This is awesome, thank you! My Mom is going out of town in a few weeks and I really want to surprise her with an updated bathroom. I'm always confident in my ability to make something beautiful, but as a novice I watch videos to ensure I'm adding quality. Videos like these give me that peace of mind. Thanks for all you do. 🙏
How did the bathroom surprise pan out?
@@wendellhullett7711 it didn't. She ended up shortening her trip, and I haven't attempted it again.🙃
@@nca4794 just do it
I've helped my mentor do a couple showers but never confident to do one on my own. The more videos I watch you explaining this the more confident I feel. I have to redo my own shower and figured I'd do that one on my own. Your videos are legit!! Thanks for being you!!
awesome!DM me on IG if you ever need help!
Your mentor, who you can meticulously study, who you can ask questions to, and who can assist you and correct you as you go wasn't enough to make you feel confident but some dude on CZcams did the trick?
Thanks for the awesome, detailed tutorial! I really like the use of the fiber tape reinforcement on and in the corners!
The use of the marine waterproof calking is a fantastic idea, suspenders and a belt, I love it! I was a building contractor well before these products were introduced and now that I'm retired I have become my wife's personal contractor, LOL! This really takes the mystery out of using this (and other) product(s) and allows me to set forth with confidence. For that sir I thank you very much!!!
Taking the time to show the tools used is huge. So many content creators don't show this step. Very well done. Big fan of your IG and YT channels. You're going places!
Perfect timing! Literally doing this to my shower this weekend. Thank you for the tips. I really appreciate the up close shots and the segment of the materials you'll need.
Yes! Awesome! Good luck. If you ever need help DM me
I Just found you last week. Love your videos. Your videos are professional, very informative, to the point ( they don't drag out for 45 min) and you smile often., love your personality, You have become my favorite youtuber
Great video. I like how detailed your videos are.
I've been looking for someone that made this simple. Thank you!
I subbed because your videos are short and to the point. Nice editing.
Excellent video but then again, all your videos are very helpful. Thank you so much.
Extremely helpful, and entertaining my friend. Missed the 6" mesh link and waaay over paid for the redgard version. I've done a ton of floor tile, this was my first shower/wall tile. Thanks for the step by step!
Love your videos my man! I’m a contractor in NH as well, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! I’m In Moultonborough
Ahh dude i would have totally screwed it up. So glad i found you. Doing my first ever shower surround ever. Like tomorrow. On a second floor!.. i don't need leaks and this is by far the best video i have found. Thanks man subscribed and liked!...
thanks bro. you have helped me a-lot. i have a shower project next week and I haven't been able to sleep. now i can sleep for sure. 😍
Loved the video. Ready to prep my bath 🙂🙃
Nice video. Good narrating job. thanks for posting this content.
Keep on keeping on misha thank you so much
Red Guard is amazing lol. I can smell it through the phone 😂😂
I have a shower that the tile floor is worn. I'd like to know do i have to tear out the sub concrete floor and put a new liner? i just want to replace the floor tile. Thx
I heard (and experienced) that redgard won't stick well to modified thinset (like versabond). What would you say about that?
rockstar... great personality and info bruh!
thank you so much!
Thanks Misha
Red guard label states to dilute 1-4 parts with water to use as a primer, ?
Do you still need to add adhesive to corners going up the wall even though you're about to apply redgard?
GREAT VIDEO NEW SUB DOING MY RESEARCH IN DOING A SHOWER SO IVE BEEN WATCHING MANY VIDEOS JUST LOOKING WHATS THE BEST BACK BOARD AS THEY HAVE DIFFERENT KINDS PLUS IVE SEEN SOME R HARMFUL TO BREATHE WHILE CUTTTING ... PLANNING THE PREP PART ALSO ANY MORE TIPS U RECOMMEND
LOL your Too Funny. Love the video and the effort you made making it!!!
Thanks for the video but what is the white thing on the cement board??
Good video, just found you. Question, on the bottom where you stopped the Durock on top of the tub flange you ran a bead of the Hydro Ban and smushed in in with your fingers, How do you deal with this unevenness when you tile? Do you just float the tile over it, fill it with thinset to even it out? P.S. I have never laid a piece of tile in my life. But I plan on it. Thanks.
What kind of thinset is best to apply on waterproof membrane?
What extra attention is given around the water lines?
What if your red guard cracked. how can u fix that? I used triton backer board and mortar with fiberglass tape over seams and then redguard but it got flaky in certain areas and even chipped up a little not a bunch but I’m scared
If I am doing a walk in shower can this mesh be used where the cement board meets the Kerdi shower tray? Or should I use kerdi band?
I'll be tiling a shower with 3x6 subway tiles so can I use mastic on this product?
Can I use RedGard over green board?
I’m 2 years late, I know. I fiberglass & this was interesting to me. Just have a question. Does it smell?
First time I watch your channel, been following you on IG for a few months already. Love your way of filming bro, definitely subbing and notification gang 😎
Yo thank you so much! Can’t tell you how much that means to me. I spend a lot of time on this video and you just validated it:) you rock
Can you apply Redgard directly on drywall ?!
Great video. Please note RedGard recommends that the second coat be rolled on at 90 degree angle to the original coat to avoid the pin holes.
Do you remove the tubs plastic film before hydroban the flange?
What are the white patches on the durock?
