Old man video surf journal. 52 Year old getting back into short board mode. I'm hoping I can continue to ride a short board into my 70s.
After almost a year on Maui and 2 years on the road in the van we decided to go home, how long we stay is any one’s guess 😂
We definitely gonna do round two across the country some day.

Surfing Kaisers Waikiki, Hawaii: Spot #26 Searching For Head Dips
Family in town and small surf after our crazy run of swell made me not get in the water for 5 days but finally got in the water for Spot #26 Kaisers and it was super fun. I caught over 30 waves with a handful of head dips and no bouncing off the reef so I call that a success. Hopefully be back on my regular postings very soon. Mahalos for watching!

Almost opted for Spot 21 to be Threes or Queens but I just couldn't get myself to join the insane crowds at both spots. While Fours isn't the best wave there was no one there and I caught over 20 waves and a few of them were really fun. Many more spots to come and possibly a learning to foil in your 50s series. I was set on making Queens spot #18 but as I got closer to the break I realized there was a contest going, so had to make an audible and decided to redo Pops, since my first video surfing there was terrible. This session was head high maybe slightly over head and a lot of fun.

I finally got a decent day at Ala Moana Bowls to check off Spot #17. Also ended up finishing the session with a few fun ones at Rock Piles. Made it back from Portland and itching to get back in the water. Concessions only had 6 guys out which is a light crowd for that spot so I decided to make Concessions spot #16. Scored a couple over head waves on the way outside Canoes, they were really mushy but still fun to catch. Then I moved to the inside and actually got a couple of little head dips. I can't remember the last time I got some head dips at Canoes. All in all it was a fun day to check off spot #15

Love your videos! Gets me motivated every time I see em! Used to love going to rockpiles. However, I think my favorites were Pops, Paradise, and Kaisers, with Pops being my go-to since it was always the least amount of people.

Great vid! How did you ride the sushi, I have both boards as well but I can’t seem to switch to shortboard quite yet. Any tips for progressing?
Thank You 🙏🏾 I’ve been surfing for 40 years so that probably helped me be able to surf the Sushi. My tip would be to just focus on riding the Sushi and take it out every session for a while. Even after 40 years of surfing when I switch from longer boards to small boards there is an adjustment period. I’m constantly complaining in my vids about feeling really rusty on my regular shortboards because I’m switching boards so much. Also I weigh around 200lbs and I think that’s the upper limit to what that board can handle so if you weigh more than me I’d probably stick to the Gerry. Hope that helps 🤙🏾

Such a fun spot, when ut has enough size you can bounce back and forth from baby haleiwa and bomburas. Was one of my go to spots when I was xorking on the cruise ship...vould get a few hours in easy riding my bike down from Aloha tower. Also surfed right those two spots the day before Iniki... never knew town could get that good. About Dbl overhead on the peak and not a drop of water out of place...seriously so glassy that the wave looked almost fake comong at you. Love the channel🤙🏼
