- Stumbled upon the new version of the Sushi foam short board at Costco the other day. It was only $85! and looked fun so I had to get one and try it out. In this video I give a review of what I think about this board and if you should get one.
Little break from my surfing new spots challenge cause I wanted to do a little review of this board but I think I'll be taking out this board to a new spot tomorrow.
Love these type of reviews, it really helps those trying to get into the sport to spend what they can scrape together on the most decent option(s). I remember those days, I know it is helping others out there!
Mahalos bra, appreciate the comment 🙏🏾🤙🏾
You’re so chill dude, love your style and energy. Hope to see you out there someday!
Really appreciate the compliment my braddah 🙏🏾
Wow! I’m impressed that you could ride that! I saw that board, looks fun , but for the small & young. It would be good for Sandy’s, Makapuu. You definitely need a bigger wave. I can’t wait to see you ride it in bigger conditions.🤙🏻
Much Mahalos and yes can’t wait for more size 🤙🏾
You ripped it up even in tiny surf! You’re an inspiration as I got this bowed yesterday before checking your video! 🤙🏽
Appreciate the kind words. Board takes some getting used to but once you get the hang of it it’s fun. Try and put legit fins in, instead of the flimsy ones that come with it 🤙🏾
Definitely looking good bruddah riding 5'8", 52 years old. I like the tail design, I played around with different variations of a bat tail for many many years... All of them were good some were really good. Shoots, beer money right there - lots of board for your buck. 👌🏼🤙🏼
Mahalos bra, appreciate it. Definitely worth the money for the board 🤙🏾
My neighbor gave me one of the old ones when he moved to Portugal and I still switch off between it and my Shortboard on small days when I don’t feel like burning my arms. I’ve actually been able to get it on rail a bit. The tail shape on that new one is pretty interesting. Rad content, just subscribed! 🤙
Realy appreciate it🙏🏾 I’d like to give the old one another try 🤙🏾
Thanks for the vid bro!
We've got Costco down here in Sydney Australia but I'm not sure if they're selling boards yet.
You shred bro!!
Thanks bra! 🙏🏾 I’ll bet they’ll have those boards soon enough 🤙🏾
I bought the fish tail version a few years ago. It’s essentially the same thing. I’m 6’ and weigh 205lbs. Thing is super fun. 🤙
Nice bra, we similar size and I agree fun edition to the quiver 🤙🏾
Braddah I just watch both of your videos, I like learn how for surf, so I just came from Costco “ iwilei” seen da sushi board, but i think should gain some hrs on the Jerry Lopez 8ft board, then upgrade to the sushi. Soild video!!! 🤙🏼
Ya bra that’s what I would do exactly! 🤙🏾
Cool summer board 🤙🏾. Problem is people buy them at costco and then sell it for $100 more. I might have to get one
You should fun to mess around on 🤙🏾
ya dude that think is guna be so sick on a big day!!!! i rode a 5'7 the other day.. was very to say the least! beautiful day over there!! see yah in the next 1!!!
Dang 5’7”! Ya hopefully bigger today 🤙🏾
@@NobuSurf yeeew
Lmao BROOOOO!!! I've been waiting on somebody to do this. I'm pushing play now!
Perfect! 😂 I recommend adding the board to the quiver. Fun to mess around on especially anywhere with a shore break 🤙🏾
Brah im so glad you made this video, I almost bought this board the other day off someone haha
Bra You should get it, fun to figure out and surfs surprisingly well. Rode it today on little bit bigger waves, gonna post that video first thing tomorrow morning. 🤙🏾
If you didn't already get one, they might not be back in stock.
Also, compared to the Wavestorm, the Sushi is a noticeably denser foam, and the bottom skin is thicker and stiffer than the Wavestorm.
Yes I haven’t seen them since i picked this one up and I agree the foam and skin is definitely denser
I was wondering about that board. Did you notice if they changed the fin design on the longer board they sell? (I just watched the Jerry Lopez 8' review and saw the two prong fin design) I rode one a lot in my 40s and was greatly disappointed by it on fast vertical head high waves. I was 6'-5" and 260. The old fin design would just fold and lose grip on the water when I got to speed and tried to carve the bottom into a snap of any kind. I put on another 40 pounds, so the fin box design would be essential.
Congrats that you're arthritis free and still able to stand up on the board at 52. Castor oil and polyphenols are helping me regain some flexibility at 51.
I hope all your days are well.
Yes the Sushi has fin boxes for futures style fins and actually someone told me that the latest Gerry Models also now have futures style fins. I put good stiff fins on all my foamies and they surf much better that way. Yes I’m grateful my body still feels good, I do a 15 minute stretch routine daily and that really helps me move. Hoping you regain more of your flexibility and get in the water 🤙🏾
Wow.. thanks, and for the humor.. ' The 'Guest' board.. make them prove it (before letting them ruin one of your 'investments').
