    Hey friends, I'm kicking off a bathroom remodel VERY soon and before I started tearing everything out, I wanted to make sure I had something to replace it with.
    So first thing was first--I needed to build a new vanity. And I couldn't be happier with how this turned out! I really hope you enjoy watching it come together in this video.
    I'm sharing several handy tidbits of information throughout including how to use tongue and groove boards to make cabinet door frames and why I like to make my vanity bottoms removeable.
    So, keep an eye out for that ;)

      I'm just a DIYer electrical engineer with ADHD and hate the "this video is sponsored by" things but I am also not sure how I ended up on this video but you explained the remarkable and how useful it is incredibly well - so well in fact that my wife said "you need one of those" and it is on the way. Also thanks for the jokes and great explanations on the vanity. I am pretty sure we are going to build one of those too. Liked and subscribed! haha

      I see that you always use pocket hole screws, skeleton is made from timbre and panels are plywood. What is the reason for this approach?
      I know as much about woodworking as you know about Japanese language by the way.

      Hi! It’s readily available lumber and easy to assemble joinery using minimal tools. So in this way, it is approachable to beginner and intermediate woodworkers.

      @@WoodshopDiaries ok, I have been buying flatpack furniture for some number of years. This furniture is not designed to be dissasmbled and reassembled multiple times. Also, the use of certain type of nuts to hold it together makes it rather flimsy.
      For the furniture that you have designed so far, using the techniques that you have followed, is this furniture capable of being disassembled and reassembled multiple times? If not, what design techniques should be followed in that case?
      Also, do you always first create a detailed drawing in a CAD tool before starting the work?

    So - since when are design details that make something look high-end "unnecessary"?😄 This looks great. I am soooo stealing your idea about just trimming the drawer fronts - it's always bugged me to put two perfectly good pieces of wood / ply on a drawer front - this idea is just gold. Thanks!

    So, like Brewster said, design details aren’t unnecessary in the least. In theory, we could all build rectangular boxes and be done for functional purposes. The trim details matter the most when building furniture, imo. As a Trim Carpenter, I always make trim for my furniture and cabinet builds. But a few tips.
    Instead of leaving your glue to dry underneath your drawer trim, get a 23 gauge pin nailer. Pin nails are very small and will give you the ability to continue working as the glue dries.
    Another tip is use the saw dust from the wood your cutting with some glue as a filler for the small nail holes from the pin nailer.
    Third, and the most important thing to note. Pretty woodwork is awesome! Don’t apologize for making things look nice. You’re doing great work, Shara.
    Just get a pin nailer.

    The drawer face technique was brilliant actually. And you solved another problem for me: whoever built my kitchen cabinets used frameless hinges and just sort of left them "floating" where they didn't connect to anything. I don't know why it didn't occur to me to just put blocks behind them, but I was not looking forward to buying all new hinges!

      @WoodshopDiaries  Před 2 lety +1

    This turned out so nice. The block in the hinges is a little confusing to me but I bet I would understand it once I started doing it. Thanks Shara!

      It's to give the hinges somewhere to mount :) Without them, I wouldn't be able to attach the doors using concealed hinges.

    Shara, when I saw you didn't put a video up last week I knew you were working on something very special. You DID NOT disappoint!. This video is packed full of information. So much so that I'm going to have to watch it again so I can soak up as much as my limited brain can adsorb. I had to laugh at the cat taking a wide path around your project in the background. At great risk I'm going to share this project with my Wife! Thanks for Sharing!

      I’m falling behind…I can’t keep up with the once a week schedule anymore 😅 so I try to make them good ones when they do get posted haha. I’m so glad you enjoyed this one. I was so excited to share it and even more excited to get it installed…eventually. Feel free to watch as many times as you’d like 😉🤣 I love hearing that you found it helpful! Thanks for watching!
      Ps that cat…he’s always into something 🤦🏼‍♀️ he’s my favorite but he’s pure trouble haha.

    Dang Shara, I never thought I’d see you doing a “topless” video!…much less CZcams allowing you to post it! Of course, since I didn’t catch any new “words are hard” moments, I guess I can always count on you to still make it awkward somehow!! All jokes aside, I really like this project, from the removable bottoms to avoid the nasty water, to the extra, unnecessary pieces for visual design.
    Trust me, not everything has to have a structural purpose. At least that’s the type of logic I use when trying to explain away this tiny, tiny, tiny bit of extra chunk I carry around on my belly! 😂 🤣 🤪

      @WoodshopDiaries  Před 2 lety +2

      I did edit out a words are hard clip. Some day I’ll make a blooper reel of all the ones I took out of videos. 🤣 but yes, you can always count on me to make something awkward…it’s a talent I’m proud to possess 😅😅
      I’m glad you liked the design, unnecessary parts and all! 🙌 I always appreciate you following along and your hilarious comments. Have a great weekend and thanks for watching!

    Good view, and I especially like the project. I tried that Rockler dowel jig, and the bit was very loose within the metal sleeve. It was so loose, it was very difficult to make holes that line up. I figured maybe I got the wrong drill bit.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Před 2 lety

      Hmm that’s odd. Any 3/8” bit should work with the 3/8” jig, so maybe try a different 3/8” bit and see if it’s loose as well?

    An 18 or 16g cordless nailer would be a good addition to your arsenal of tools... I thought that as I watched you juggle the mitred drawer front trim... 😬
    Putting glue on end-grain isn't great ... unless you maybe use epoxy... pva will certainly not work too well... I liked the T & G you used for the door frames & the dowels work well...
    Another tool you could invest in is a biscuit joiner, though some love 'em & some hate 'em... I'm with Norm Abrams (New Yankee Workshop, yer probably too young to remember it but his TeeVee series are really worth watching..) on this one... I love my biscuits, great for aligning pieces with each other whilst also having a little (or large if u want) wiggle-room along the length...
    Nice project... turned out great ! 🤗

      Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
      I have both nail guns, but just didn’t want to deal with covering nail holes on the trim 👍
      Also, the wood glue on the butt joints is in addition to the pocket hole. Together, in my experience, they work great. I definitely wouldn’t use glue alone for this.
      Also, I know who Norm is, but I’ve never seen the show 😅 I’m sure it’s great.
      Thanks again for watching 👍
