This is the only concert I ever attended alone. I had two tickets, nobody else wanted to go with me. You can't imagine how many people regretted that....
My wife, at the time!! , had the chance of comp tickets from her work. She turned them down, I never forgave her for that mistake! Funnily enough she made bigger mistakes later which she was forgiven but not this one....

Willie's guitar solo @ 2:57 is the game-changer here, just masterful and Kristofferson backs off knowing that Willie is in charge, taking his song to a higher level. Willie hears sounds that others don't and has the gift of sharing those sounds through the guitar and his distinct phrasing. An awesome demonstration here for all of us who pick and sing and maybe write a bit. And KK is delighted to hear his song interpreted so well, transforming it really.

Willie Nelson's guitar playing is coarse, untrained, rough, and more brilliant than the work of anyone with a PhD in music or the most accomplished trained performers. It is a force of nature made even more wonderful played on that antique nylon string guitar. It is perfect.

I am an English teacher . I use this song to teach the Gerund (the verb/nouns ending in 'ing' - there are at least15 examples in this song.) But anyway one of the three or 4 great Kristofferson compositions -and the guitar playing around 3-4 mins is sublime.
Take a moment and listen. If you have ever loved a woman you will realize this is One of the greatest songs ever written.
What it takes to be a legend. To be one with his old, scrapped, injured guitar, to be one thing with her, to make his ageless voice the perfect company for her. Just that.
I have been listening and watching Willie for many years and still to this day I am 70 and I still melt when he starts to sing. Damn, I love that man.

Here's another one of the long-standing greatest artists of our time! Willie Nelson was a superb song-writer and musician. Few can compare with that kind of success today! Listening to this number of Willie's is easy, soothing and relaxing, probably the easiest feeling I'll have all day long today!
(Kris Kristofferson is a great songwriter (he wrote this song) and singer in his own right, so nice to see and hear them working together!) Willie is about 87 now, and STILL touring, still at it, bless him for giving us so many years of pleasure!

I agree with your comment. I am only 17 but as my dad was at this concert i have been able to see it many times on video and this has got to be the best performance of that night. Willie's solo is amazing and your right when saying that the sound is unique. it's a shame that Johnny and Waylon are no longer around because The Highwaymen are arguably the best group to have ever lived

Ya forgot a few. Don Williams, Patsy Cline, well, there are too many to name. But I agree. Without autotune, light shows, monster bands many of today's "artists" would be lost. Even today though we have Chris Stapleton, not only a great singer but a guitarist right up there with Willie. And they SAY Randy Travis is improving by leaps and bounds. But like you I miss the days when EVERY performer had to actually be worth his salt. Too many now aren't.

How wonderful to see his guitar in all it's glory. You could spend a fortune and still your guitar would never sound as raw and as exquisite as this instrument does. I'll bet that it has many a story etched into the scarred, scratched and gouged marks that are the honest beauty of this gorgeous piece of history. Of course anyone else just couldn't make it sing like Willie did. Thanks for posting this video. Just lovely.
On an autumn morning in Bowling Green Kentucky I was having breakfast at the Holiday Inn. I was working for a one hit wonder called Starbuck. I sat looking out at the morning unfold when a voice asked, "Can I join you?" I said sure thinking it was one of the Starbuck crew or band. Willie Nelson sat down and we had breakfast. What a super great human!
