  • Ian reviews the Hypto Krypto
    Available here: www.boardshop.co.uk/brands/ha...
The HaydenShapes Hypto Krypto surfboard in FutureFlex Technology. Years ago, shaper Hayden Cox surprized his teamrider Craig Anderson with an unusual little board. Wide point forward with a pulled in tail it looked like something from the seventies but brought up-to-date with the state-of-the-art FutureFlex Technology.
Everyone was talking about the HK and either had one or was getting one. With all this hype, we thought we'd better find out what all the fuss was about!
After some extremely arduous product testing it's been easy to see why the HK is still one of the most sought after and fastest selling surfboards worldwide. If you regularly surf onshore waist to chest high slop but would like a board that'll handle those rare classic days and trips to indo as well the Hypto Krypto is the board for you. Yes it's great to have a selection of boards in your quiver, but having one board that you can ride in all conditions is surely the Holy Grail.
The HaydenShapes Hypto Krypto blends tradition and modern performance and really does deserve the often overused 'one board quiver' tag for its versatility and ability to handle surf conditions from waist high beach breaks, to well overhead barrels.
Hayden explains how the Hypto Krypto came into being: "I was shaping a couple of twin-fins and they had those traditional wide swallowtail designs and I found they went too straight. They didn't want to fit into the pocket. So I grabbed that same design and put my semi-gun rounded pintail into it, blended the curves and it worked!"
The HK runs with a rolled vee from the nose into a slight single concave, blending into a double vee out through the tail giving it heaps of speed and plenty of control from rail to rail.
FutureFlex construction is a stringer-less parabolic carbon fibre frame, shaped out of high density EPS foam and built from custom designed materials exclusive to the Hayden Shapes brand. The technology delivers a high energy, rapid spring back resulting in ultimate speed and drive.
FutureFlex boards are constructed using custom designed high performance materials. However, like any surfboard, this does not prevent the board from breakage or compressions. If damage occurs, dry out all water from the EPS core before repairing it using Epoxy resin.

Your timing for this is interesting....I just got back from K59 in El Salvador. It was overhead the entire time. A few days before I left, I pulled out my Hypto and decided to take it, and it was fantastic!

What a Great video. I hat size do you recommend for an intermediate/experienced surfer. It’s for traveling to Indo, and catch decent size

    Hi Ian!
If you're trying to decide between the Holy Hypto versus Hypto Krypto for a daily driver 3ft - 6ft beachbreaks, some points. Which would you choose and why?

Never clicked with a board so fast!! 2+1 for me as well. Wish I had picked one up sooner.

I surf it with the Rasta twin + 1 set up which works good. Never tried any other 2+1 though

Hey guys, great review. Any advice as to whether I should go for a HK or Los quiver killer? I surf a fish in small stuff, and a 29L ghost for when it’s pumping. Lookin to get somethin for that 3-8 foot range that can perform well in barrels, but also can be surfed vertically well. Don’t want to lose performance in the top to bottom surfing - for context, primarily east coast of US, but travel a good amount to west coast, central america, caribbean, etc. Thanks!
