      You say same brass does that mean the small pistol primer or the large pistol primer brass? Large primer brass tend to start pushing primers at lower pressures than the small primer brass.

    • @mikerobinson8734
      @mikerobinson8734 Před rokem +1

      @@RadDadisRad Yes the same brass. They don’t make a 10mm case in small pistol primers. Only large pistol so I have no clue where you get that information.
      I run large pistol magnum primers in my handloads as they are above max pressure.

      @RadDadisRad Před rokem +1

      @@mikerobinson8734 they do make small pistol primer 10mm. The more you know.
      Let me amend this. BB hasn’t used small pistol primer brass in years for 10mm but they have used it and many other manufacturers use small primer brass because they don’t push primers as easily as large primer brass.

      @mikerobinson8734 Před rokem +1

      @@RadDadisRad I’ve never seen small pistol primer 10mm brass and even if they do the cartridge was never designed for it so why?
      I said I used the same brass as Buffalo bore 10mm starline large pistol primer brass.
      Same bullets in the 200 grn wfn and the 220grn. RimRock bullet co.
      I run a full support KKM barrel with a compensator to slow slide speed down with stock recoil spring.
      My loads are exactly the same as Buffalo bore with exception to the powder charge which I have worked up for my pistol.
      I average 1308fps with the 200grn that’s just over 750ft lbs energy.
      There is no published data for use in the 10mm with a small pistol primer case so I doubt your information is accurate. I have been loading for the 10mm for almost 20 years and have never come across it.

      If only ammo manufacturers would catch on and do the right thing and make all 10mm ammo PROPER 10mm ammo. Theres such an abundance of great 10mm guns out now, but theyre swimming in a sea of watered down ammo. And proper 10mm ammo is almost prohibitively expensive. Sig makes some good 10mm ammo too.

    Liberty, Grizzly & Fort Scott are my favs mostly due to local availability, but all are over 800 ft lbs.

    • @chrisdaniel1339
      @chrisdaniel1339 Před rokem +6

      I have serious doubts about 800 ft.lbs of ME for a actual bear defense load from any of the companies you mentioned. Underwood's hottest load is 155 gr FMJ at 1,500 fps and 775 ft.lbs ME, this is NOT a bear defense load, actual bear defense loads such as the 220 gr hard cast or 140 gr xtreme penetrators produce 704 and 700 ft.lbs respectively. Buffalo Bore's hottest rounds for bears are 220gr hard cast at 1,200fps and 703 ft.lbs or the 190 gr mono metal at 1,200fps and 607 ft.lbs of ME. Shooting a Liberty 60 gr bullet at 2400 and producing 780 ft.lbs IS NOT A BEAR LOAD. None of Grizzley's 10mm loads produce over 800ft.lbs and Fort Scott's 125gr solid copper moving at 1,611 fps produces a calculated 720 ft.lbs. Maybe with handloads you could get just over 800 ft.lbs in a true bear load.

    • @MichaelKMorris
      @MichaelKMorris Před rokem +1

      @chrisdaniel1339 well, I didn't mention bear loads, just factory.
      I have chronographed Liberty out of a 6" barrel at 2585 fps average, 60 grains comes out to 891 ft lbs. The same out of a cmmg 10" barrel hits 1005 ft lbs. So factory 10mm can easily exceed 357 mag loads all day long.

    Big advantage of a 10mm handgun over a shotgun or rifle is ease of deployment. A shotgun slung over one’s shoulder or in a pack is slower to deploy then a handgun on your chest. You only have several seconds to react to most life threatening situations.

