  • Hi again! Phyllis shows how to make delicious boiled peanuts in the crockpot. This simple recipe uses raw, dried, in the shell Virginia peanuts, salt and water. Boiled peanuts are the Caviar of the South! These are perfect for football tailgates.

    I was raised in Tabor City, NC (40 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach, SC); population less than 2,000. There was an older guy who use to ride around selling already boiled peanuts from his bicycle for $.50 (1960's) a bag. They were great. I bet he was one of the better-to--do people in Tabor.

    Never, ever heard of boiled peanuts. I roast a bag of peanuts every Sunday. It's a tradition in my country that we finish off the Sunday meal with roasted peanuts in their shells. Will give these a try for a change, although, if I understood correctly, these are eaten as a snack between meals or in front of tv.

    I grew up eating boiled peanuts (Valencia) in SE Alabama too. Ours were always regular…not the more popular today Cajun ones. The best were always sold either on the side of the road on the way to PCB, FL or at football games. I now live in WA State and the only place I can find raw green peanuts is at CBS Nuts here. I make mine either in the crockpot or Instant Pot. I am one of these that prefer the softer and saltier the better! Oh, and we cracked them in our mouths with our teeth. I know you're a proper Southern lady and maybe other people don't eat them like this, but I just put the whole, unopened boiled peanut in my mouth and suck and drink all the salty juice out and then crack it open in my mouth and separate it from the shell and eat it that way and then spit out the shell, just like eating sunflower seeds!
    If you can't do that, you can always just barely crack the shell length wise, pull it out of your mouth, eat the peanut and then throw away the shell!

    It's perfect except for I add some vinegar cause then you get an extra kick of tangy flavor. You should also soak and rinse them several times cause some still have alot of dirt on them.

    I like to make them with about 1/3 the salt. I cant eat the gas station bolt pnuts anymore. Sometimes adding pepper and other spices are nice. I'll do them in pressure cooker sometimes (instantpot) but take her ez or will overcook. Hard to find raw peanuts out west. This is key: green peanuts! I bet the one's you used to dig out of the ground were even better!!!!!

I know that doesn't bother some people but it completely sickens me. I showed him this and God willing we will have some this weekend!

    Enjoyed your video. We live in SC. and get peanuts that are shipped in to the grocery stores. They are not bagged...you just measure out the amount you want, but they will soon be out of season. May I ask you where you get the large bags that you are using in the video?

    • @sissyjollie
      @sissyjollie Před 4 lety +1

      Beverly Watson I found these which are Owen Brothers , at the Fort Bragg Commissary. I have also found them at a local IGA store. I just bought 2 more bags yesterday and store them in my extra refrigerator and they keep all year. The ones that you scoop, as long as they aren’t green peanuts, would keep in a plastic grocery bag with the top tied.

    OK the main requirement for this recipe had to be a southern accent so she passes. I love that she puts a general amount of peanuts but then a specific amount of water. I love it that she wants it to go faster but puts it in the crockpot. I love that the crockpot doesn’t really work. I seriously love this recipe. It’s boiling a peanut.

    When I first posted a video of me making boiled peanuts, I was shocked at the number f my friends living above me (SC) that had never had boiled peanuts. They were primarily in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, , etc., and one from Missouri (that one really surprised me), and also out west in Washington and Oregon.
