In volume 4 of the Erie Lackawanna, we continue operations in the 1970s and tour the EL system from Hoboken to Hornell both trackside and in-cab rides.
We begin with the end of long-distance passenger trains in the late 1960’s and transition into the daily operations of freight and commuter service in the 1970’s, including joint operations with the Central Railroad of New Jersey and brief scenes of the Rahway Valley railroad interchange at Summit, New Jersey.
We close this volume with a cab ride on NY-99 from Binghamton to Hornell and return on train TC-4.

1:11 Lackawanna Station is now a hotel for Scranton. Steamtown had their equipment displayed there at one point.

I was shooting B&W's and slides along the E-L around this time, but never got the variety and the terrific views taken by the Bednars. Mike's narration makes these all the better. Great stuff that everyone thought would always be there, along with semaphores and Camelbacks, right?

My grandparents lived on the DL&W main line west of Painted Post, N.Y. I spent many a summer day watching the trains go by. I also rode the Phobe Snow from Buffalo to Corning, N.Y. a few times. Great experiences.

At :50 a cameo shot of 3067 the RED BARON.
I saw 3067 still in pure CNJ just after CR August 1976.
Sharonville , OHIO.
She was scrapped about 15 years ago.
