      I have long said that it's more about Max than it is about the car. That is shown by how far off the pace everyone else is in the Red Bull. Max is a motor racing savant. He would find a way to win in any of the other top-four teams. He would demand they made the car as quick as it could be with a very pointy front end that no one else could drive quickly. Then he would win in it. He is simply on another level.

      Shane van Gisbergen has raced and found success in open wheel, motocross, quarter-midgets, V8 Supercars, GT3 races, NASCAR, and drifting. No matter what he climbs behind the wheel of, he's got a good shot at contending for the win.

He has the coldness of Schumacher, consistency of Hamilton, talent of Senna and work ethic of Kobe Bryant. 3 hours after winning the 2022 f1 WC, Max was found competing in IRacing lobbies. No doubt he will crush the competition in the next years.

    Although I find the title of this video a bit odd (Everybody is noticing mate, everybody), it gives a decent overview of where Max came from and where he might be heading if this all continues. Some minor things. Max did not "only a year in F3", he also gained some single seater experience in the Florida Summer Series where he drove for (I kid you not) the Ferrari Junio Team. I also think a mentioning of the influence Jos had in all of this should have been in there, it is a vital ingredient in who Max is today.
    Albon didn't bail, he got sacked. tbh, this has proven to be a good thing for Alex, look how he has found a home with Williams and is actually doing great things for them. 8:00 one of my favorite races by Max, a masterclass in wet weather driving and one of the best saves I have ever seen.

      Pretty sure the point of the video was that Verstappen poisoned the well for incoming drivers in F1. Rookies get a lot more scrutiny now thanks to how stellar Verstappen was with quite literally the bare minimum amount of experience (one season of F3) when he joined, roundly defeating the much more experienced Sainz. Compare that to the reception for rookies since then, such as Yuki, Zhou, and Sargeant, etc who genuinely weren't bad but are trashed online because they've been beaten by much more experienced teammates. Sargeant's average finish to Albon in the races was ~10 seconds last year, which actually puts him slightly closer to his teammate than Piastri was to his own, yet the reception could not be more different between the two

      @dannysrigid Před 2 měsíci +3

      Likely Jos wasn't mentioned because of his past indiscretions. But he WAS a "driving" force in Max's development as a racer. Max decided he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and Jos pushed him hard to become the best in any situation. A favorite story is when Jos took him to icy snow covered racetracks in the winter months and "forced" Max to endure the cold and LEARN to control his cart with little or no grip. That LEARNED skill shows throughout his F1 career (even when he was "crashtappen" he was LEARNING the limits). BE comfortable in discomfort, respond rather than react, and most importantly if this is what you want to do with your life, don't let ANYTHING be more important that your goal (NO half hearted attempts, no distractions).

Red Bull has let some good drivers go looking for another Verstappen. But the catch 22 is that another Verstappen isn't going to race for Red Bull and live in the shadow of the real Verstappen. So all their eggs are in his basket for better or worse. He's lived up to it so far. It will be interesting and possibly epic to see how long he can carry that weight.

    I still think RB should keep Checo though, yea he's been shit lately but he's already proven that he IS actually incredibly skilled...particularly at defense and as a teammate which is invaluable. They simply WONT find a driver that can consistently challenge Max, there's exactly ONE driver on the grid currently who could and it's the Legendary Fernando Alonso himself and even he most likely wouldn't be able to beat Max. So they should just focus on a driver who's ok with being the #2, who understands that they simply don't have what it takes to outclass the best driver on the grid and instead devotes themselves fully to being a great teammate and providing defense when necessary (basically whenever RB gets shafted by new regs and their car is technically worse than other teams, like in 2021 when they had a far inferior machine to the monstrous Mercs). Sergio may not be totally happy being #2, as he IS a competitor and wants to be THE guy, which is a great thing and mindset...but reality has shown that he simply doesn't have the same level of talent and skill. But he's a perfect choice for their #2 unless they can snag Alonso. So it looks like Checo should be their guy. But if he doesn't start grabbing podiums they WILL release him, despite the fact that they currently don't NEED a second driver because Max scores more than enough points to win the constructors all by himself, that WILL change and they need a driver who won't finish outside the top 5 much...so the way I see it is as long as Checo gets back on form this coming season (last year was very weird for him) he will be their #2 for the foreseeable future.

    • @WeAreTheGrid.
      @WeAreTheGrid.  Před 3 měsíci +4

      Checo made some crucial mistakes during last season, although he did end up 2nd, so in terms of championship position he did good. Which is what counts eventually. He'll be on the grid in 2024, although 2025 is a guessing game at the moment.
      Verstappen just eats his teammates alive.

