Cost of living isn't the issue -- they have drug problems in places where costs are a fraction of what they are there. Unless housing is totally "free" they would rather spend the money on drugs.

I live in Long Beach. The death rate among the homeless is higher than the national average. It's a common belief that politicians don't do anything or very much because the problem of the homeless will cure itself by dying off from all the drugs that are being distributed by street gangs. The L.A. Gangs tend to their homeless camps like cattle on a ranch. The danger of walking around the encampments isn't from the people who live there but from the gangs who don't know who you are and feel threatened by your presence. No one is stopping the gangs, stopping the drugs, stopping the deaths, or the indifference of the politicians.

What tends to happen is you lose your job, then your house and depression sets in so people start self medicating with alcohol. (just to make the time go by, when you are broke and cant afford anything, life is really boring) Eventually you start wanting to sleep away the boring, its a slow form of suicide. Fentanyl is really good for that.

@@redwolfexr The thing of it is, is that all of the misfortune you describe does not instantly happen. There is a definite point of no return, sure but before that is a window of opportunity for action. You lose your job, you get another. Maybe it's not as good or pays as much as your last so, you get a SECOND job, if necessary. If you are paying on a mortgage, you put your house up for sale if you know you're not going to be able to make the payments BEFORE it goes into foreclosure. Bank the equity (if there is any) then RENT A ROOM. If you have a family and this isn't an option, then the wife has to work as well. If the kids have to latchkey for awhile, so be it. Hey, I'm just throwing out possible avenues to take. My point was, DO SOMETHING LONG BEFORE FINANCIAL DISASTER, which is something MOST people can see coming, while some may try to 'credit card' there way out of it. Epic fail that. Also, you turn to drugs, just take yourself out and quit using valuable air someone else could make good use of.

Instead of us sending 72Billion dollars to Ukraine maybe we should work on the problem, problems such as homelessness in the United States. They don’t care about us and it shows they could help alot of people out. I’m not saying that a large population of homeless are not drug addicts but not all, anyways we will help other countries, bail them out again and again but not do anything for the people in the states!!

As a city you can have uncontrolled homeless's living everywhere on streets or find a patch of land somewhere and have them stay in there but with city control and assistance so that they are not as much a burden to the city . Control the area for garbage disposal and pickup, food assistance, living with some sort of rule structure and health assistance. Yes it would cost the city but look at the alternative of how and where they are living right now, the city probably don't have a clue who all live on the streets, opposed to a place with some controlled parcel of land, and it'd be much safer too for everyone around as well

This is also a city and county problem. Not issue, problem. What we see here is the County of Los Angeles, across the street from the City of Gardena, where this nonsense is not allowed. Small City Council, small Police Dept. that squashes the problem before it gets to this point. Los Angeles County is so large, it's pretty much impossible to control this type of vagrancy. Also, in a place as large as L.A. County, too many Indian chiefs, and not enough Indians. County leaders point fingers at each other, and nothing gets accomplished. These vagrants get food stamps and G.R., so why not do drugs and not try to better yourself without a care in the world? I'm in Culver City, another independent city, that had a similar problem. Until we outlawed vagrancy within our city limits early this year. We won't accept that kind of lifestyle in our community. And don't argue with the Culver City Police Dept. Those who know, know. (Gestapo) Follow the Golden Rule, and you'll be fine.
I have been all over the world. Been to third world countries, with dirt roads, no running water for three days, and locals riding donkeys for transportation. Their streets look nothing like this. Why? drug use is prison time guaranteed, mentally ill area placed into institutions, and people take pride in themselves. We have help here for those who want it, but those who don't, well, watch this video again.

The solution? Jail them if they don't leave? Mandate their going to government housing? What about the tax ramifications for these ideas because the taxpayers are going to have to pay for the ideas. A lot of the homeless suffer from drug and alcohol and mental health issues and are not going to be easy to assist because it is a complicated problem. I am with you 100% in terms of it being objectionable but my point is to say this is not an easy issue to solve.

The sidewalks should be clear of debris, human waste etc.
