  • HOW RIG WELDERS GET PAID (CONTRACT VS. SPLIT CHECK)
Pipeline welder pay can sound confusing if you have never worked in it before. An annual pipeline welder salary is made up of hourly arm pay, truck pay and per diem. A pipeline welder income isn’t all taxed the same either. So when you are asking how much do pipeliners make it’s important to know the different ways to get paid and what it all means.
I’m Austin Ross a pipeline welder and this channel is for new, future and seasoned pipeliner and rig welder. I’m often asked about rig welder salary and pipeline rig welder salary so today I wanted to do the setup for that future video and explain the ins and outs of how you can get paid. It’s different if you are on a contract rig welder jobs vs being a nonunion or union welder. I would prefer to talk about expenses over a union pipeline welder salary but if you need those answers let me know and I’ll make a future video about them. Whatever you do don’t get distracted by pipeline money without knowing the full story. Here’s a jumpstart for that conversation.

nice video and lots of info - here is my take away and question as a contractor straight pay - arm - $50/hr, rig $15/hr, $65 - hr total - deduct helper rates - (estimate -$20/hr) , business cost per hour using 60 hr weeks equipment costs - rig , truck, ins, fuel -$8 (using $1400/mo ) , taxes - $5 - take home - =65-20-13=$32*240 (4 weeks 60 avg wk) = $7500/month ($2k/wk welder helper $1200/wk) - i am not taking into account PD because too many variables for this calculation... - does this seem the correct math - roughly -

I'm in a completely different profession where I'm a Forman I'll have a chance to become the boss if I stay in it because it's a family business. I said all that to say this I love the idea of being my own boss it's great you get to make your own schedule. But it also sucks when your doing a job that takes 3 weeks and you have to pay fuel and your guys the whole time before you get your check. It's a whole lot nicer to get off on Friday with a check in your hand and go home and not worry about what your going to do if a machine or truck breaks down Monday morning but it's also nice to have an opportunity to make a huge amount of money if you grind and put in the hours. That's just my opinion on it

AnthonyLA 310 unions are the way to go regardless of age. Getting in the Union, especially a union as strong as the UA, while you're young and staying for 30, 35, even 40 years provides one hell of a pension and medical care for retirement. If you are lucky and or persistent enough to get into one of the building trades unions you should stay until the day you retire. Nothing says you have to stay as an hourly worker, you could become a union contractor and do your own thing that way. Either way union is the way to go.
