Hey thanks for helping me find where all the grease fittings are and I know my channel is about lawnmowers but I'm not to familiar with all the mowers from 1998-2022 but anything before that is honestly pretty easy to grease
Your welcome thanks for watching I’ll have to check out your channel
Grease the tensioner arm pivots at your own peril because that attracts dirt and debris and can cause them to stick (thus having the belt thrown or destroyed). I use carb cleaner at my tensioner pivots in order to keep things clean, dry, and moving. Before each use, with engine off, I used gloved hands to shake each tensioner pivot to assure freedom of movement.
Thanks for the tips
Good video! The comments were helpful too. Thanks.
Welcome thanks for watching
I just ordered my replacement brake pads from my local John Deere dealer. You can buy any part including springs, screws, clips, etc. from your local dealer, even if you did buy the mower from one of the retail stores, they're still willing to service the mower and sell you parts.
Thanks for the great info and thanks for watching have a good summer
@James Chumley, I had to take mine to my hometown JD Dealer {actually they came and picked it up}, I had to have one of the small wheel welded back on. I've ordered belts from there to.
Thanks for this video. I have an L110 and had to replace a brake pad on the mow deck last year. A tiny local John Deere dealer had it in stock. The place was called Washington Tractor. They are a big company but this store is tiny.
Glad it helped, thanks for commenting

If you use dry graphite grease or dry lube it will help you out and not attract dirt, dust and sand to those pivot points and help you to keep the top of the deck clean when you hit it with some compressed air 😊
I guess you could do that. Thanks for watching
Dry lube or dry graphite grease works great with dirt etc not sticking to it and works great! Dry graphite powder or grease is also recommended to use in all lock and ignition cylinders as well. Great videos you got on your channel! Keep up the good work! Sorry if my last comment sounded like I was trying to tell you what to do or if it seemed my suggested method was better haha it wasn't my intention at all, just merely a suggestion if you didn't know about the dry lube or dry graphite is all.
Again keep up the great work! I've subscribed to your channel also! I always wanted to do DYI videos but the editing I'm not a fan of haha

I have 8 hours now on my E120. You can easily jump out the really annoying seat and reverse safety switches without cutting wires. The hydrostatic is awesome with those switches jumped out. I was afraid the deck grease fittings were difficult to get to. At this rate I will probably end the summer with about 25 hours. I will do the 30 second oil change and maybe take it back the the dealer and have them check it out for next year. I don't enjoy wrenching on things anymore.
I cut my wires for the reverse safety switch. If I put my parking break on I can get out of the seat without the mower shutting off. Thanks for the comment. Hope your summer is good
@Steve Fox just set the parking brake no need to restart the engine pretty quick and easy
@@DIYJIM pushing the button to reverse and mow was enough hassle to need to cut wires ? Or am I missing something cheers
@DIYJIM just curious, why would you want a safety like that off? Getting out your seat and mower shuts off.
I use the mower deck nozzle all the time. the blades have to be running. I also hose it down after every use and don't want to turn it off.. Cant use the hose while sitting on it
Thank you
You're welcome
Just wondering what kind of grease do you use on the spindles?

I use a Purolator Oil Filter and (Full Synthetic 10w-30 Valvoline Maxlife) in my John Deere 110 it's a V Twin, The Purolator is the Exact same size and Thread Pitch, etc and it seems to run smooth doesn't Leak any Oil or Burn it, and has almost 400hrs on the Engine itself
Sounds good to me if it works have a good summer
You go in great detail on the oil, but don't say what the oil filter number is, then say it was an exact fit - well isn't that a fact!!! Lol
@@bobwhite2754 Do you really want the filter Number? I will tell you lol
@@Robs_Got_A_Gun Thank you no, since I wrote this I found that you have given that information at another area in the thread. No big deal, just thought it was strange.
I tinker with all makes and models of lawn tractors and ZTRs for a hobby so I buy oil filters in bulk of at least 12, then compare the original filter specs for that brand of mower with whatever I have in stock, so I am well versed in the cross reference charts and many of the common specs for dimensions, pitch, thread size, and relief pressures; but thank you anyway for your desire to help, it's appreciated, and may you continue to be so helpful in the future.
This helped a lot.

