal to have a flutter. I was 50 when mine was discovered. Okay, mother hen signing off now. Hehe happy trails!
I love how you promote local businesses! When I can afford it I buy local from small businesses. With the economy the way it is that's becoming more and more rare.
I love the sound of frogs!
Thanks for letting us hear the frogs 🐸 ❤ great video as ever, really enjoyed it x
I love the sound of frogs, crickets, birds, nature in general,, along with rain, ocean waves, thunder and lightning...........somebody stop me!!! Lol
Enjoy your decaf Scott ❤
I like the sound of the frogs . Here in Barbados you would hear them at night.
We like the sound of the frogs, too. You are not being silly to like frog sounds.
Scott,
I have sleeping issues so I started making a 50/50 mix a couple years ago. Even if half the flavor is lost in the decaf process, you'll still get 75% flavor with the mix.
After the great Nashville flood of May 2nd 2010 I started to hear frogs in my back yard. There is a small creek and the apparently got flushed out of their normal habitat and landed in my back yard. They are only active in the spring/summer.
I drink half-caff in the morning, full-caff (regular) in the afternoon, and decaf in the evening. That's what I've found works best for me.
I removed all caffeine years ago now and the quality of sleep improves dramatically. By the way- roasted dandelion and chicory is AMAZING. Try it!
I mix ground chicory with my coffee to lower the acid & caffeine due to health issues, & it's really good!
I'm using Chicory & Celon Cinnamon with my cats wet grain free cat food.... Stops digestive Issues....
It's saving him & he's gained weight & back to good health....
My mother lived in Eureka for over 20 years before she died at 99. I’m a photographer based in Detroit, but I’m due a return visit to the area. I just ordered a bag of coffee from #FoglineCoffee! Thanks for your tours and advice!
You're welcome
Scott if you do switch to decaf make sure you buy water processed decaf. Not chemically processed decaf. Love our coffee times together
I spoke about this
I also do a half and half mix with the decaf 💯👍❤️
Your videos are very therapeutic! 😌🙂
❤ Beautiful Park WI the Pippers sound!👍✌️👌🤞🙌🙏🇺🇸✝️💜🤩🌟🌅🌄🌛
Between stomach and sleep issues I spent a bunch of years fully decaf, and now I've started limiting my caffeine to before noon. After noon, I've recently started drinking Mushroom coffee for stomach health. It's not fully decaf, but it's much lower in caffeine than full strength coffee. So good for my stomach/digestive health and amazingly tastes really good! And I can drink it before bed and not have issues!
It's kinda nice not having my stomach being a walking dumpster fire of discontent all the time!
I'm so glad you noticed the palpitations.....
& Switching to Decaf Coffee is a great idea....
It's not so Dehydrating....
I switched 2 years ago for similar reasons....
It's stressful for our heart to push thick bld through...
& Is responsible for many attacks...
Here's to good health - Thanks...
I understand paying more for quality. Furthermore I enjoy and appreciate your walks in nature, your calming voice and your coffee talks. Thank you and happy new year.🎉
Happy New Year
Hi Scott,
Thanks for sharing this vlog. I'm a decaf drinker out of necessity- major heart flutters since I was young (also happens with hot chocolate and very good chocolate).
So I do decaf because I so enjoy coffee (and coffee talk) though it seems many aficionados seem to think that 'decaf' is 'not' coffee (or so I've been told, lol). I hope the decaf works out for you.
Enjoyed the frog sounds- reminds me of former home near woods and pond. I find it peaceful and soothing.
Best wishes for a healthy and peaceful New Year with safe travels.
Coffee and chocolate, same here. ❤
Love the sound of the frogs❤❤❤❤
I just switched to decaf. I was dehydrated and it was making my pulse race.
Door slider bearing might be gone; flat on one side. Easy enough to replace.
Thanks for this info Scott, Im going to check them out. Hope the decaf helps you. Stay safe & dry out there!
Actually, Swiss water process coffee , is decaffinated 100% chemical free and is gluten free.😍Check it out.
Scott. Been following your travels for some time now; first time commenting. I particularly enjoyed this episode. I grew up in this neck of the woods, and know of all the places you’ve mentioned. Excellent channel; photography videos editing speaking. Ejoyable entertaining relaxing interesting. Thank you.
