- Fix Desktop Overscaling If you Use a TV as Monitor
If you use a TV as a monitor or you want to display your computer screen on your TV you will run into an overscale issue where your desktop display will not fit the screen correctly, this is called overscaling. This is a very common issue which can be fixed either in your TV settings or via your graphics card settings. So if you're using Nvidia or AMD it can be changed. I will show you how to change this setting in Nvidia Control Panel. Adjust Screen and Position, Resize, Screen Resolution

Still helping people out years later. Proves how well put together this video was. Clear and concise.
hleped me out today i finnaly got rid of the annoying problem thanks to this video 😀
Vyno dude yes. 100%
Been dealing with this for over a year lmao
I've lived with that problem for lke over a decade now.. I never knew there was a way to fix this issue.. I feel sooo relived now that i dont need to constantly resize every task myself xd
Thanks for watching
Intel Graphic settings, Display, Customize Aspect Ratio. Then moved both bars on the preview (down & left). Apply. Adjust as needed. GL
Legend! Thanks!
but it looks horrible like that!
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!
you saved my life. Thank you
I dont have customize aspect ratio there
6 years later and this video still comes to the rescue! Thanks a million
6 years later and still the only one that fixes the issue fast others say useless unhelpful things .. thanks
If you use AMD, you can just right click the desktop and go to the top where it says "AMD Radeon Settings" and adjust HDMI scaling from the display tab.
you are a legend my friend
@@AlexCobbXRP agreed
YOU ARE A LEGEND
thank you so much!!! I got so frustrated with my TV. Your method is the only one that worked for me
I have had this problem for over a year and your comment just fixed it thanks
It's been 3 years since this video was uploaded, and it's still helpful as hell. Thank you, my tv/monitor is driving me crazy sometimes
OMG same here, about to throw my mouse at something and then I found this video.
Sadly the options aren't avaible in my nvidia
update ?
@@lucasmedon2095 Did some kind of calibration on my monitor (with the buttons on it) and it aligned
still useful 3-31-22
TV's also have a menu item - it may have different names for example: pixel by pixel, just scan, or overscan - set the TV to accept the output of the GPU if you have that option. For example on my 4K TV it is called 'Just scan'. Once that is set go to your control panel and setscaling mode to full screen and then 'perform scaling on' to GPU and set it to the pixel size and refresh rate of your TV.
helped me a lot thanks!
thank for your comment, very usefull to me
thanks so much. my laptop did not have nvidia but i was able to adjust with my smart tv like you said.
@@keygen6588 Glad you got it sorted out.
Thank you very much.
Very easy
6 years later and this video is still a life saver!! I have a big semi boxy Television and I had to resize it to 1824 x 1026 which is such an obscure size that I would've never been able to get it right otherwise!! Thank you so much!!!
I've been tinkering with electronics for half my life and I was stuck on this of all things... Thank you for the tip!
I just used the "fit to screen" function of my Samsung 4K tv under "picture size settings. Took about 7 seconds to do it.
@@parkerbohnn my guy most people dont have these nice tv's so they dont have settigns like this.
This is way more useful than 90% of the tutorial video on YT. Thank you.
I've been having my TV as an over scaled secondary monitor for at least 4 years now, but today you've changed my gaming experience forever. Thank you.
You're welcome! Glad I could help. Don't forget to hit the subscribe button. Thanks!
Thank you for making this so simple, I've been struggling for a week to work out what issue was and blind as a bat I never bothered to check that part of the control panel, this video has obviously helped countless people so props to you man
For those who dont see DISPLAY icon, you must right-click on desktop, choose Intel Graphic settings or Graphic settings and from there you can have access to your displays aspect ratio and resolution! Cheers!
Thank you that was so easy !!
Ingars Broks so what? :D there are no NVIDIA functions..
There are integrated graphics options, that will let you choose.