And thank you for the "demonstration" on how to disengage that dumb button.

Good video, but just want to say. My craftsman lt1000 was 20 yrs old and all I ever did to the deck was new blades and belts. I personally would not spray grease on pivot points because of the environment they are in. Sand and grass will hold in the grease. You obviously go to greater lengths cleaning your deck so it works for you.
Thanks for sharing, I think the older mowers lasted longer but hopefully if I take care of my John Deere it lasts
Lowes guy told me to grease it up every two summers. Zero chance of me taking off my deck. Not sure I'd get it back on right...lol.
I hate the button too. Nice fix thanks.
Welcome thanks for watching
Hey - thanks for the video! I just picked a D130 from a neighbor that moved and I'm going through it - your videos are a great reference. I noticed I have a zerq at the front axle but there is a heavy shield in front of it. I can't get my grease gun fitting on it enough to get it to take grease. I even removed the front pivot arm to get that nut out of the area and still wasn't enough of an angle. Any ideas?
Do you think maybe a different grease gun would fit. It’s hard to help without seeing it. Sorry can not help more. Glad you like all my videos I think I have about 18 on my John Deere
@@DIYJIM Hey thanks for the response! I have two types but the injector head is the same on both. Looks like a trip to the hardware store to see if there is an alternative. I've seen quite a few of your videos. I'll subscribe so I don't miss any new ones! Thanks again!
Awesome thank you for subscribing
Also one thing is every 6 months to 2 years you should take the back wheel off and grease the axel just in case if something happens to the back wheel so it'll be easier to get off
Thanks for the tip Jerry
The bearings in the spindles are sealed bearings so when you attempt to grease to grease the spindle no grease is gearing to the bearings so you are wasting your time greasing them. This was confirmed to me be a JohnDeere dealer. To remedy this situation you need to remove the dark from the unit remove the spindles and remove the top and bottom bearings in each spindle, you will see that both bearings are sealed bearings, so when you pump grease into the spindle no grease is reaching the bearings
To remedy this remove the seal on one side of the bearings and reinstall in the spindle with the bearings facing the interior of the spindle and re install on Tahoe mower deck
I made a video about what you are talking about. Thanks for the nice big informative comment. czcams.com/video/ybKR4wTLez0/video.html
they are just dust covers not "seals " lol you can pick them out with your fingernail and people think they gone stop grease from entering , lol. a grease gun puts out like 10 000 psi every pump , grease until you see grease come out ends of spindles , grease will go threw bearing as it was designed , it takes approx 40 pumps each when new , every time you remove the berrings for no reason you are enlarging the soft aluminum spindle housing , the bearings need to be a press fit if not you will get a spun bearing and you spindles will be junk , .you need to knurl the spindle and / or use loctight berring retainer when putting them back if they are a loose fit .
So why have the grease fittings?
Wrong. Grease them sealed bearings will be penetrated by grease. SMH
❤tka so much. How do I but and install a rear end. I have a l110
Sorry I have never done that hope you figured out the wining.
Thanks for showing the backwards mowing button. Im getting tired of pushing mine.