Hey thanks.
🙂 Your opening was hilarious… “yeah…” That look! 😂
So cool that you found a boutique decaf!! ... You're making me feel more adventurous. ... I can drink caffeinated coffee to a point, but then I get the jitters & anxiety, so like you I just decided to go decaf ... it's just more simple. ... now I'm looking forward to trying Fogline & finding more varieties! Thanks Scott!! ... I hope you're warm up there during these chilly rainy days & nites. ... Loved that frog-song. It just seems that Homeboldt moves at a slower, more sane rhythm 😺💜
It’s great here in Humboldt as it never gets cold or hot
I have filter coffee first thing in the morning then for the rest of the day I have filter decaffeinated coffee.
Caffeine will undermine your quality of sleep. You might think you are sleeping well but in fact the time spent in deep sleep is reduced with caffeine.
So it is good to enjoy caffeinated coffee in the morning but not later than that.
The removal of caffeine is a very simple process and so you can have extremely good quality decaffeinated coffee.
There are a lot of us that aren’t affected by caffeine. Everyone is different
I hope that decaf works out for you i also drink it in the evening because i can't sleep if i drink normal coffee after 20:00 o'clock
No decaf for me!! I make 8 cups every morning- my sister drinks a cup and the rest is what I drink throughout the day up to bedtime! No issues about heart racing or fluttering but I drink also about half a gallon of water all day so maybe it waters down the caffeine! I’ll have to stop drinking coffee if i can only have decaf! Nice to see your vlog twice this week Mr.Scott! 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing..I had same problem, I switched to smaller cup of coffee in morning, then just another small cup late afternoon, never had the flutter again. I actually enjoy coffee more now. Safe travels, take care.
Scott, you do make me smile 😊 the frogs are great 👍
its 3am here, and i just made a coffee and saw your new video, so I am a happy person enjoying your decaf search, and my regular coffee
Toni
I love your coffee centered videos. Being a picky about coffee myself I’ve a brand of coffee from a specialist supplier that I like very much and stayed with that for the past six years. They had to change the brand name once due to European regulations but the intent stayed the same. Anyway, greetings from a wet and very windy the Netherlands. I’ve been camping out for the past week my small van, similar to yours. Had to stay inside most of the time, catching up on a lot of reading and sleep. Thanks for sharing your (coffee) life.
It’s been windy and rainy here too. Great coffee weather
Hello again! Really enjoyed this video. I've been able to sample Fogline coffee once or twice when they had a booth at an event. It IS very good. 😊 I wish I could support them, but it will have to be one of those things I get as a gift. I hope it makes a difference with the fluttering. Not a fun feeling. 😕 Also, I love the sound of the frogs. Sometimes on certain evenings I can here them from my house as we live near a gulch. I've heard them when I've gone to Costco in the evening too. There are so many good places for frogs around here.🐸
Great....I will stay tuned for your revealing narrative 😊
I switched to decaff ground coffee about a year ago . I usually only have a coffee in morning , if i take more than one i suffer stomach problems. Decaff definitely helps yet i still stick to just one a day . I think caffeine is a powerful stimulant some people can cope with, i can't.
I love the frogs, too. 🐸 The house I recently sold had a pond nearby; anytime I went outside in the evening in the nicer months, that’s what I would hear.
Awesome!
@@StaticCamperVan, it’s definitely one of the things I’ll miss about that house!
Like you said it’s your only indulgence so it doesn’t matter what others think. The ole saying “you get what you pay for”. Enjoy!
Doesn’t seem like some people heard me say that. Haha
Love the frogs🙃. Always reminds me of summer nights when I was a camping teenager. Beautiful sound. Hope the decaf helps your flutter!