I'm in a perpetual catch-22 where I can't fix this issue. When I go to Nvidia, I only get 3D options. When I use the general windows display options, I can see both monitors (my laptop and the TV), but can't make any adjustments to fix the overscan on the TV. When I go to the Intel Graphics Control Panel's display options, it doesn't detect the TV for some reason - only the laptop's monitor- and I'm therefore not able to adjust the output settings to the TV.
Ingars Broks I changed the screen size and now my tv is saying invalid format. I can’t see anything to change it as my pc screen is broken
dude you're great, i wish all tutorials in the world were explained like this, clear and concise.
6 years ago still helping folks around the world. Thank you!
Five years old and this video solved a major conundrum for me. My cats knocked over my newer TV that I was using and I had to bust out the old one, the overscaling was driving me bonkers. Many thanks from across the pond.
A real life saver, I've probably used this video three times this year, cause my screen keeps resetting.
It's now 2019 and this video just saved my brand new monitor. I appreciate you sir.
I watched you 3 years ago and here I am again. Thanks, Choom
6 years ago and ur still a hero till this day
YES THIS ACTUALLY FIXED IT THANK YOU BRITISH MAN
WeedWizard Brando It sounds like Graham from Doctor Who
Man... this was so helpful, clear, quick and easy. Fixed my issue with your video still playing, and was finished before your video ended. This is literally one of the best tech-help videos I've ever seen. I honestly didn't realize I could feel this way about a tech-help video... Alright, I might be going a little overboard, but great video dude. Thanks!
5 years later and still the most helpful video on youtube
This gets my vote for greatest CZcams video ever. Thanks mate
If you have a smart TV, go to pictures then picture size. Once in select screenfit and whabam, no adjustments needed.
thank you I finally fix this issue.
muratcan yeldan if you ever encounter the screen glitching from 1080 to lower res, replug the hdmi cable to reset connectivity. some game launchers tend to mess with the compatibility.
Anyway, glad to help.
@@HungPham-qq6me Thanks. Problem solved!!!

Todays date is Tuesday 9th of January, 2024 and can't believe this video is 6 years old and still helping a lot of people out, dropped a like (I don't usually like videos as well 😅) - Thank you very much for the help
Same, still to this day this video saves old TVs from getting smashed!
2023, and I need information like this. So I came here. Cheers. Brian.
Thanks so much man! You can right click ur desktop and go straight on the nvidia control panel :)
It may help others but with others.
This doesn't make sense for some people because they don't have NVIDIA panel
this is a joke. windows 7??? take this shit down idiot. nothing looks like you described anymore.
JJ U when i clicked right click it would pop up automatically but since i downloaded GeForce Experience i cant find it anywhere?
I was literally just able to fix my own monitor thanks to this tutorial... the options may not be the same anymore, and I dont even have Nvidia... but its not THAT hard to figure it out :/

Video is 4 years old yet worked like a charm thank you
This man just blessed me with the knowledge I needed 🙌🏻
Same here, I have an old monitor that is inherently super wide screen with bright colors that I love for some games but I was having the same issue here and I was surprised that this first video solved it in less than 30 seconds. Also, your avatar is pretty awesome looking :)
Thank you, my dude this actually helped a lot. I was searching everywhere and couldn't find anything.
Thank you! You saved me I thought I was completely screwed and I have classwork due tonight. ❤
This issue has been plaguing me for over a year & I finally found someone (you) who knew how to fix it!!!! Thank you soooooo much!
I found this method out myself years ago but forgot how after all these years. This is the best video explaining it.
Thank you very much, I was going nuts over this. I had exactly the same setup and I came on Nvidia resize option but didn't realize that I have to drag the cursor using the mouse, lol. Since the area was grayed out by default along with the lock sign I thought the setting has been locked.
OMG THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!!!!!