Do you prefer the durock cement board? If wall is not perfectly straight do you redo wall to ensure plum?
Thanks!
If the walls are wavy and your talking about 3/8 of an inch or more difference in and out. You can float the wall. Or you redo the wood studs so when you put the durock on you don't have to worry about anything
My seam tape is red, same thing? Thanks
Thank you
Thanks for this video! I’m about to redguard my bathroom and it was very helpful. I do have 2 questions I hope you can help me with though.
1. How do you handle the drywall joint between the ceiling and walls? I saw you used redguard right up to the ceiling but how do you seal that joint? I know you’re not supposed to use redguard over joint compound so I’m confused as to how I should tape that joint and if I should tape over the redguard or under. Any tips?
2. Similarly, if I have a vertical butt joint between a redguarded shower wall and non-redguarded wall, how do I tape that joint if redguard does not adhere to joint compound?
Thank you so much in advance for your help!
Since he won’t answer I’ll do my best….I did not get any red guard on the ceiling under the assumption that spackle and/or paint won’t stick to it.
Can I do this over plywood
What is the name of that tape you use?
How much red guard you need for shower?
Any alternitives to hydroban
So you mud all of your joints n screw holes?
Can i use aquadefense on redgard?
What type of waterproof coating is Redgard waterproof coating
Can I use the Schluter Kerdinband instead of the fiber fabric with the Red Guard?
Came here to ask the same thing. What did you end up doing?
How many gallons did u use
That's interesting.
Hey Misha. Nice vid!
May I suggest something… be sure to use a small mic on your pullover in your studio. It feels like u have to scream… :/
Don’t paint it? Roll it? That’s the same thing pretty much. Of course you don’t have to worry about the lines like when you paint. Also, i do 3 coats just to make sure!
A few questions:
Any reason you didn’t red guard the ceiling? Would it be appropriate to use on a shower pan? Lastly would you ever use a separate system like Schulter over top?
Thanks!!!
you only need this for wet areas or a steam room. Also i would not mix different shower systems:)
What's the fabric name?
You applied that over the cement board label.
What is the name of the fabric ?
Good.
Love your work dude. Shocked you didn’t pull the durock stickers off… do u think it makes a difference?
Gotta take the stickers off bruh.
.......and Redgard SUX
@psyphen2286 well you don't have a CZcams video content ,yet you bash this guy.. you sux
Hi you're good amigo 🙋♂️👍🇵🇷...
Is it better using the thin set on the joints instead of this with the fiberglass strip?
both might be best
I have a question. About the alkalinity of the tape and board. Wire tape doesn't interfere w the cement as far as alkalinity is concerned.. some.sort of chemical covering on it. Is fiberglass tape better ,?
Do you prefer durock over the other cement boards?
Yes i think it's great
would you use RedGard for a steam shower, at least 2-3 coats?
The shit it expensive….use ALL of it….LOL
Cement board vs drywall? Can you red gard over drywall?
I never do. I believe you are supposed to prime it if you do. But I’m any wet area I would never put drywall.
leaving the sticket on cement board gave me eye twitching
For how outrageously expensive it is, I hope it works…just put it in my walk-in shower.
Only thing is…how could you know how well it works unless you find out 5-10 years from now long after the fact?
Why not go board?
I rolled on 4 coats.
So why don’t they come up with different colors. And since it’s waterproof we don’t need to tiled over it.
So you can see what you painted with out issue.
Always read the instructions before using product
I see you’re a fan of Scarface 😂
Where’s the video just before this step?
Red Gard does not require fabric. Its not the instructions.
Well they have their own seam tape so..
3/4 nap roller ?
Just an FYI for anyone watching. This does not apply to hardibacker. Those boards require a primer coat
thank you for sharing that!
Yeah, I was going to ask.... Do you ever use the Primer Coat? I'm about to apply to Hardiebacker, and had heard this was a necessary step, as indicated in this comment.
@@bradpower5266 definitely use a primer coat. You run the risk of the hardie sucking the redgard dry and not adhering properly
@@eddiefromcali Good to know, Thank you.
"looking for pin holes" Hmmm, i think I'll stick to Schluter
DO NOT USE PREMIXED MORTAR OVER RED GUARD….even though every Home Depot and Lowe’s guy does.
It says so in the Red Guard label AND premixed mortar labels!
you didn't prime the board!!! should have primered it first
Jesus, what, are you in the 90's?...Who still uses cement board? smh... Kudos for the good waterproofing though...I like the Mapei aqua defense...Better color.
share you your mom, lol im actually going to
Sorry bud but you can't read guard over taping mud what you did and you didn't do a three-to-one mix to make the primer and roll it with primer first sorry Nishi
Learn how to use it, by never using it. Failure
Definitely do NOT install your tape with red guard!
How should the tape be affixed?
It's fiberglass cloth, not tape / paper tape like for drywall. I think the idea is the redgard penetrates it and if there's any joint movements in the corners it is much less likely to crack because it's pretty much fiberglass reinforced
*Edit* it's not fiberglass, but if you look at the link it's specifically designed for liquid membranes
Two seconds in, DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS MAN! He has no clue what he is talking about. Skip and watch the others.
Shame on me for not subscribing? Shame on you for spouting garbage. Stopped watching at that point. Bye.
Red hairs is a horrible product! Been using for years but have had fails. Look at tile coaches videos on it. He used in glass boss etc. it’s total crap