Jim once again thanks. How often do I apply grease? Secondly you left seal off the bearings. Is that ok?
I live in North Florida. The Agro John Geere supply store in Gainseville carry the brakes.
I grease once a year now I mow about 1/2 acre. Hope this helps my friend.
@@DIYJIM Thanks Jim. It helps.
I couldn't find any fittings on my deck. I got a spindle from Amazon that has a fitting. Do I need to grease the new spindle or is it good for a season?
Really not sure I would guess it comes greased. Thanks for watching
The two belt covers do not have to be removed to grease. There are opening in each cover that line up with the zerk fitting allowing you to reach the fitting with the cover on.
Yep thanks for watching
Aren't the top wheel and lower wheel nozzles for grease connected? I thought I saw excess grease coming out of the bottom one when I squeezed some in the top. So you don't need to do the bottom one, correct?
Not sure what you mean but i think you mean there is one zirk grease fitting for the wheel spinning and one for it turning. I would grease both. Hope this helps
I have a Deere E130. I removed my 42" deck and attached my snow blade. What do I do with the blade engagement cable. And spring. Where do I secure it or?
Sorry I never did that maybe you could zip tie it to something. Sorry I can not help
try locating brake material. Cut to size apply with high temp glue. Just like car brakes of old.
Thanks for the tip
I found the grease for the grease fittings on the spindles spindles go only in a metal tube and don’t go into the bearings.
I had to remove both bearings on each spindle and remove the metal or rubber cover. I then cleaned the bearings remove the old grease. Then put new grease into each bearing.
I made a video on that, thanks for watching

My Grease fittings are dried up.(John Deere L118) Whats the best way to change them out or clean the hole?
You could take one off and try to carefully clean with maybe some break cleaner. Or you could take to an auto parts store and buy some new ones. They should not cost much. Hope this helps
Do you know the type threads/pitch on the grease zerks? I can’t seem to find anyone who knows.
Sorry I do not
Jim will a deck from a L110 fit strait on to a D110 ?
Not 100% sure but I think it is the same mower just one comes from a big box store and one from a small dealer.
Would anyone know the common zerk size (thread) for a john Deere riding mower? I had to used an 8mm socket to get one off on mine and mistook the 8mm and bought an 8m zerk which was too big? Maybe a 1/4 inch?
BTW, I enjoyed all of your videos and subscribed! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I’m not really sure sorry I have never taken any of my zerk fittings out. Thanks for watching and subscribing
See your John Deere parts dealer
I am wanted to replace the fittings on the spindles because I could not get a grease gun on them - they sit too low relative to the deck. I thought a fitting with a 45 degree arm would do the trick. The JD dealer only had the replacement part and was not very helpful. Looking at the parts list, I saw that the fitting came on the spindles, with no specs provided. FINALLY, I was able to locate what I needed in the specialty nuts and bolts section of my hardware store (basically a series of metal cabinets with small pullout drawers.) I found a metric grease fitting, M6 - 1.0, 45 degrees, regular pitch.
The old one came out using an 8mm open end wrench (be careful so you don't break the fitting off) and the new one was tightened with a 9 mm wrench.
So funny to see the comment above that the bearings are sealed and greasing this fittings is a waste of time. I hope not.

You probably could have actually showed the greasing of the bearings...i assume it only takes two or three pumps of normal grease like the type used on a car.
Thanks for the comment I do have a video already of me greasing the fittings
I have a LA115 i bought it used and it seems to have very sloppy steering. Any input from you would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry I have never had this problem. Sounds like you have some parts that are a little wore out.
Thanks for the comment on defeating that stupid reverse switch! I had a hard time getting to the grease fittings on the spindle and swapped them out for some with a 45 degree angle... Had read somewhere that they really don't need greased, they were a legacy feature from an older design. I grease them anyway. Thanks!
thanks for watching
Do you know if this applicable on the E110? I was trying to look is up and couldn't find much. Regardless, I know where to look now!
Not sure but I’m sure some are the same if you have three blades you will have one more spot to grease. If you still have a manual it should tell you in there
did some research for ya and it looks like they are about the same so you should find the same grease spots on your E110 thank you for leaving a comment.

