- In 1991, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad was using leased diesels painted in WM livery to haul their trains. While visiting Sand Patch, we made a side trip to catch this unique operation. Enjoy the show!

I used to operate these RS3"s when they were still in use in the yards at Hagerstown, Md. My understanding was one of them ended up in the B&O museum in Baltimore.
I can’t get enough of these videos, I have VHS and DVD’s of the WESTERN MARYLAND, by Greenfrog and a few others. I’ll never tire of viewing them, as long as they keep selling them. Bought a few from Karl at the train shows and I’ll buy more.
they are beautifully restored alco locomotives. Love the western MD countryside as well.
Love that M3h horn chime on the FPA-4
Out of the 3 Alcos used on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad the whereabouts of RS3 199 is unknown to me (if anyone does know feel free to add comment) RSD5 1689 resides at the Illinois Railroad Museum restored into or as delivered CNW colors and an original CNW Marz light FPA-4 305 has been remembered 6771 and resides at the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad
Actually there were 2 FPA's. One was the 305 which is now Cuyahoga Valley 6771, and the other was B&O #800, also at Cuyahoga.
So very cool Erich
Fantastic video! I love all this old action! Great sounding horns for sure!!
I love the horn at 4:46 as it blasts towards the railroad Crossing. I have imagined the horn doing it at other railroad crossings. I also love the horn at 1:52
Great video! I loved it. I remember as a kid hearing about this museum, but I never did get out to see them. ALCOs are such classical locomotives and that horn was splendid.
RSD-5 #1689 has been repainted to C&NW colors and moved to the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL. Probably about a 45 minute drive from my house. Glad it's so close now, and it's also closer to its home turf. Next time I go to IRM I will definitely check it out. It actually wasn't until I saw the video of it at IRM that I made the connection that the 1689 in this video is the same locomotive. The horn has been changed out on it. Not sure what horn was on it in this video and I'm not sure which one is original, if either one is.
Here's an updated video: czcams.com/video/vdJHNDfKU1A/video.html
It's really a shame to hear about the 1508. That's a really nice RS-3.
still love that Horn she still sound's like a Bueaty & the Beast!
msj191961 i'm with you on that one i totally agree it's alway's been my favorite one and still is,1:26
I'm also glad that the 1689 has her original paint Scheme and she has an original cnw Mars light sometimes she's paired up with the bi-level Chicago Northwestern scoot as for the FPA-4 305 it was renumbered to its original number 6771 and she resides at the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad with sister engine 6777
Hermoso video, Beautiful! 😀👍
I think Ray Cameron is the engineer because as I saw in a Pentrex video he blows the m3h horn on the FPA4 in a distinctive way
TexasRailfan21 Yes, this was shot the same day as the Pentrex video.
Interesting
Love that Pentrex video. I got it on DVD as part of a boxed set. The footage is part of the Shenandoah disc that also showcases the Winchester and Western RR, a freight line in Virginia
Excellent video
I believe the FA in this vid is now CVSR;s B&O 800, and the RSD5 is now at the mad river and Nikel Plate Museum in Belleview Ohio, The RSD5 left CVSR 1 or 2 years ago.
Those Alcos definitely were a sight to see back then. I believe I saw the last clip on a Pentrex VHS. Cause the horn definitely sounded familiar.
I was there the same day as Dan Hadley from Pentrex shot his footage. For some scenes we were fairly close to each other.
@@fmnut Wow. That was interesting. Did you get any footage of that day's return trip at Switch No. 9? Because the Pentrex narrator said there were some railfan photographers filming over there.
@@danielfoster3642 Everything I got is on the video. There were many fans out that day.
1089 is now at the Illinois Railway Museum
Way cool Erich thanks for the info
Vintage Diesel! Before GP30s Along With 734 Handle The Train,
nice view i like it!,4:37
***** Actually 501 and 502 are owned by the Georges Creek Railway that operates out of Luke and services the Newpage Papermill. They're just on-loan I guess or there's some sort of mutual friendship between the two lines. All of GCK's engine's are in WMFF Heritage schemes.
i remember when i was just a boy something i could ride!,that song by Johnny Cash?,and i do remember when i was just a boy 2years old my first ride -29 years old and still rideing it.
The 1089 went to Mad River and NKP Museum.
Yeah man cool
msj1911961 today as a Bigrailfan I was at my Mom's Collage in Philadelphia,P.a. at Harcom University for a fall festival today 10/13/18 and there 4 Railroad track's behind it and saw 2 Supper Fast Amtrak Trains fly by Like The Polar Express! and 2 Septa Trains fly by also it was Awsome!,1:36
First Train i ever rode in the Allegheny Mountains 7/26/1990,0:00
So how diesels do they have? I know the have the GP-30 or GP38,
I heard that the RSD5 went to the Mad River and Nickel Plate Railroad Museum. I don't know if it still runs.
So cool man so cool
Well choo choo to you to Western Maryland Secnic Railroad Alco RS-3 Diesel #199 on 7/26/2020 i will be turning 32years old,0:16🤩
Is the ALCO still there?
Where are those WM Diesel engines are at today?
Nathan Corcoran read the comments below.
are they ever going to get alco RS-3#199,alco RSD-5#1689,alco FPA-4#305,back eventually?
I doubt it. They have their own diesels now.
They could lease some of the B&O museums WM diesels once 734 is done with its 1,472 rebuild
Whatever happened to the RS3 locomotive?
RR Museum of New England in Connecticut. It was originally a Boston and Maine unit.
what airchime horn is that on the rs3?
TexasRailfan21 Nathan M3 "tilt bell"
i sure do love the face on that alco FPA-4#305,and also the sound of the Diesel engine, and also both the bell and the horn.
Mark Cinque Me too I know the the horn is a Canadian M3h made by Holden
The rs3 has a fouled s3l of some sort.
Where is WM 199 now at?
The 199 RS-3 is in Connecticut at the Railroad Museum of New England
SwellDrew69 The 199 was renumbered 1508 (its original B&M number) and repainted after it left the WMSR. It is now at the Naugatuck Railroad (Railroad Museum of New England) in Connecticut. According to volunteers, CSX damaged the 1508's crankshaft while the locomotive was in transit to the Naugatuck Railroad. To date it has not been repaired. Behind GP9 1732 (out of service awaiting repairs) and U25B 2525, which was severely damaged when a crew ran into a siding just north of the Thomaston station and struck parked passenger coaches, the 1508 is not even listed on the Naugatuck Railroad roster. I am not sure the engine will ever run again.
I wonder what happened to those diesels?
Of you scroll through the comments you will get your answers.
@@fmnut thanks and I got my answer.
wish i could be in that cab right now blasting the Shit out that horn just for the hell of it "as in sure why not want to Blow the Horn? go for it Train dude,4:05