For cold brew, Sacramento County and Yolo County, I recommend Coffee Works and Nugget Market in Midtown Sacramento and Southport West Sacramento, respectively. In the greater Seattle area, King County, I prefer Woods Coffee, Bothell, Mighty-O Donuts, Green Lake, and Issaquah Coffee Company, Issaquah. Skol. P.S. This video is well-produced. 👍
I still drink regular coffee but I drink no more than three 12 oz cups a day. I have found that if I drink more than three cups of coffee a day it tends to upset my stomach
You know I love Joshua Tree Coffee, but my husband has to do decaf and theirs is only available in dark roast. So I'm going to do a hunt for a lighter roast for him. Like you, I want organic and fair trade as well. So glad for the info. I think you're wise to give it a fair try. Speaking of meals, time to go make his breakfast. Good to see you in such a pretty place and yes, the frogs sound lovely. Really delightful.
What a cool coffee place! That latte looked delish. And loved the froggy sounds . 🫶
And the Arcata forest …wow. Heaven on Earth or pretty close looks like . Thanks for sharing your day with us 🌲☕️🚐

🐸Thank you for sharing.🐸
Fogline looks great, I love small local roasters. So I just ordered some.
Cool, let us know what you think of it
@@StaticCamperVan I will let you know. I ordered the espresso.
I agree with you, same here, coffee is my one treat. I also have the heart flutter because of caffeine, so I now drink decaf. In Florida we have fewer local coffee roasters. I found a decaf I like on Amazon, Fresh Roasted coffee LLC. It's a Swiss eater decaf, light-medium roast. I use a little more beans per cup to enhance the flavor, not bad. Also, heavy cream is much better than half & half. 😊
Hi Scott! There is anyway I hope you show all your coffees that you have been drinking so far on the next video to compare Pro & Con on each coffee (texture & special types) etc during the raining season thanks 😊
I love coffee. I do decaf in the afternoons. Love seeing your video.
The moment that Scott remembers Google owns CZcams! 😬😂
I tried to switch to decalf. Never found one that didn't feel like it would rip up my stomach. My solution is one maybe 2 mugs in the AM and good bottle water later. If I want late coffee? First a mug of water, then if I still want it I have a coffee.
All the best to you.
Hey Scott! Just letting you know, low potassium can also cause that flutter. Just sayin
I switched to Decaf last year and I feel so much better. It only takes a couple of days and you sleep better and feel better. It was playing hell on my stomach and sleep. I get up better in the morning. Give it a try. To me, you dont taste any difference.
I’ve already switched back
I cut out energy drinks but coffee stays 😁💛
Kicking Horse Coffee in Canada sells ‘Half Ass’ Coffee beans…..half the caffeine.
You said a swear!
@@StaticCamperVan I was referring to the animal …lol
P.S. that is the actual name of the coffee. Let me know if you want me to remove my comment. Apologies, I wasn't trying to be rude.
No, no, I was just joking around. The only thing I am serious about is coffee
A horse is an ass?? A horse has an ass! A horse is not an ass but does have one or maybe only half. This is a difficult topic
When I hear the frogs here I know springs here and my depression is over.. maybe I need to find a winter place where frogs sing .. thank you.. this made my winter day.. and relived a deep depression winter brings me./
coffee coffee coffee yess,, also Scott frog sound much nicer than cricket .
I will be ordering a bag of this Scott! I love the frog sound also as it reminds me of my grandfather's summer home in the TN mountains when I was a child.
The only decaf coffee that I’ve tried in the past and liked is from Olympia Coffee, your local roaster.
Those 🐸 frog's remind me of horror movies on the swamps Scott 😊 I've just switched to caffeinated coffee for a while from de Caffe, just to see if i notice much difference, great to see a first 2024 video from you and your in great happy spirit. Stay safe and happy Scott and have a great new year 🚐🐸🐸🐸🐸🚐🚐💯🤟🙏
I can't have caffeine so it's always decafe for me. Stay safe and warn.
I normally hate decaf coffee if I make it in my coffee machine. A big surprise to me was ordering an Americano. My daughter told me that some coffee shops do 1 or 2 shots. If I go to a coffee shop where they make an Americano with two shots for a 16 ounce, I love the decaf. I don't miss the caffeine.
Fogline is the absolute best coffee out there!
Fogline has some great coffee
I been making 1/2 reg coffee 1/2 DandyBlend I buy on Amazon
It works for me
Thanks!
Hey dude, Thank you so much! You’re awesome!
youre very welcome scott sir you are fantastic! more money to come your way.