@@DIYJIM I finally got to check it out and you were 100% right. Again, thanks so much.
I was anxious to see how you get that straight grease tip onto those blade spindle grease fittings cause I sure can't get it on there. The fittings are too low to the deck. I have a 90 degree tip on order and hope that works. I have to believe this is intentionally made difficult to get people sending them into the shop to get it done. Very annoying,.
If your only mowing around 1/2 acre i would not worry to much about your spindles. thanks for watching Bob

Taking care of your high dollar investment called a good quality lawn tractor is good preventive mantenance.
Yours will last a lot longer then the ones left in the yard where they stopped mowing!
Hey and about that nuisance backup button that John Deere puts on all the Riders,
It doesn't make sense so you look forward at your button switch, you push the button and you will probably back up before you turn around and look what's behind you and you will probably run over and hit whatever you was trying to avoid where as jumping that switch out allows you to immediately look behind you before backing up this switch is a no-brainer engineering design to sell more switches like that. For demonstration information only. Hehe
Great video, to the point and get er done!
Thanks for watching and the nice comment have a good summer
The push button to reverse only needs to be pushed once, then after you're going in reverse you can let go of it. It's a safety feature, probably a Gov regulation but it is a pain and most users bypass it.
That grease is expensive in your link on Amazon. $49? Will the $2 tube of grease you buy for cars work just as well?
Sounds good thanks for watching
I have a 10 year old riding lawnmower. I’m not finding much information about a PB145G38. The stickers say poulan pro and sticker by the seat mentions Husqvarna with replacement part numbers. I know it was built towards the end of 2013.

I am surprised to see the brakes worn down. Is the operator disengaging the deck excessively?

How do you know when you have pumped enough grease and not too much in each fitting?😳
You will see some start to come out what ever your greasing except for your blade spindles just put 5-6 pumps in each of them

Yep I have a video on that thanks for watching

@@travissheehan6082 If you don't take the spindle apart and pull one side of the seal out of each bearing and put the bearings back in with the unsealed side to the inside, no grease will get into the bearing when you grease it.

This is not the best way to override the reverse switch. I did this and it started to work intermittently, snowblower was still shutting off when backing up sometimes. Read somewhere that it can cause a solenoid or something to overheat because it is like you are holding down the reverse switch the whole time you are using the tractor. The better method is to just disconnect the reverse sensing switch underneath the tractor so that the tractor doesn't even know you are in reverse. And by disconnect, I don't mean the wiring harness connected to the switch, but the whole switch itself...in my case I just unbolted it, spun it around 180 degrees so the arm that activates it when in reverse no longer makes contact with it. Very easy to do, and tractor has worked perfectly ever since.
Thanks for the tip but I have had this disconnected for years.
the spindle grease points don't actually do anything lol its a design flaw.. thats engineers for ya! but to fix it just take the bearings out and take one seal off each of the corresponding sides of the bearings then put back together and the grease zerks actually do what they're supposed to

thanks for watching
I'd heard that too!
I wouldn’t say totally useless - filling the cavity around the bearing will keep water from sitting there
BS! You pump them full of grease to keep water out AND the grease will penetrate “sealed” bearings with no problem. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Other videos have convincing closeups of the ZERK fittings not only filling the spindles with grease, but actually show the inner side of both the upper and lower bearing SEALS being penetrated. The INNER seals apparently made of a softer material to allow penetration. Pretty Cool!
Sir, Greasing the arbors is a waste of time. The bearings are sealed. No grease will ever get into the bearings. You can remove the bearings and grease them. It is not a hard job.Lawn mower repair shops are ripping the customers off by replacing the entire arbor.Steves Small Engine Saloon explains this.

@Ken
SPINDLE HOUSING WITH SEALED BEARINGS AND GREASE FITTING. On these style spindles, grease is used primarily as a water barrier to keep water from accumulating in the void area inside the spindle housing and around the bearings and spindle shaft.
Its just to grease the spindles not the pulley bearings itself. Those are sealed just like on some vehicles its nothing new.
The issue with the spindle bearings is that John Deere seals them so the grease never makes it into them

@@RaysLaughsAndLyrics WRONG. that’s a huge waste of time And removing the inner seals does no good.