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCHHHHH
But, i have 1 question, when i start to run game, the game still overscale though, how can you fix it?
just change the resolution in-game unless it fits the screen
Man Is still helping after 6 Years thanks man this really helped 10/10
For anyone wondering if this still works on Windows 11 in 2023, it does and it saved me hours of searching around terrible tutorials that solved nothing. Good video!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!! 100% Better I've Been Fighting this for 2 Weeks Now
Thank you my dude I’m very poor and I just got a gaming desktop for my pc and we had to use a tv monitor thanks for solving my problems you earned yourself a like and a sub
You're welcome and thanks for the sub
6 years in the future and this still worked perfect! Thank you!
my roommate had been dealing with this issue for months and i couldnt find the scaling settings to help him. this video has helped a ton. thank you
The setting doesn't exist for me and it looks like there's nothing I can do. I have AMD. The scaling does not help adjust my screen to where the full picture fits. I also tweeked the picture settings of the TV itself and nothing works.
Hey. Download Radeon Software, go to screen, custom resolution, create new and change to CVT reduced
@@solidtoco6896 that didn’t work
@@solidtoco6896 did not help at all.
@@rockerscum It worked for me sorry.
Btw, i still have that issue when i change a game resolution, If you find a solution, please reply here
If non of these work then check if your tv has a VGA input. If it does then buy a Hdmi to VGA cable, or a USB C to VGA cable, depending on your laptop/computer. And plug it into the tv and your laptop/pc. Then change the input on your tv to PC mode. This works perfectly for me. Non of these videos or anything I googled mentioned this but IMO the TVs aren’t meant to view pc’s normally through hdmi. That’s why they build in the VGA input so the tv recognises your using a pc and adjusts the monitor correctly. Good luck!
omg thank you so much i was looking for this for hours!
Bruh same
Just bought a tv and thought I would have to return it. THANK YOU. Saved me a wasted trip.
thank you!
PSA: If your sliders are grayed out you need to go to your setting and change it from duplicate to only be on the tv that was how i fixed mine at least
You good sir are also a legend. Thank you.
but what about screen position ? i can now see the full screen but it's off center
Kjshaldj Dasldkhc did you ever find a fix?
same
It is due to your tv making it off center. You have to go in to your tv settings and change it.
Perfect! Exactly what I was after. Very easy and simple to follow. Thank you.
(NVIDIA vCard to LG TV).
legend. amazing how your video from years back is helping people today
This was a major pain in the butt, glad someone put out a video to help fix it. Thanks bud!
My settings doesn't have a "size" tab. It just has a scaling and position! Help!
did you found the fix? i dont have it neither
@@whomenyt6240 is it still broken
Me too and this lazy presenter hasn't given an answer to this he is only a noob on his own settings but not a tech Wiz on all vid settings. All this guy's done is read his own manual but it doesn't help if he has a different model.
I'm having the same issue I cant adjust the actual size of the display I can just move it so that a different part of the screen is overlapped
@@ben-zu4iq omg 2 weeks and no solution just more questions well at least I fixed mine so there. & stuff this sucked off presenter.
If you don't have NVIDIA control panel, then you should have Intel Graphics and Media. Click that and choose advance mode. Choose your Display in "Display" drop down menu. Then 2 bars should appear called horizontal and Vertical scaling. Customize them till they fit, but make sure to keep the original aspect ratio or it will look ugly! Hope this helped!
I just used the "fit to screen" function of my Samsung 4K tv under "picture size settings. Took about 7 seconds to do it.
I knew this anyway from back in the day, but I was so furious that I could not think straight. So I came across this video and you solved my problem. Thank you very much!
Thanks mate 6years later still helping people thank you sir 🙏
You're a lifesaver, my taskbar was 1 millimeter too low.
When I click the resize button, it won’t let me move both the height and the width bar. Why is this happening?
you have to actually drag the button on the bar, the + and - only indicate direction, not buttons themselves.
haydenward082 Well it doesn’t matter now because I bought a new tv and I didn’t have to do any adjusting to make my pc screen display properly. I’m guessing the issue had to do with the fact that my previous tv is over 10 years old and my laptop is under 2 years old.