😂I like it
I saw those at Costco HK and should have grabbed one for my kid.
💯 percent! These would be absolutely perfect for a grom 🤙🏾
Those foamies have a tone of volume. Good for old guys.
Agreed 🤙🏾
That's epic! Wouldn't it be easier if you dropped the middle fin and left it as a twin?
Thats a good idea, I’ll have to try it as a twin one of these sessions 🤙🏾
my thoughts exactly. The middle fin position looks too forward.
What happens with out the center fin?
Will it work as a black ball beater?
Been out of the water for a long time due to some health matters. Maybe l could body board it?
Thanks for doing this research!
You might have helped me get off the couch?
Get out there even if you have to use it as a body board, you’ll feel better guarantee. Tho I’d recommend using the Gerry 8 foot foamie when coming back from a long lay off. Just saw them for $99 at my Costco 🤙🏾
I have that board (didn’t buy it at costco, they make a few different versions of it, mine is the sushi CBC), and it’s very easy to paddle and drop, but very difficult to carve on it (2”3/4 thickness or similar and 21” wide). All in all, it’s an ok board for the type of conditions you see in this video, but not much else… $85 seems like a fair price.
I’ve surfed the CBC a few times and this new version seems to work a bit better. Took it out on near head high conditions in this video and was pretty fun 🤙🏾 czcams.com/video/01NqgaQeSR4/video.htmlsi=UwNe2K-wdmoQmXYH
Mmm 🤔, maybe 6'8" (not foamy) isn't too small even for me (5'8", 165 lbs.), an inexperienced surfer, after all...I had been wondering. Thanks for the inspiration!
That would work for you, probably better as an egg or fish shape versus a step up board. 🙏🏾🤙🏾
@@NobuSurf It is indeed a fish shape, Strive Bully, quite chunky 🙂 Thanks for the tip!
Costco needs to sponsor you at this point haha
Right! I was thinking the same thing. Costco where you at? Or Maybe a Gerry Lopez, Scott Burke sponsor 😂
Man, Waikiki is awesome 👍, id be happy on an old door out there.
Probably even cost more too
Mahalo
Cocoa Beach FL Hello
Lol 😂 Mahalos 🙏🏾 I surfed Cocoa Brach when I was vanlifing will be back out there someday 🤙🏾
pretty sweet
🙏🏾🤙🏾
Can't beat that price of $85!
Right 🤙🏾
Do they list volume?
I couldn’t find volume listed on the board or online
Damn that thing looks pretty good!?!
Has potential, still getting the hang of it but definitely worth $85 🤙🏾
Is it at Honolulu Costco?
Yes, they had both the foamies I ride there last weekend 🤙🏾
@@NobuSurf Great, I'll check it out thanks!
is it worth it for a beginner
@@avabold5294 I think so, it’s cheap, durable and floats well for a short board as long as you under 200lbs. Tho you’ll get more waves and have an easier time with the $99 Gerry Lopez board. 🤙🏾 Here’s my review video of that board czcams.com/video/P8IGCzsuv44/video.htmlsi=AlMAl1ud4ADnu8sp
What are your dimensions?
The board is 5’8” x 22 x 2.75 and I’m 6 foot 200lbs ish 🤙🏾
@@NobuSurf Thankyou, I am the same weight but 1 1/2 inches taller. Do you have any other recommendations?
Thanks for the video it was very helpful. I need a smaller board that's buoyant to take on smaller waves, and still be able to slash.
With a traction pad. Watch out California Board Company.
😂🤙🏾
Is it from Costco? I’m a beginner, sign me up!
Yessah! You should get the SB Sushi and the 8 foot Gerry Lopez. Can get both for under $200 and you’d be set for at least the first year of surfing. See you in the water! 🤙🏾
200 lbs is almost 91 kgs and it’s pretty rare to be able to catch waist high waves on a 5’8” board at that weight! Good board and good rider!
Really appreciate the comment, mahalos 🙏🏾🤙🏾
When I saw the leash plug I started dying 😂
Right 😂
So far it hasn’t been an issue tho
How can anybody make a surfboard for that money?
That’s exactly what I was thinking and somehow it’s actually a fun board 🤙🏾
You will get used to it in no time.
Thanks Bra, I hope so 🤙🏾
can you duck dive it
Yes, easy to duck dive 🤙🏾
@@NobuSurf really even smaller guys? looks like a fun board for someone that wants to transition from longboarding to shortboarding
I do not believe that's $85
It really is $85.99, you can barley see the price in the opening clip. I’ll see if I have a better shot of the price 🤙🏾
@NobuSurf I believe you, I was just saying I cannot believe they re that low of a price
Im another 20 older and 20 heavier so i guess i wont be gettingthis one...good review tho
Almost completely machine made offshore with no tariffs. To charge more would be robbery!