      Max beat Vettel on a regular basis in an inferior car.. Even when Max started at the age of 17 at Torro Rosso he battled with Kimi , Rosberg and Vettel and the Red Bull team in some races.. And later on Max at RedBull with an under powered Renault engine, he beat Vettel in his Ferrari regular.. Vettel had a more then excellent period with Red Bull with their double diffuser, after that he lost of Ricciardo and left to Ferrari and than he slowly lost his mojo and things only get worse for him. Max already broke most of Vettel records and still rewriting the record books there were Hamilton and Vettel never came close too, who where never this consistent over a hole season.. And Max is just 26 and probably not even in his prime jet and of course just like every good driver, Max is also depending if Red Bull keep delivering him a good car, but probably in the next coming years Max will continue with rewriting the record books with the longest drivers contract in F1 history untill 2028..

His online driving has inspired him to try new shit every single lap on the real track, finding new lines, new areas of grip (especially in the wet) and generally try moves nobody else would even think possible in a real car on a real track. Many times you will hear him say things like "I tried a couple things and understand the car better now" after he won with a 30 seconds lead. Because he's not just doing the laps, he is constantly trying to improve with every single lap. Max was not born raised, he was created and forged. His parents are drivers, then he has the propper genes to the job. Jos was determinated to create the ultimate driver, so, he named his son Max (Greatest in latin) Emillian (Eager, Rival, Laborious or Imitantig in slavic, romanian and latin), a fierce name for a boy. Then, when boy Max was interested in races, his father created the strictest, harshest, most hardworking and immersive environment to forge him like a ruthless dwarf to his offspring. Jos wanted Max not to make his mistakes when he was a driver in the 90's/2000's. So, he went full juggernaut on max with questionable behavior. Nowadays, Max is a mix of traumas, Schumacher driving style, Senna's raw talent and ruthlessness and Nelson Piquet's personality and cunningness with Dutch flavour. Jos is despicable, but he created a potencial legend with huge chances to dominate every motorsport category possible.

    What is sad about all of this is that the majority of fans are not appreciating what we are witnessing. He is day by day just making more and more of his legacy. He's on an absurd level in terms of perfection, execution, timing and.... just everything.
    Surely most of these fans are lewis hamilton fans who clearly didn't speak out about how boring it was when he kept winning over, and over, and over again.
    I for one am extremely appreciative of watching him race, every single time.

    Except he doesn't just like racing and has said on several occasions that he achieved everything he wanted in 2021 and wants to enjoy more of life. If Formula 1 changes too much to his disliking, he will quit. That may happen sooner than you think. He's already said that the current number of races is over the limit for everyone involved, yet Formula 1 wants to add even more.

    He is still going to need a car that will get him there. Vettel is the perfect example of a great driver who went to a team with a mediocre car and he couldn’t pull off another championship. Talent will only get you so far.

    As much as Max is the current GOAT, and I have every respect for his immense talent, he's riding high on the shoulders of Adrian Newey. TOGETHER, they are this good.
    It'll be interesting to see Max in a new team. Just like watching Hamilton in a less competitive car last couple of years, and Schumacher in early Ferrari years, Vettel the same, and Senna when Honda quit F1, etc, etc. I respect Max, but worship at the feet of Newey.

    I wouldn’t doubt if Max becomes the greatest of all time. He won Bahrain by 22 seconds this weekend. In F1 time, that’s like winning by a weeks worth of hours. It’s insanity. I do believe they have the best car, but Perez has the same car and finished 22 seconds behind this kid. Amazing

    People talk bad about his dad and his harass upbringing. But all of that combined with his natural skill has made him a lethal driver. Same with Hamiltons harsh upbringing. People don’t understand the importance of this and the crazy drive and sacrifice it takes to become this legendary. This is why nobody will honestly ever match Max. It’ll never happen again.

    I disagree when you say "Verstappen is an exception and not the norm", I think a solid reason why Verstappen is so good is because literally all he does is race, either irl or on the sim with iRacing and what not, not just F1 cars either. He's essentially practiced much more than any other driver and I believe the new generation of drivers know this too, hence why we're seeing a new generation of potential verstappen rivals coming through. I think like any generation, verstappen has upped the game and is becoming the new norm.

  • @niall21

    He's still a super aggressive driver... Las Vegas? Just shot up the inside of LeClerc with no chance of a fair or safe overtake. No one fights him right now so we just don't see the aggression as often, but it's still there for sure and when he's in a less dominant car we'll see it again.

    Honestly the difference between Verstappen and the other RB driver is so huge because the second RB driver has never really been a proper top driver so far. If instead of Perez we had someone like Alonso or Leclerc in a RB right now, the competition between the two would be so much closer than it is right now, and I wouldn't exclude that Verstappen could potentially not come out on top either. He is the best driver in the best car right now, just like Schumacher and Hamilton were. Personally I still think that the best driver we have ever seen has been Alonso, he managed to win two championships in a car that car facing actual competition. Stats wise is obviously gonna be Verstappen for years to come, and I doubt anyone will ever be able to top his statistics.

    I like Verstappen. He is arguably one of the best or the best on the grid today, but let's be honest, it's easy to be claimed as "matured" when ur not fighting in the middle of the pack, but leading it. The real test will come when others are in the runnings right alongside of u.
