  • An Emory professor and department chair, who Thursday became one of the most widely-broadcast faces of the exploding nationwide student protest movement over Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza, said Friday she was first concerned "that this would escalate" as Atlanta police and Georgia troopers responded, and "this would become bedlam, and mayhem -- and it did immediately."

    They gave her a warning they said "ma'am you need to step back, ma'am you need to step back" What part of that did she not understand. She got treated like a normal citizen and is astonished that she had to follow someone else's direction for once, which she failed to do. So she found out the hard way. 1. The cops were there to de escalate the situation. 2. She was escalating it. 3. She was then warned. 4. She then ignored the warning. 5. She found out the hard way a lesson that most people learn when they are much younger if you mess around you will find out.

    I would hate to be a cop in this day and age where arresting someone who is resisting can become "a brutal attack" at any moment.
    Nobody has an answer, we hire a special kind of dickhead to protect us and we expect them all to not be assholes? I'm more surprised more cops are able to keep control under some of the conditions and risks they have to work through. People just ignore the fact that cops are humans, that cop is someone's child, and probably someone's parent.
    Professors allowing, supporting, and now COMMITTING assault against police officers is whole new level of wrong. What if future prospective student just watched this professor physically strike her father! What kind of teacher is she to support and demonstrate that it's ok to do this?
    Does anyone know why she wasn't immediately fired? I think this goes beyond 'tenure'.

    Here is some advice from "A Complete Idiots Guide to Law" that these college professors, let alone their students, don't seem to understand (1)NEVER go over to a cop and start up with him(2)NEVER try to interfere with police work. You will very likely end up in serious trouble if you do either of them . If you believe the police are acting inappropriate , call 911. The same way you would report any other crime you see