After so many articles and fruitless forums you just fixed my year-lasting problem in 2 minutes
Thank you very much, fair sir
I have to revisit this video every couple of months and it's a godsend
OMG THIS VID WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL, I had literally no idea what was happening and was so grateful to see this vid, thank you so much
A brilliant tutorial, easy to follow not like others. Liked and subscribed
I just found this video today and it fixed an issue where i was running 3840x2160 on my tv and suddenly it stopped going corner to corner this helped me fix that issue and now it's all good used the menu to put it to full screen and it's great.
i know you posted this three years ago just had this problem and it worked love ya fam
HELP IM ON THE NIVIDIA CONTROL PANEL BUT THE LEFT SIDE ONLY SHOWS 3D SETTINGS AND I CANT PRESS THE DISPLAY BUTTON
teknn0 I'm having the same problem too. Found a fix?
check my comment, i found solution.
where is it?
cant find it
WHY ARE YOU TYPING LIKE THIS?
It's because you probably use a laptop and an integrated (maybe intel) video card for displaying. You should just right click on the desktop and open Intel's Graphic settings.
This is quite a useful tip, thank you so much, one question, I want to use my TV as a secondary monitor, so I am going to put in on my wall above my current monitor, my question is will I be able to fix the scaling on the TV without affecting the current scaling on my current monitor, so I can have a dual monitor setup?
Did u find a solution

make sure you have any other displays turned disconnected, and the TV is the only one
It's 2021 and I have been struggling with this one! I bought new cables for me to solve the problem but it did not solve the problem. so I searched on youtube and luckily I found this! this really solved my problem! thank you!
I was just in nvidia control panel looking for that option to change the size but I just didn’t see it lol but I found it when I watched you. Thanks I’ll try to remember this from now on
When I do this the resolution is very unsharp... how to fix this? I can't even read :(
mee too , like low resolution but just upscaled ....
set resolution on the comp to recommended then set your television to native, or some have fit to screen....your tv should have 4:3,16:9, theatre wide etc..... it's not a computer issue in the most case as long as you set the comp to what it recommends while hooked to tv.
Thank you sir!!!
thanks dude
You're the MAN!
I would suspect that 99.99% of 'people' DO NOT have "NVIDIA" on their computer... and why would they. I get stumped by this issue at least once a year. I'm perplexed when it happens because 'out of nowhere' it just happens. I've tried everything (Display Settings (right-click on desktop), Advanced Display Settings, Graphics Options / Properties, etc and all seems to be "normal". I also tried F'ing w/ the TV Display Options and 'they' too seem correct) and for now I can NOT correct this issue :(.
((NOTE: 12/12/19 -
Per Microsoft requirements, the NVIDIA Control Panel is no longer included in the driver package and is instead distributed exclusively through the Microsoft Store and seamlessly installed following the completion of the NVIDIA driver installation.))
Sym Cardnel have you found a fix for it?
I found solutiuon on TV remote aspect ratio button, just choose "Just scan" aspect ratio option
4 years later still works like a charm
Like many here, I've lived with this issue for a long time. Thanks to you, I can now see the minimize and maximize buttons.
Screen resolution problem is solved but graphics quality is too bad.
pradeep dhal I’m saying even the color looks whack
What if you don’t have any graphics card and are using a home desktop. Pls help this is pissing me off
every computer has a graphics card otherwise you wouldn't see anything at all.
it has a graphics chip then, not a graphics card
Thank you for this sir.
I applied the "uninstall Nvidia Driver Solution" and restarted my PC. But the solution that worked on my PC is that I clicked a light blue text saying "turn off bla bla" right under a red text saying "A custom scaling has been set".
THANK YOU!!!! This has been driving me crazy! I've been gaming with DSR upscale and it would push all my opened window off my 2nd monitor, this just fixed that.