Hi Scott, I was forced into drinking decaf about 42 years ago with the palpitations and anxiety issues. It is any VERNEV ER going to taste like real coffee and I am a true coffee, absolute lover, but I only drink decaf now and I don’t have any more anxiety attacks or help or anything like that so I’m wishing you welland thank you for all of your posts. They are very much appreciated.
I’m glad you got the issue resolved.
When you said you were going to get decaf coffee, my eyes almost fell out of my head! But then, knowing you, I knew you’re going to get the best tasting decaf coffee possible. I am so glad you liked the coffee. Those frogs sound like crickets to me. And why men hardly use umbrellas? ☔️ I don’t get it.
It’s a Pacific Northwest thing. Here in the PNW, umbrellas are frowned upon. All us locals have good rain jackets. We don’t need no umbrella haha
lol My dad felt the same way. I don’t get it but I appreciate it.
That was a cool park, by what you shared. It looks like a place I would want to take a hike!
I have chicory coffee. Its really good, less on caffeine, but I haven't given up my 2 cups in the morning!
Its very interesting, and fun to watch your coffee search.
The coffee search is never ending
Dandelion and chicory is vey tasty!
Hi Scott, you mentioned you have difficulty walking up hills and then I could hear it the video that it made you a bit breathless. When was the last time you seen a doctor?
Take some magnesium and potassium for the heart flutter. it can really help!
Good to see you’re doing well, Scott, and a happy new year to you.
❤ Good Evening Scott 🌌🌆 Your going to do Decafe! Maybe you should just use light Roast or only use half of what you use! If you use 1 Scoope ,only use Half Scoope! 👍✌️👌🤞🙌🙏🇺🇸✝️💜🤩🌅🌄🌟🌛🌻
Raising my cup of "half caff" to you!
Moved to 50/50 recently. Decaf still has caffeine but lower amount.
I love the frogs🎶 🐸 🎵
The natural background noise reminded me of my great-grandparents. In the US, the time I heard this beautiful song was when I was traveling for work in the deep south for GMC Corp.
Oh, I wonder if you've noticed any alates or fireflies there. For some reason, I associate that sound with alatest and fireflies because I so commonly experienced this combination in the South.
I don’t believe we have fireflies here
❤I hear Pippers! Sounds like Spring Time!🌅🌞🐸🐸🐸
I see I spelled peepers wrong 😂😅1 of those moments getting Thur the Fiu,Cold! 😅😂But the peepers do sound Beautiful and a Beautiful Park! Awesome 👍✌️🤞👌🙌🙏🇺🇸✝️💜🤩
Luv the froggies!
I like the sound of frogs also
🦋
Love the frogs
I think there is more to coffee than just a beverage. Its also something of a ritual. Especially grinding by hand etc. Its a few mins out of the day to focus on making something thats a treat. Loosing the caffeine doesnt inpact that aspect.
Also, I'm m wondering if light roast decaf might be too 'light' and that the medium was the right way to go.
Glad you're enjoying it.
Liked the frogs. 🐸 I don’t know that I would enjoy them for a long while but heading to sleep would be just about right. Thanks for the video.
I am going to buy some of their coffee Hmmm Good tip
I just want to give a Shout Out to Lucy Jo's Coffee .. A great Roaster I order from NY. The reason is.. They offer some great single source, LOW ACID coffees. That Low Acid feature has really saved me. Not sure if they offer de-caf..worth checking out.
Ok.. just checked.. water processed DeCaf and Organic. family run. 😊 ☕️
Well, there is decaf tea! LOL!
love 💘 the singing frogs!😁
Love the sound of frogs 🐸 ❤
Absolutely lovely! And I love the frogs!
Lately, I too have been thinking about picking up some decaf for the late afternoon hours. In the last year, I started having a second daily dose of coffee in the late afternoon and it sometimes effects my falling asleep. Its good that you don't have that problem although just this morning I had a cup of coffee at 6am, then fell back asleep for 2hrs. Wow, first time that's ever happened....Have you been to the Arcata wetlands, an alright place to chill and enjoy a cup.....take care.
Yes, I have been to the Arcata wetlands. I prefer the forest though
Hey Hey 👋🏻 hi Scott 😊
