Great job. Nice to have a narrator who knows what he's talking about. Thanks Mike.
For real Mike rules!
Thats great footage, thanks for posting it.
Man, that 8mm film cleans up pretty good. At around 2:00 you gotta love a girl who loves trains - whatta girl!

Does anybody have movies of the New Jersey Central leaving Ashley for the last time. It's called the funeral train
Larry kolbicka
Only media of the funeral train we've ever seen was a progression of still photos from Ashley through Phillipsburg. We have never seen any movie footage of the event.
What locomotive was at 1:53; was it Fairbanks Morse or a ALCO MRS-1 (Military Road Switcher)??
Fairbanks Morse H24-66
A Fairbanks Morse H24-66Trainmaster,
At the start of the program,at the site where STEEL Tower was built, is that the Sinter Plant at Bethlehem Steel? Thanks, BP
No-the stack in the background is the CNJ’s Bethlehem engine terminal. Steel tower was built at the west end of small Bethlehem yard. Steel was named after Bethlehem Steel which was on the south side of the Lehigh river, the CNJ was on the north side.
are there any videos of The Blue Comet?
I am not aware of any
I never seen cable-pulled freight cars. Did they work like a funicular?
There was an area outside Wilkes-Barre I believe, where the grade was too steep for standard traction so the pushed them up with cables.
This was how Blue Coal Colliery in Ashley Pa got the loaded coal car’s up the mountain to Mountain Top Pa from the mine before the railroads built a more gradual path up to the top
What's the name of the jazz tune??
What happened to all those Baldwin baby face and FM trainmasters? Cut up for scrap?
All fake sound.
While not original to the footage, much of the sound is authentic to the equipment and what the viewer is seeing, synchronized to the content. Many of the sounds were recorded onsite in the era of the footage. Some sounds were recorded in the same areas - so authentic to the scene as well. Steam sounds are another story as in that era, many people did not have access to recording equipment that could be used in the field. Such equipment was only available to the likes of production companies and a few well-off individuals as it was very expensive to own.
Relax, pal. Much of this was filmed with equipment that had no sound. It might have been cost prohibitive for the camera owner. Just be happy we have this to watch, and these good folks edited sound in the best they could. The alternative is all this history lost. I'd rather watch this with facsimile sound, then nothing at all. Be grateful