    I like Underwood's 10mm Auto 220 Gr FN HCL and 200 Gr FN HCL more than Buffalo Bore's 220 Gr FN HCL. Mainly because the accuracy, speed, and power are so close, but Underwood costs a lot less. I've heard and read that Underwood's FN HCL bullets have higher brinell hardness than Buffalo Bore's - I'd love to be able to verify this.
    Since June 2022, I've run all three of these loads in my S&W M&P 10mm M2.0 4.6" pistol with no issues of any kind... flawless operation. I'm running it with a 24# RSA and longer stronger 11-coil magazine springs. I also always clean and properly lubricate my guns before and after each use - Basic Gun Ownership 101.
    - BB 20 x 220 Gr FN HCL
    - UA 100 x 220 Gr FN HCL
    - UA 80 x 200 Gr FN HCL
    Of these three loads, I've found the UA 200 Gr load to be the most accurate out of my pistol at 25 yards. It also has slightly less recoil than the other two 220 Gr loads, as expected.
    Good things! 👍

    Underwood should have learned from the fallout the happened with DT when their loads chronographed significantly under advertised velocity, Underwood had everybody loving their ammo because it did chrono out well above advertised and was hot compared to most major ammo manufactures. What a way to piss off shooters/hunters that were loyal to the Underwood brand.

    Hey Chuke......... wmtelle here. I have enjoyed every video. Very interesting and informative. And accurate. No BS here. Just a couple comments. You talk frequently about the Glock 20. But no mention of the 6-inch Glock 40. I have found a 50 to 80 fps gain in velocity with the same ammo in the Glock 40. Also you have made no mention of shooting 40 S&W in a 10MM. No manufacturer recommends this, however it is a fairly common practice. It makes for more practice because of the cheaper ammo of the 40S&W .One final thought. When I was a young buck, an old man told me that "shot placement is king, penetration is queen and everything else is just angels dancing on the head of a pin." This advice has served me well for over seven decades now. Be safe. Shoot straight...and often. wmtelle said that.

    Say, what's your thoughts on big bore AR's for bear/moose defense? Being a newly wed couple up here in a small cabin, our budget is pretty minimal, and having an AR-15 already, I've been considering a Bear Creek Arsenal .50 Beowulf upper that I can snag for less then three hundred dollars. That or SBR Ammunitions .375 SOCOM upper for big-ish bore energy with higher velocities.

      I would shoot it and test out ammo with it first. I have one as well and was sad about the reviews. I have yet to have any issues. I’m 400 rounds in. I’ve used to 220 grain HSM bear loads. 220 grain Underwood hard cast. 220 grain buffalo bore. And it all functions flawlessly. I’ve used 125 grain sinterfire and that also runs flawlessly. All of the under loaded regular factory full metal jacket, including Remington, Winchester, blazer brass, blazer aluminum, aguila, etc.. i have yet to have any sort of malfunction. Mine is the 4.6 inch barrel with no thumb safety.

    If I’m using one of the penetrating rounds from Underwood, I’m going to choose the “defender” every time. Better wound channels and still ridiculous penetration. The “penetrator” is fine but not as good as the defender imo.
    Buffalo Bore 180 grain is the all around do it all round
    The best wound channel I’ve ever seen was from a
    Double Tap 125 grain SCHP at 1607 FPS out of the

    channel the size of this round.

    I'm still trying to figure our my 10mm ammo. All the reviews seem to be aimed at brown bears, understandably. But, my bears will be black. I'm interested in the solid copper fluted bullets that are small for caliber and fast… For example, Honey Badger 115 or Underwood Xtreme Hunter… Either seems good for deer, hogs, and carry self defense. NOT SURE IF THOSE ARE ADEQUATE FOR BLACK BEARS???? And I want to train with and carry the same rounds if I can find it in bulk for less than $0.80/round. I'm having trouble finding that, however. Maybe, I should go with a more traditional and cheaper 155 gr JHP???

    The 10mm eliminates the need for any other pistol and some rifles. The Glock 20 has carbine kits that make it a 16” bull pup
    The ammo selection is from 60-220 grain.
    Loads that will penetrate armor and loads that will drop a grizzly. What’s the point in 380, 9mm, 40, 357, 45 etc?
    If size is an issue get a Glock 29.
